I'm pretty sure I saw some other company that has a Qi charger with two or three charging areas. Will probably get that if no AirPower by Monday evening. Not sure how they could figure it out but Apple couldn't. Maybe the charging zones don't overlap as much, but it's still better than nothing.

If the new AirPods look the same as the old AirPods, how are people with old AirPods supposed to know that I'm better than them when I buy the new AirPods?

You will need to constantly use the "Hey Siri" feature when you are around.

Seems like it. Sucks for those using iPhone 5 or 5C too.
I'm sure there will be a lot of people wanting to rock AirPods 2 from 2019 with their iPhone 5 from 2012, lol. Did the originals even work with the iPhone 5? I thought the AirPods required iOS 11 and the iPhone 5 wasn't supported on that, but maybe just as simple bluetooth earbuds?

The only I was able to find when looking for an alternative to AirPower only charges two devices, and they are not proper pads, more bases-like, because the watch charger is the same shape than the one that comes with the Watch itself, so they are two totally separated area, one for the iPhone and one for the Watch.

Doesn't seem like it has the best rating. As I said a little bit earlier, I'm pretty sure I've seen some others that were better reviewed at some point but can't think of them. Does anyone know what they were called?

Yeah I think that's at least one of the ones I'm thinking of, but I thought it had two charging pads in a single unified pad on the base and then like a little watch charging stand on the side? There might have been multiple sizes so one with just one pad and watch, another with two and the watch, etc.

Whether it is commonplace or not is not the matter, simply extending the statement. And yes, the original AirPods worked with any iOS 10 device

Multi-device charging has been around for years and you could have used that capability on day 1 of Apple's foray into wireless charging for the iPhone. There was never a need for Apple to figure that out. What Apple was trying to figure out was "place anywhere" charging. All other multi-device chargers have specific zones that must have transmitter and receiver aligned. Apple's rumored 22 coil design would have negated the alignment requirement.

I question this as well. I used to be the King on my college campus. Now it’s a meme and everyone and their mothers have them.
I need to reclaim my rich guy superiority.

Really excited for AirPower, as my Belkin charger is cramped with devices. Hope it lives up to the hype!

Yes is that one. I understand it's a valid alternative to AirPower, but technically is a lot easier to realise because it doesn't solve the problem AirPower was supposed to solve, have a flat pad where you can lay your devices without caring about their position etc. I guess is what makes hard to nail it.

What I don't get is how you charge your Apple Watch if the band doesn't come into two pieces? Many of them don't, so you'd have to take off half your Apple Watch band every night which would be more annoying—and the point of AirPower is to make things less annoying. Perhaps that is also part of the delay? Although I don't think they could get around charging through metal bands.

Actually the low rating comes from a guy who wrote: "It works on iPhone 8 and up. It doesn’t work for iPads. Very disappointing. Should state in the package. It would have saved me 60.00"

So.. it is for sure AirPods 2 won't work on iOS 12.0.1? I don't want to update to iOS 12.2, honestly.
0 reason not to update.
I didn't ask what the reasons to update were, I just asked if there was any chance of getting them to work on iOS 12.0.1.

As for the reasons not to update, for me trying 12.1 and having several data and wifi connection failures on my iPhone 8 were enough to stay on the 12.0.1 factory software version.

Apples PR department messed up! The chip is a second generation of the W1 hence it's a W2 not H1 chip. Unless it offers something more here that hints on the letter change. H for health?

OK I found this thing but it seems like you can only charge two at once? Not sure if that's talking about the pad or one pad item and one Apple Watch or whatever? I imagine this orientation would be best for having an AirPods case next to the iPhone on a night stand.

That Nomad pad only charges the iPhone and Apple Watch. Which is weird since it contains 3 coils in the base. But those coils are only there to support an orientation change for the iPhone. If you don't require wireless charging for your AirPods, this stand charges all 3.

Although, it looks as if you stare at that pin hard enough it would break off in the AirPods.

Hah, I just bought AirPods 2 with the wireless case not long ago. So looking for wireless. Although I switched from a flat Qi charger to an upright one a few months ago and so I have a spare at home, so I might just set that one up on my desk at work which is where I use AirPods the most.

There is shame in telling people about the product to get them to buy your headphones when you know the item will never ship. I got an X and airpods because I was told the charging mat was launching on a specific date. Wireless charging was big selling point for me as it moved me back from Android to iOS. I was sold wireless charging capabilities for the device and accessory. meanwhile both my phone and headphones have been discontinued. I find something wrong with that.

What, you moved from Android to iOS because of a Wireless charging pad Apple said they would release? That's a heck of a jump just for a pad.

There are other wireless charging solutions. Have I missed something here... Why rely on Apple's solution when others work just as well, if not better.

For example, I bought this (I don't have AirPods, but I've just ordered the new ones) and it's better than a flat pad because I can use nightstand mode on my watch, I can snooze my alarm without picking up my phone. I can tap my bedside table to see the time. With what Apple is promising, none of this is possible because it's all flat on my night stand.

Just saying, there are other options out there that work just as well. Or have I missed something?
