At the end of the day, people are more like to come to forums to complain about problems than praise a device that has none :)

At least the RMBP doesn't have a "your not holding it right" problem :p

or the internet is full of people making 1 dead pixel out of 5,000,000 into, the biggest tragedy in apple history!!!

Now thats more likely, especially here, if they actual even own one :p

As the individual you must filter the content of the internet very carefully; everyone is a "Pro", everyone is the "Expert", for the most part they are neither, a few are well informed, the vast majority are not. If you need help to make a significant purchase, or qualification on hardware, wait for a recognised source, not the kid with 10 minutes hands on in Best Buy ;)

If you want to help Apple to improve the next retina versions then get it now! :D

Some or most rMBP owners want you to be in the same boat, especially those who have spent blindly $3000+. If ML breaks its promises, they don't want to be the only ones who would feel guilty for having taken the wrong decision...

Once again, if you are an rMBP prospective buyer, wait until ML is released.

I agree. I tend to listen more to my friends that have devices before the internet. Sadly, this thing is so hard to get ahold of, I don't know anyone that has one! I have a few friends that have one on order, like me, but that is all. I have never had a bad apple product, and all the reviews have been quite positive...so I'm not worried.

By the time next year's update rolls along, something even better will be on the horizon. If you keep waiting for something better you'll never get anything.

You have little to worry about, "stick to your guns" and dont be dragged into the vortex as it`s mostly nonsense driven by the "crowd". Those that have specific reasons will announce with accuracy and clarity, aiding your understanding to make an informed decision, the rest is simply "white noise" after playing around in the shop for a short interval, with little or no real experience of the systems.

The Retina, like it or not is not only pushing technology barriers, it`s also pushing pricing this undoubtedly excludes some. Back in 06/07 the MBP was a niche product for aimed at the "profesional" and the price point considered a necessity to get the job done. Spin forwards to 2012 the MBP is more a "prosumer" product and the price point is bound to be a barrier to some, naturally this can and will generate a level of animosity towards Apple, and as ever the "crowd" want more for less, and they are welcome to it. They only need to visit one of the major PC brands and they will be more than happily oblige ;)

Well, there is always the 2.7/16/798 for the crowd dead set on spending as much as humanly possible.

I think the 2.6/16/512 model will perfectly suit my needs. The only downgrade for me is the GPU (I currently have the HD5870 in my Mac Pro) but I don't think it will be too much of a problem. If it is, I will just build a linux box as a complimentary at home device.

Hi I'm deciding wether I should cancel my RMBP base model with 16GB ram order and wait till the next generation are released e.g. will the next gen base RMBP have a significantly faster CPU and GPU and more SSD storage. Also around what month next year will apple release the new one, what do you think I should do?

I'd wait until 2016, that model is support to have the new OS (Jaguar) not to mention the built in microwave and 8k res. projector.

seriously? you must be selectively reading then. the rmbp is FULL of quirks which is expected for a first gen machine i suppose.

The quirks in question are minor issues mostly, with a few semi-serious software bugs tossed in. Which is pretty good for online Apple communities that overplay every potential flaw in any new device (Antennagate? Glassgate? Yellowgate?)

Next year's model will be a marginally improvement in both CPU and GPU. It will not be significantly faster. If you want a noticeable improvement from this generation, wait 2-3 more years. I'm being serious.

As i understand it gets much better then Lion so...

From using it since the gm was released, safari is definately smoother but the UI issues I mentioned above are not resolved yet. I'm guessing the .1 revision will clear it all up.

When one asks a question like that on an Apple forum, you see what you get. Loads of overly sensitive people posting completely irrelevant drivel.

Those who have experience & are not afraid to be honest, will usually suggest you wait for the second generation if you can. That's the one that'll have the bugs sorted out.

It's not a negative reflection on Apple, just a fact of life. Until a new model is in the hands of the public, it's hard for any manufacturer to discover how it will perform in the field.

Exactly. I don't remember the last time Apple released a product with so many problems (some big, some small). They clearly rushed the rMBP to market despite the lag issues that they surely knew about.

Some of the other PC manufacturers have become more aggressive on pricing the last few years as well. Pricing actually went up slightly with the introduction of the unibody macs. Anyway as always with Apple or any other company, they're introducing it on a machine with a high minimum sale. These features will trickle down to the others. The 13" macbook pro is still around. I expect they'll do something interesting with it within the next two cycles. We should see more 35W quad cpus, so that's a possibility. A display update of some kind should happen, even if it doesn't adopt the resolution characteristics of the rMBP. I don't think they'd bump the resolution quite that high unless intel's HD graphics improve immensely. They can technically support such a resolution, but framerates and driver tuning become a factor that may be partially solved in a cycle or two.

That's why I avoid being a test subject. I've found it easier to just wait for a product to stabilize before buying in.

If it is, I will just build a linux box as a complimentary at home device.

I like Linux, but sometimes their gpu drivers can be a little weird. A lot of software is certified under Fedora, so it's possible that Quadro drivers are a little better there. I'm just not sure.

I would say my MacBook is still much powerful so its kinda "DDDAAAAMMMMMNNNN" Feeling you get when you see the UI issues but i still love my RMBP :D

If they can moniterize the performance difference the 2.7 offers it`s fair enough, some just want the biggest numbers on offer. For me the 2.3 is presently the better option. i did consider the 2.6 long and hard as in general i opt for the high tier MBP, bottom line is I will upgrade to Haswell and the 2.6 in this respect will only depreciate more, the 2.3 base should offer the best return on the $ over the next 12-18 months, performance wise these machines are so strong out performing Mac Pro`s from just a few years back that it`s simply a non issue.
