I like it a lot. Much more Ive-like than Forstall-like.

I feared it would suck but, no, I really like it.

Well done, Apple.

I love the new Up Next feature :D .

I hope that those who are discovering new bugs are submitting them to Apple by going to iTunes > Provide feedback ;) .

No thank you.

If you didn't like Coverflow you didn't use it anyway, so you should be neither happy nor sad that this viewing option is gone.

I like Coverflow. I'm only using Coverflow on all my machines. I type the first few letters of the band I want to listen to and the albums fly by. It looks and feels great, especially when listening to random songs.

I don't understand why Apple removed that view, makes no sense to me. And I'm not gonna upgrade until this view is brought back.

They removed it because it sucked, and became even more pointless over time. It was only created to prove a point with core animation to begin with, and has served no purpose since.

I used it EXCLUSIVELY in conjunction with list view, as my primary way of viewing my library. Now that it is gone, I couldn't care less. It just wasn't that good compared to what we have now.

Anyone figure out how to disable the black hover arrows? If you mouse around the library, they pop up all over and it looks like the screen is glitching out. Seems like most of the functionality it offers in its menu is duplicated in ctrl/right click anyway.

I can't get my 3Gs to sync. Tried with cable and without. Keeps dropping the connection. Also it seems to have attached a yellow othe which roughly matches the sum of the intended content. Thus it's over flowed. The few times I can get a stable connection gets stopped by this. Had to turn much of it off what a pain.

I do not find it slow at all! In artist mode, I can zip through the artists quickly and have access to their albums, all sorted by year of release.

Annoying? It's new and you have to get used to change...so far, I find it fresh, and sleek.

Coverflow? It was cool looking, but the more music you have, the less useful it was, IMO. Rarely used it and will not miss it.

I have 20,000 songs and it is slooowwwww. Scrolling through artists is quick but it takes a while for artwork to load. The view of albums is annoying too, why can't we see a list of albums not just all of them there so you have to scroll through to find the one you want? It now takes longer to do that. For artists where you have a lot of albums (10+) you have to scroll through a lot of stuff before you hit the tenth.

Coverflow was rubbish.

Similar things apply to the iTunes playlist, where it's no longer seems to be possible to specify the metadata to be displayed in the list view.

So View>View options is gone? What is displayed by default? Just track name, artist, album?

What happens to the metadata that isn't displayed? Is it just deleted? I've used the "grouping" field to custom tag a lot of my popular music when the genre is too general (like grunge, alt-country, shoegaze, instead of alternative). If I upgrade, do I lose that?

Is it possible to sort by metadata that isn't displayed? I sort my classical music by track number, so it will play tracks in the correct order. Is it no longer possible to do that?

Edit: It is still possible to specify the metadata in the list view. It's still View>View options.

My biggest gripe with cover flow was that it was kind of awkward for me to use. You had this beautiful display of album art and underneath it a list. It was just kind of awkward, they should've put the list aside the cover flow and or somehow incorporated the album songs perhaps on top of the album art for quick glance.

That said, I never really used it, but I still want it back!

I just used the list to select songs. The cover flow was there to display the album art.

Much better than now where the list has no album art aside from a minuscule thumbnail at the top.

Did they correct Home Sharing so that the host doesn't need to be open and running for others to access over the wi-fi network?

Airplaying movies from my HDD on my Airport Express stops every 10 minutes... WAY TO GO

I agree, the new search is terrible in this respect. Fine, make it work like it does, but when you are in song view, why did they remove the feature where the list was refined in real-time as you type?

Thanks, that is a little bit better, but it should still be refining the song list view in real time while typing. That way I know exactly how much I need to type in order to narrow it down to only the content I want. Now, not only is it an extra keystroke, but if I haven't typed enough to narrow it down fully, I have to start over. Dumb.

Update. The way to do this is to click the magnifying glass in the search bar and uncheck 'Search Entire Library.' It now refines the list in real-time, and can handle multiple field searches.

iTunes 11 has *completely* changed the way I listen to my music. All day I've been using the Up Next feature - I guess I like being able to choose what's up next without having to shuffle and then keep skipping out the tracks I'm not so keen on. It really is a great feature!

I posted in another thread about the itms glitches I was experiencing. They were all sorted by a restart. Perhaps apple should force a restart with this update?

First Impressions

Overall, I like the refresh. Reminds me of one of my favorite app changes from Snow Leopard to Lion: Mail.

The new icon with the white notes is a little more appealing and brighter than the old dark notes.

Interesting how there is now a dedicated button to switch to the mini-player. This will take a bit of time to retrain my muscle memory, but I think it is a good mood so the green maximize button can go back to standard functionality.

I especially like how the iTunes Store button is a lot more prominent. I always felt that the iTunes Store item in the side bar was easily buried in the list of all the other items.

Never used Cover Flow that much, so I'm not going to miss it.

Being able to play a preview of a song in the Store and then browsing elsewhere lets the preview continue playing. That is a nice touch.

The only downside I've seen so far is a couple of areas where it was somewhat sluggish, especially when browsing content on the iTunes Store.

Yep!

Spotify is a TERRIBLE deal for artists. It's practically legal piracy.

It's not enough to live on that's for sure. I'm hardly a major artist but I believe last month I got paid 15 whole us cents for plays of my music on there.

It's not something I can opt out of because it goes as part of a deal I have here my music goes on itunes, amazon mp3 and a number of other online stores - spotify is part of that.

The only positive thing I can state is that I suspect some of my music was purchased by people in countries I'll likely never visit by listening to spotify:
China, Australia, Belgium, Japan, UK etc.

Me, too! ;^)

I'm the only human being alive who used cover flow in tandem with the song list view?

Like so:

Not sure why so many people say "Cover flow sucks" . . . It does what it's supposed to do, that's all.

Just goes to show we each have our own ways of listening to music, and there probably will never be a single app that can keep all of us happy.

Ringtones or Tones missing??

Has anyone else noticed the disappearance of ringtones? I can't find them in the drop down menu under "Music", nor are they easily searched on the music store.

While I do find "some" but there's no longer a "category" that's found under Ringtones or Tones on iTunes 11.

When searching a singer's music by song, I see no indication of any of their songs being "ringtones" anymore nor any notation at all regarding ringtones for that artist. I know I have several by certain artists but they've vanished from the store.

What gives? I know there's a plethora of ringtone makers but I'm busy and somewhat lazy and would rather pay the buck or two for a ringtone right now and not have to go through the trouble of making one myself.

I'm just surprised, not only that its missing, but I seem to be the only one noticing or commenting on it.

Will I Lose Coverflow Feature on iPhone 5?

Hi, I'm new and just got a new iPhone 5 (I said goodbye to Android)
I've previously had a ipod 4th gen so have iTunes 10.

If I update to the new iTunes 11 and then connect my iPhone 5 will I lose the coverflow feature on my iPhone 5?

Seems pretty good as far as I can see. A bit cleaner, like the expanded view as it keeps everything together. And the Songs view is the old list view that I'm used to using.

The new mini player is pretty great - what would be good would be able to drop it into the dock.

No. :)

iCloud songs now show up in my library :-/. So now if I downloaded a single and then went and bought the actual CD/burned a friends and deleted the iTunes version, I have 2 copies and they both play one right after another. Annoying. Also, crappy songs I got from free promotion code that I deleted are now back on my iTunes... great...
