I just setup 2 POE cameras and a dedicated little computer with 1 tb drive for a total of $1200. Been running for years without using up my internet bandwidth or subscription.

A "ProLine" doorbell... Pathetic! What are they going to flog next? A ProLine catflap for "professional" felines?
ProLine used to be a brand name here in the UK for cheap (downscale) kitchen appliances like kettles, microwaves &etc - I think we're only associating "ProXXXX" with "professional" due to Apple branding/marketing.

There's also a requirement nowadays for "international" brands to have no real meaning in any language to avoid naming a product/range as something with a derogatory or double-entendre type name in another language. My favourite example of this is "Bimbo" - sliced white bread brand popular in Spain. Bimbo is generally assigned a different meaning entirely in English.😂

It doesn't get good reviews on Amazon for the video quality and with 720p, I can understand why.

For $600, it should have 4K video like some of the Lorex cameras.

I mean, doesn't everybody already have PoE running to their doorbell?

Maybe it is more common in the Netherlands. ;)

In the US most traditional doorbells have 16-24 volt AC power to light the button and send a signal to the ringer. Most doorbell cameras use this power or a battery.

My $149 nest (black friday price) can do everything that can. But I guess the .0005% of the population that needs "end to end encryption" to see the pizza man at the door, might be interested.

I agree 100%. If camera manufacturers don't support HomeKit Secure Video en masse and drive the cost for the hardware down substantially, the technology isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The average consumer would rather spend $100 USD to be able to see what's happening outside their door vs. nearly $700 USD to ensure that no one else but them can see what's going on outside their front door.

The only downside is that if that computer is stolen or your house burns down, your recordings are gone.

Can't this be bought and run on a local cloud now that we have cheap TB storage for a lot less money?

If someone is doing this, can you share your setup.

The odds of that are more than unlikely. I save monthly by having the cheapest internet service ($50/mo vs $75) and no subscription ($3+ a month). The math works for me. Plus I get HD and can add cameras where and how I like them.

I pay the $3/mo for the Ring 30 day cloud storage. With how expensive this doorbell is, it’d take 12 years of subscriptions to equal how much more this costs over my Ring...

Uh...it says you have to pay monthly for iCloud storage to get the secure video.

Not for me it isn't. This is what I have been waiting for. I would much rather pay a price upfront and budget for it than have continual ongoing subscription fees. I HATE SUBSCRIPTIONS!

Sadly, that's one of the few doorbells that runs on POE; thus offering minimal delays.

I'm using an EZVIZ DB-1 right now which is also tried into my home automation system. It works great and the price is right. It also doesn't demand a cloud service subscription - something I'd never permit.

Just annoyed with the delays.

Macrumors - can y’all reach out to Netatmo to find out a release date on their doorbell. This is the one I’ve been waiting for but was supposed to be out last year....

Me too! The Netatmo is the one I've been waiting for. I already have a Presence and love the fact that I can sync the videos to my Dropbox account I already have without having to pay for yet another cloud subscription service. I like their device aesthetic too... clean and modern. C'mon Netatmo, release this sucker already!

Edit: I'd also love it if they made a version of their indoor camera that wasn't pinkish gold.

Yep. For Homekit Secure Video, you need at least the $3/200GB plan, or the $10/2TB plan if you want to use more than one camera. Of course you can use the storage for other things than just the video, so that may offset the cost at least partially.

You can get a Eufy doorbell cam for $120 right now on Amazon. It has 2K video and local storage so there is no subscription. The only downside is the Eufy doorbell cam is not currently homekit compatible. I was excited to read the headline on this story because I am wanting to replace my Ring doorbell with something Homekit Secure Video compatible but $664 USD (based on today's exchange rate) is a complete non-starter for me.
