iOS 6 Download

Does updating to iOS 6 delete music and settings? Or is it really simple??:confused:

Google Maps solved and restored

This about sums it up.

Pathetic.

Edit: MacRumors doesn't resize images automatically? What year is it, again?

I think I figured out a way around it. If you want Google Maps, here's what you do.

Open Safari, go to the Google Maps website and it'll ask for your location. Once there, there is a new option if you tap on the arrow that lets you add Google Maps to the home screen.

Voila. It becomes an app again. Now you can use either Apple Maps or Google's version. That's what I did when I used iOS 6.

No need to wait for Google to create a new app. It's a bit of a 'long hand' approach since it is actually a bookmark to the google page which automatically opens up Safari as a 'web app'.

Needless to say, I will not update to ios6 until google can offer me a real map application on my iphone. If that doesnt happen in the next 6 months when I'm set to replace my iphone, I will not be replacing it with an iphone 5. This is a deal breaker for me. :(

Sounds like a great plan, we can tell you definitely need to have a better working map program on your iPhone so that you can get home everyday! LOL

>> 3D map of Miami Beach is strange....there are no people but you can still see their shadows.

Ever heard about rising international tension between Japan and China in the territorial dispute over a group of islands?
http://business.blogs.cnn.com/2012/09/11/tension-rises-over-disputed-islands-in-asian-seas/

Apple solved the problem and made the islands disappear altogether:

Is it the problem of my Chinese Input?
(Some may not see or read the character between " ". They are Chinese Words)
When I type "釣魚台", the result is that it belongs to China.
When I type "尖閣諸島", only coordinate shows up and it doesn't have any owner.

Their coordinates are same. But I can't see anything on the points they pointing to:cool:

*squints ts on his ipad*

Maybie bringing out "something else" for the time being, till Google realeases their own app.

Edit..:Macrumors really needs to resize images ..... One post affects the rest.

Tim is aware of the situation

I just emailed Tim Cook to let him know that the new Maps sucks and to fix it. I'll let everyone know if he gets back to me.

I did that the moment I heard that iOS 6 was dropping Google Maps and while it sort of works, it's painfully slow compared to the native app.

Another thing is, will Google be allowed to create a Map app for iOS? A Google Maps app would most likely duplicate Apple's app functionality.

I'm updating the iPad2 to iOS 6, but holding off with the iPhones until iOS 6.1 or later.

Sorry Apple, I won't be updating my 3GS to iOS 6 because of the maps issue. I'm simply not ok with sacrificing the excellent mapping app I've used for the past 5 years because you and Google can't sit next to each other in class anymore without being disruptive. Learn to work well with others; don't succumb to the belief that anything you make is better simply because you made it.

Can't resist asking.. So, everybody who pre-ordered the 5 knows that iOS 6 comes installed on it right?

Might have been a good idea to have held off for a week or two to see what iOS 6 was like before taking the plunge before testing the water.

Just stating the obvious.. or at least the obvious to those of us who thought first.. and ordered/purchased later. ;)

This new maps app is crap. Don't take away something good only to replace it with something not ready forprime time. Forstall should have his pay docked for this.

I think more people should email him. And Forstall too. The map app is embarrassingly bad.

Your telling people to resist shiny new hardware? Good luck with that. :D

LOL. I'm sure Tim was aware of the situation before they shipped. But Tim couldn't delay release when there was a new phone to ship. Apple obviously believes people will just go along with it until they get their act together.

How come some of the sharing apps are colored and others like bookmark, print and copy are silver? They really seem mismatched.

It will take years before maps is on par with Google - maps just moved everything in my town 100-1000 meters in random directions...

The Roundup should also prominently include the giant middle finger Apple just showed all the first generation iPad owners.

There is NO HARDWARE reason for not updating the original iPad.

The only reason is so that Apple can force the suckers to buy the iPad Mini if they want to see iOS6, and of course to justify the bonuses the a$$h0les in upper management get.

I thought this had already been figured out. Yes the hardware is capable of running it since it has the same processor as the phone (3gs) i think but it also has the same videocard to and i dont know if you figured it out but the iPad has a much larger screen so its using more vram in the first place. They probably tried it and realized it was slow as hell because of that where as the 3gs is ok because the display is so much smaller and not using as much.

I didn't preorder my new iPhone for this very single reason. Maps seemed to be pretty bad in all reviews I read about the beta, but I was still hoping it would get better by release.
This is so bad that I'm putting off getting the iPhone 5 and cringe at the thought of having to get my next phone from Microsoft/Nokia or Google.

I guarantee you google will come up with their own map application very soon. They already released a youtube app. Get the iphone if you want it, but there may be like a week without the same map application you are used to but it will be there again. This is a marketshare party of maps for google, no way they will let everyone just switch to apple maps. Plus they have known about this for a while, hell they are probably just waiting to release it for this exact reason. A flare up against apple maps.
