map is awesome......only in the USA

Kindly give me back my g maps , i dont see apple coming anytime soon to nigeria to update the maps for it :(

its not a request, its a must:mad:

and for me iOS6 Maps is actually quite a bit more up to date than googles. It really depends on where you live, but people forget that googles been building theirs over a decade while piggy backing on a multitude of other companies data. I know it may be a rough transition for some or most but it will get there.
So we have to wait another decade before Apple brings their app to the level Google Maps was 5 years ago (original iPhone)?

My biggest concern has been the changing of the maps application. I didn't agree with it when it was announced and even though I haven't updated yet (waiting for my new phone) I have heard tons of negative stuff already. My hope is that it will be frequently updated by Apple.

I use it on a daily basis. Don't you? Don't everybody?
Maybe you don't need a map where you live, if it's a small town and you never need to go outside, but over here it's a necessity.

Not since I bought Navigon back when I was using a 3G. Since then if I don't know where someplace is I let Navigon tell me how to get there.

Rough transition? Are you from Apple Marketing? The thing is useless and renders a good deal of the phone useless too - and this is before we get to the point where you can use google maps to plan something on a desktop and move it to you phone. It's going to default to this s**tpile every time you do anything presence related and judging by the speed Siri get's updated it might be accurate around 2067... if we're lucky.

No NAVIGON for Japan unfortunately.
Also, it doesn't look like the NAVIGON app would work great if you get by walking and using public transit 99% of the time.

Search for restaurants around me with the old (Google) maps and it finds over 20.
Search for restaurants around me with the new maps and it finds...3!

Give me the option of using the old Maps app until you fill in the gaps PLEASE!

You're eating it wrong.

Still no street view

I think I figured out a way around it. If you want Google Maps, here's what you do.

Open Safari, go to the Google Maps website and it'll ask for your location. Once there, there is a new option if you tap on the arrow that lets you add Google Maps to the home screen.

Voila. It becomes an app again. Now you can use either Apple Maps or Google's version. That's what I did when I used iOS 6.

No need to wait for Google to create a new app. It's a bit of a 'long hand' approach since it is actually a bookmark to the google page which automatically opens up Safari as a 'web app'.

I did exactly that for some reason the mobile version has no "Street View", which was so useful if doing sales or business work. Nice to see the neighborhood, parking availability, etc.

Unless there is some trick I'm missing. You can switch to the web version, but that is way too slow.

The new maps are terrible. I tried upgrading my iPad first to try them out, as I rely on them a lot less on there than I do on my iPhone.

Conclusion: I won't be upgrading my phone to iOS 6 until either a standalone Google Maps app is available (I tried the web app, it's fiddly to use) or there's a dramatic improvement in Apple Maps.

I suspect I'm one of many.

The new maps doesn't know where most of the tube stations or rail stations are. Even the ones it does are represented by a generic "train" symbol rather than the National Rail/Tube logo like Google Maps did. This is a far more important feature for someone living in London than the gimmicky flyover mode. The satellite imagery is terrible even in outer London. Plust they haven't bothered to go to the trouble of making major roads the correct colours for each country like Google did. Overall the whole experience feels like alpha software.

Even with his hatred of Google, I don't think Steve would have allowed these maps to be released in their current form.

So, is there a YouTube app for the iPad now? The iPhone stand-alone one is great but I can't see one for iPad and using the browser version simply sucks...

Sounds like Apple has some work to do on maps outside the US, but for the NYC area, it's far nicer and seems to show more restaurants, bars, businesses, etc. and detail than the old maps. Flyover, like street view, is really cool, but not really useful. I know some people on here are lamenting the loss of street view, but I seriously have not met one person who thought it was all that useful. It could be because here in NY, the landscape is constantly changing and businesses come and go so quickly, there's a very good chance that street view is showing outdated images.

I wish they have used NFC

the guy in apple who said it is not for this time should have been fired

what is apple identity if it does not bring new stuff before everyone else

i do not like the path of the company lately, it just a catch up what the others did. I hope they look back and redefine their goals and plans

Can't resist asking.. So, everybody who pre-ordered the 5 knows that iOS 6 comes installed on it right?

Might have been a good idea to have held off for a week or two to see what iOS 6 was like before taking the plunge before testing the water.

Just stating the obvious.. or at least the obvious to those of us who thought first.. and ordered/purchased later. ;)
Do I regret pre-ordering the iPhone 5?

After seeing iOS 6 on the Retina iPad, the answer is "no, I don't regret it".

The grumbling about Maps goes back to when we first heard that Apple and Google were severing their collaboration on Maps. I heard mumbling from those who were beta testing. I was not blindsided, suddenly, this week, because my eyes and ears were open beforehand. I did my thinking before I placed the order.

My iPhone has left Alaska, and is scheduled to be delivered Friday, 09/21/2012, by 10:30 A.M. I'll be there to receive it (though I'm taking the time with a grain of salt, as the UPS truck usually comes in the evening).

NO, we don't forget that, so just stop patronising us will you?

It matters not one bit how long Google have been doing this, Apple must compete with them now, not 10 years ago. Apple didn't release a wind up telephone with it's first iPhone just because it hadn't been doing it as long as Alexander Graham Bell did it? Oh and Apple is piggybacking on the data and expertise of companies that have been in the game for quite some time too, so no excuse there either, it appears they picked the wrong ones, bungled the implementation and then rushed it out before it was ready for public consumption.

Apple maps replaces functionality that was already in, and a key feature of their product, with something that for many, many people - think those of us outside the US, is not just somewhat inferior or lacking features but completely useless. If maps shows entire cities in the UK in the wrong location how can I ever expect to trust it? It's trash, literally.

Wow...I am so angry re: maps. I can't believe they shipped this colossal piece of s*** when it so clearly isn't ready. It absolutely SUCKS here in Australia, it's ugly as hell and there is absolutely nowhere near the level of detail of Google Maps, especially when it comes to satellite pics. Wish I hadn't jumped in to the upgrade.

LOL, I did have a good laugh though when it had listed a restaurant nearby that has been closed for almost 10 years, although that is probably Yelp's fault.

Jobs would've had someone's head for the poor quality of software Apple has been dishing out for the past year!

Got burned by iOS4 on my 3G and learned my lesson.
iOS 6 is not going anywhere near my iP4.

If it's performance you're worried about it's fine on the iP4, it's actually faster than iOS5.

If you thought you had it bad, take a look at China in Apple Maps:
