That's true. Hmm. Can't decide. I am starting to see IR in normal use though, which isn't a good thing. Will be going back soon, either for a replacement or an air. Blah. We've got an Air at work, that I can't find any yellowing with.

As I wrote:

According to this poll on iMore:

http://www.imore.com/do-you-see-imag...ipad-mini-poll

45% of rMini shows IR
I bet most are 64 and 128 LTE
On the remaining 55% with no IR, I bet a lot have the "Yellow" effect...

It seems, there is currently two type of screens for the rMini:

-one with "vibrant" and very uniform colors but subject to IR at various level.
-second without IR but subject at various level to yellowish/blueish/uneven tint accross the screen.

That the status now...

I've IR, at the same level that the iPad 4 of the family, but it's not disturbing/visible at all during real life use on either device. You've to test or search for it... and it's a bad idea ;-)

My advice would be if you've a good screen, do not test for IR if you don't see it during normal use, and enjoy your rMini

I wonder just what percentage of rminis have screen flaws. We hear about IR and other issues, but how many oeople bought one without any problems? I was thinking of getting a 32GB version for my Dad as a gift.

I have a 16 GB LTE rMini with no screen issues and bought 2 32 GB wifi rMinis on launch day as Christmas gifts for my niece and nephew and they had no apparent screen issues though they were not checked for IR or backlight bleeding. Just looked at them quickly and they had no unevenness or yellow tints. I think it would be a great gift for your Dad.

If you go looking for problems or have OCD you'll find them. I received my rMini today from Best Buy and I was more concerned with the crappy performance rather than if the Home button was properly aligned. A high majority of the iPads have few if any problems. :)

I love how you just think this is completely acceptable.

Picked up my rMini from the apple store. I didn't do the ir test but I'm ok with how everything is looking so far.

I have a 64gb LTE model with absolutely no screen issues. I exchanged a 64gb wifi only model for it also with no screen issues at all.

You missed everything I said didn't you? It's acceptable for ME. I've got other things on my plate to worry about rather than if the tint slides to a different color if I tilt the iPad a certain way or if I notice any IR. There isn't anything on my rMini, apart from crappy performance that makes me want to take it back. I'm sure if I went into a dark room testing for backlight bleed, IR, tinting issues, or overall fit and finish someone could point it out.

I have a Kindle Fire HD 1st gen that definitely has IR and I don't have a huge problem with it as it just goes away after a small period of time.

Received my iPad Retina Mini, and it has no IR or display issues. Even bright white display. No build issues either.

Can you give the details about your device ?

Definitely not entering my serial number into a random site with foreign writing. Sorry. Just know it has no issues. It's an LTE and it's 64GB. It replaced a wifi only 64GB model also with no issues and both were purchased at a local Best Buy in January. It has no yellow spotting or tint either. White is white as can be.

@PeterKG, @Semp1, @Miguel760: did you made the Marco IR test ?

If you don't, my advice is to not perform the test.

If you did, I'll be interested in the results.

Thank you

Maybe off topic but I have an Acer touch monitor for my Windows machine and it started having image retention and some other screen abnormalities. I sent it in for warranty repair and they said they replaced the touch screen module and it positively tested no IR or lines. Is the touch module the actual display or just part of it? I wonder if some of these minis have touch module defects. It seems to me that it was ruched to market and not thoroughly tested or Apple excepted the failure rate. Google's Nexus 7, which I owned for a while when I was on hiatus from Apple, was a wonderful device and had no IR.

rMini's still bad batch in Europe

I just got 2 iPad rMini's - both 128GB wifi only - here in Prague, Czech Republic. Both manufactured on the 51st week of 2013. I was surprised how different their screen was though:
1. made by Pegatron: very crisp and vibrant colors (warmer), but had a yellow backlight bleed near the home button and a blue bleed near the camera. No image retention.
2. made by Foxconn: kinda ugly, washed out, cold colors, with a faint purle line near the camera. While there was almost no backlight bleed, the screen had a strong image retention (displayed image for 1 minute retained for another 20 seconds).

Both iPads went straight back to the store - and I guess I'll wait couple more weeks before trying again.

I have been a happy Apple customer for 10+ years - and guess the old saying about not getting rev. A and rev. B of their products is true.

Anyone having more luck with the latest batches?

I just find it baffling how Apple is having all these issues when companies like Asus manufacture the 7" Nexus and it has a perfect display. They obviously did something wrong in engineering.

I have both rMini and Air.

The rMini (DLXL) doesnt have any image retention, but the Air (DMPLT) has image retention.

The Air also have uneven brightness with left side being darker.

And the color looks more saturated on the Air, which some reviewers say the color gamut is better on the Air than rMini. But when I compare rMini with my Iphone 4s, the color saturation is identical.

Just want to follow up on my post. I returned both rMini and Air 2 months ago. And I finally bought Air again.

This time the Air (DMPM) does not have image retention. The uneven brightness is very very mild compare the one I got before.:)

My rMini (32Gb WiFI) and iPad 2 both tested positive with IR and I've never ever noticed it during normal use. I'll be the first person to say there are issues with the new iPad Air and rMini but this isn't one of them.

Please move along there's nothing to see here.

+1

Same here... rMini (one month use) and iPad 4 (more than one year use), both tested with very similar IR... Never noticed it, unless searching or testing for it...

And we tested the iPad 4 for IR only 1 month ago, when the IR buzz started for the rMini... We were IR-ignorant till then and had nothing to complain about the superb display of the 4... So, just use your device...

funny because my nexus 7 had touch responsiveness issues
