funny because my nexus 7 had touch responsiveness issues

I'm obviously an Apple guy or I wouldn't be here but the Nexus 7 2013 is a fantastic device. Wonderful display and very fast. If I had a need for a smaller tablet I'd consider it over the RMini.

Did you performed the Marco IR test ?

I ran it for a while (but not ten minutes), had zero IR. It's only crashed once too after days of heavy usage. It's definitely a keeper. :p

... Never had a crash so far, after more than one month. :)
Seem pretty solid.

Happy to report that I finally got a keeper; week 51. I decided to downgrade to 32GB though so I'm sorry to be of little help to my 64GB brethren out there.

Also wanted to point out that it's a Pegatron-Protek built F4KL model. All my previous models were Foxconn. Don't want to jump to any conclusions but it appears like Foxconn dropped the ball on this one.

Hope this helps. GL to those of you who are still hunting.

I know I'm reviving a thread that hasn't been touched in a month, but I thought I would add my own experience with the ghosting problem on the Retina iPad mini.

My dad bought one today and brought it to me to set up and test it. Basically, I use it for a week or two to make sure all is good since I know what issues to look for and how to fix them. I opened the box up, all excited because this is the first Retina iPad I have ever used outside an Apple Store or Best Buy (I went from the iPad 1, to the 2, to the original Mini) and thought the screen was amazing.

A few hours later, I left the iPad on the home screen for about a minute and a half since I was using my MBP to look something up. I hop into Safari on the iPad and I could see the home screen on the Safari webpage. I'm not talking just seeing the shapes of the icons, no, I could make out 70% of the details on the Newsstand app. It was bad. So I ran the image retention test and it came back pretty bad. I could see the check board pretty decently for ~45 seconds-1 minute. It started fading out, but it took a good 3 minutes before it was completely gone. I then went back to the home screen and I could see the Safari search bar. :/

Still debating if he should return/exchange it at Walmart (where he bought it) or go to Apple for a replacement.

By the way, its a Space Gray 16GB Retina mini for Verizon manufactured in Jan 2014 by Foxconn (I believe).

I have a 32 gig rmini verizon that failed the marco test..i will be keeping it and i may use the ir problem to my advantage later on. Other than the ir the display looks fine. It has a bright,,even white color...no dead pixels..no yellow or book spine..and very minimal backlite bleed ...and because of the ir problem i have the option of exchanging it at the apple store or online for a brand new or refurbished rmini...i may swap it out but only at the very end of my 1 year warranty..then i will craigslist the new sealed rmini with xtra the 90 day warranty we get with an exchanged unit. Should get top dollar. I will only swap it out tho if the mini 3 has a 100% color gamut...otherwise i will keep the one with ir cuz it has a great display and i dont wanna risk gettin a yellow monster. i never even notice the ir.

Well if the proble is so strong you can see the home screen on Safari for almost 3 minutes, it worths a return.

Yeah, it went back. My dad went ahead and ordered another one, this time the model he wanted. Hopefully this one won't have the same issue.

The problem you described is obviously a defect, not the classic "by-built" image retention phenomenon that is far less obvious and that you can usually not notice in real life use.

I hate to wake this sleeping dog. But has anyone ever actually ever noticed IR in normal use or was this a case of MacRumor forum hysteria?

The only time i've ever noticed IR on mine is when I leave a checkerboard on there for longer than is reasonable.

Normal MR stuff.

So is this still a common problem? I wanna buy a rtmini from the refurb store reason why i ask is cause I live in Bolivia and there's no apple stores and no way of returning the mini.

Same for me, after 5 monthes use...
IR is a built limitation of one of the screen type used in the rMini (also exists on the iPad 4 and others). It's nearly unoticeable in real life usage.

Far less annoying than the uneven screen problem that exists on the rMini: one part of the screen (usually the bottom part) is yellowish, while the other is either white, blueish or even magenta.. !
