Changed to PFS yesterday, I have a pending charge from apple on my credit card. Interestingly enough, it's not the full amount, just the tax. It doesn't include the monthly upgrade cost. UPS tracking is still not showing anything for my order and it's not in my support profile
Wel at least using my order number UPS shows arrive in Louisville KY now.

For me trekking to the closest store would be almost a half a day longWow 3?? The closest one to me is just over 2 hours away. Having one close by for launches is a plus but also just having one to go in and look at all the pretty (and new) merchandise
There are 10 Apple stores within 25 miles of me and I have a better chance making a phone in my garage than one of them having stock.
Louisville KY is their main hub after that it's usually a local shipping center then your local hub

I live in the Bay Area and there are about 15 within a 50 mile radius. Many options.
Just left Apple Store with iPhone 7 plus 128gb matte black I reserved. I wasn't questioned about the IUP or anything. Just went through the upgrade process with Verizon with no problems. I had cancelled my preorder through apple before arriving. Made my day!
