Lets say you have two phones on two different contracts with Rogers. Do you have to pay their System Access Fees twice?
Also what other kinds of discounts are there?
Im sorry im just a student trying to save as much money as possible on my future iPhone! :D

I ordered my Black 16 gb today, the guys said there were no black left only white. They are expecting black ones soon and I should get a confirmation by e-mail soon since I called. I took the My5 25, 6gb package and 15$ Visual Voicemail package.

Ordered mine Friday, received it yesterday. Especially nice since I was told it would take 3-5 business days and it only took 2.
got mine today ordered last Sat ;) to all new customers, beware of who you deal with over the phone, Ive had to wrangle a few sales people just to get what was promised to me :p Its not hard for a faceless person to say "there is no such option" over the phone.

That's pretty vague. What did you have to say to get what you got, which was what?

Most corporate plans include a bunch of network features, so I would replace that VVM pack with just VVM $8.

What can I expect, walked into Rogers store today to get some answers ...

With my corporate $25 plan ....

16GB would cost me $350 to start
$25 for my voiceplan which already includes free voicemail and call display
$30 for the 6GB dataplan
$15 for the Visual Voicemail pack.
$7 extra for evenings after 6pm, with the $30 data plan, you cant get the $20VVM plan
6.95 Rip Off fee
0.50 911 Fee

Total of 84.85 a month! Ridiculous.

Could someone explain why having the GPS using the satellite would cut into my data usage. I know that the iphone uses A-GPS. But if I was connected directly to the sat, why is the data plan being used?

simply put (now that its written in stone), when I ordered I was given an option that cost considerably less than the norm.
then when I called in my SIM card, they told me something totally different. I told them that I will have to exercise the "this call is monitored and recorded..." part of my first conversation with the original sales person. well they changed their tune and basically told me that the first option did exist for me. sounds shady doesnt it :p

it went from:
$45 (existing plan of 350..)
down to:
$10 (250min...)
back up to:
$27 (250min...)
then after the struggle:
$10 (250min...)
but, it should be $17 (the second sales person states) for the 250min plan.
but she is honouring the first sales persons $10 option.

I found that to be odd and rather confusing :p

btw, this baby ROCKS!!!

Any GPS needs to know where the satellites are. A regular GPS downloads and stores satellite locations from the satellites and stores them in a table, but if you turn the GPS off and move to a new location, it takes a long time (a minute or two) to update the table.

Assisted GPS downloads satellite location tables using data connections, and also has a fallback to cell tower/WiFi triangulation.

The benefit is near instant GPS, plus general location capability where there is no satellite signal.

So, if using GPS requires data, and the data plans are only for your "local" area without incurring those scary data rates , does this mean that you cannot economically use the GPS for any long roadtrips [when you would really benefit from GPS], but rather only for local drives?

So I went to a Rogers to get the iphone they told me I could not have one since my contract still has 5 months left on it, I was like ok what do I have to do to get one.

So the guy tells me to call Rogers and buy out my contract which will cost me $100, I;m like ok, let's do that, then he tells me if I cancel my contract and then get another contract, they will just give me my old contract back, and I wil not get the iphone. Has anyone ever heard of anything like that before?

This company has the poorest customer service I have ever seen.

Please someone give them some competition, they will smarten up, very fast.

^ amazing.. some of these reps are pulling "information" out of their a$$es.

If you buy out the contract, that contract is terminated. You can get a new one without the old one haunting you. You paid for that right.

When a Rogers rep starts talking bull and making stuff up like that, I politely hang up, call back and speak to a new rep.

This is bull! I had 16 months left on mine. All you need is to be eligible for a hardware upgrade (which thankfully I was). I say call up retentions and talk to a rep. Tell them you want to cancel (since that's what the tard told you to do) and they'll be jumping thru hoops. Or at least let you upgrade to the iPhone. That's what I did and I got a voice plan better than any similarly priced one out now.

I called Rogers up... just to clear thing out and to see how much it would cost me each month.. blah blah blah... They said I can't get it for $299 it would be 449 or something.... Then they say I must get a voice plan for $30. I have no idea if they are telling the truth.. but either way... I won't be getting an iPhone
it is just wayy too much money to spend each month.... I hope lots of people refuse to get one and Rogers will have to do something about their major rip off pricing.

You don't have to get a $30 voice plan. You can keep your current plan. And the cost based on hardware upgrade is determined by the amount of money you spend each month (currently). It's pretty ********, but that's the way it goes. My motorolla L6 is pretty much worthless at this point, but they still claim they're recovering the cost of the principle every month...sure...

Rogers is really starting to piss me off. I called them last week and ordered the iPhone and it had been more than a week and I still had not received an e-mail saying my order was shipped. Today, I called them up and they informed me that my order was not processed and I had to place another order because they had given away my phone and I had lost all priority, so I got transfered again only to be told I would have to call back at the end of the week or next week to place another order cause they don't have anymore phones on stock. Boo Apple for launching a product and not beeing ready and boo Rogers for the bad service. Now I might have to wait up to a month before I get my iPhone because of the non-existant stock, and they want to introduce the phone in other countries soon? Why don't they take care of the current countries who offer the phone right now?

I made the same phone call and got the same answer, Rogers Sucks Ass, and apple sucks for not selling the iphone at the apple store in Canada, it's obvious rogers can't handle the load on their own.

Yeah so I called back today and talked to the guy about the situation and he went into my old order that THEY cancelled yesterday and he told me that apparently the order was put in yesterday (even if I placed it a week and a half ago) and cancelled by the costumer (even if he told me he had to cancel the order and shipped me back to the sales department where they offered me another phone). Believe me he found that weird also. He told me he could put in a pending order and when they would get the next shipment I would get priority. Today's guy was great help compared to yesterday, he even said that he changed my Data Plan because of some reason the guy had put in the 400 mhz plan instead of the 6GB plan at the same price (it was probably changed yesterday during the order cancellation cause I remember saying to the guy when I called 1 week and a half ago that I wanted the 6GB plan). So now my order is pending and should get it in about 2 weeks if everything goes well. I will just make sure to get english service next time cause I find it alot faster to get a rep and they are more knowledgable of their stuff compared to the french guys.

D3nZ, sorry to hear about your situation. I'd be right pissed if that happened to me. One of the users in these forums said that he had to tell them to listen to the recorded conversation with the original CSR when they tried to change his plan from the one that was agreed upon. I wonder if somebody in your situation could do the same and get them to play nice that way. I mean, it might be a bit late for you (and I'm glad they actually fixed the situation in your case), but maybe somebody else going through this could use that to their advantage. It's total bull how Rogers treat their customers sometimes...
