As for the original iPad? Apple's not offering of an OS upgrade to a device they sold as new 559 days ago is scandalous. Where is the outrage about this?
1 year, 6 months, 9 days from unbox to a "to-the-bin" for a 500 pound plus piece of kit!

Was iMore being sarcastic?

So far I'm in love with maps. I've been playing with it for the last half-hour.

I don't think so. Compared to other updates, this one is pretty lackluster. We got a "better" maps, which honestly isn't better yet for most. Look at all the complaints already from people outside the US. Couple that with Apple's maps finding much fewer locations (e.g. places to eat) and no transit... in its current state maps isn't likely an upgrade for many, but rather a sidegrade. I got some features I wanted, but lost a bunch of features I needed!

Outside of maps, much is the same, aside some minor tweaks. We saw a whole lot more going from iOS 3 to iOS 4 to iOS 5 than we did hopping to iOS 6 IMO.

Thanks for the info.
I haven't gone to a Giants baseball game in years, but I just noticed in my MLB App update that AT&T Park in San Francisco is one of the handful of stadiums supported, so I am tempted to go.

The perks of getting app supported early! I am betting a lot of early adopters (speaking businesses here) of passbook are going to see a bit of a boost in sales as people are eager to try the new feature out.

...WOW.

I downloaded iOS6 on my Ipad 2.. I typed in my home address (a home built over 2 and 1/2 years ago) and iOS maps couldn't find it...

On my iPhone, I use my maps application several times a day. I occasionally use street view to scope out places I've never been to (such as to check the parking situation, or just to see how the store/building/store looks so I find it quicker). I'm sorry, the very limited flyover feature is useless and gimmicky. In general maps have seemingly no detail compared to google's. I cant find half the restaurants that exist in my neighborhood.

Needless to say, I will not update to ios6 until google can offer me a real map application on my iphone. If that doesnt happen in the next 6 months when I'm set to replace my iphone, I will not be replacing it with an iphone 5. This is a deal breaker for me. :(

iOS6

Maps puts me two houses away and moves around! Google maps was fine. Up until today imessages from my iPhone and replies appeared on my iPad 1. Since upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS6 they appear on my two macs but have stopped appearing on the iPad 1. Has this functionality now been disabled on the original iPad, even though it was working yesterday?

Go away troll.

Will they ever put in a different password option like the connect the dots thing other phones have?

Maps is horrible in the US as well:

I just jail broke my iPhone 4 for the first time. Is it worth me upgrading to iOS6 ? I know nothing about jail breaking either so all I have is bite SMS and NCSettings. Maybe other stuff would make the jail break more worth while?

This is unedited. What a mess!
Why isn't the uk map disaster getting headline status??

Maps is awful, absolute bag of ****. Street View in Google Maps is amazing compared to this 'flyover' crap. They shouldn't have released it until it was of equal quality to the app it is trying to replace.

Speaking as a self admitted Apple fanboy (iPhone 5 bought, iPad 3, Mac), I don't think there's anything wrong with what he said. If the map is not finding something 2.5 years old, that's not good. I have already read other posts saying that apple maps satellite view is missing something that's been there for over 2 years, while google's images seem to be less than 6 months old.

Some people will always have a want/need for google street view, so they will probably have google maps installed too. Until this all gets fixed, some will use Apple Maps just for navigation, and google maps for all else. And that's ok.
I use apple stuff (hardware, apps) because I do feel that it is the easiest/best. If something is better, especially if its an alternate map app, we should be using it. There is no reason to use an inferior product just because. Apple can improve this and I think their track record shows they eventually will.

I hope Apple is gathering all of this feedback and taking it into consideration for iOS 6.1 update.

Little more hate for maps --- extremely outdated sat pics! The tree in front of my house that has been here 10 years is just a shrub! Seems thrown together.

One thing Apple needs to do is start releasing updates to the included apps in the app store. While they generally tend to be pretty good, only updating them with full iOS releases just isn't good enough.

Does it have the one feature I am dying for though? That is when you open a new tab in safari for ipad does it still drop down recent searches that block your bookmark bar? If not then I am sold!

I've got to say I'm pretty unimpressed with maps as well. The overall feel is better, things feel more fluid, it's easier to distinguish noted objects (hospitals, parks, ext) but they removed some really key information. Considering I moved to Paris about a week ago not having metro stations on my map is a GIANT pain in the butt.

This.

Do not upgrade to iOS 6 if you use Maps and don't live in a major (preferably US) city.

- No Street View
- No public transport routing (unless there's a 3rd party app for your neighbourhood)
- Poor satellite imagery.

+ Gimmicky 3D flyovers of selected cities - cool but no practical use (and when you zoom in too close it looks like a scene from Inception)
+ Turn-by-turn, which is as much use as a chocolate teapot if (a) you don't have GPS (b) you don't have mobile internet, or ever drive out of a coverage area or (c) you've bought TomTom or CoPilot because of (c).

Sorry Apple - fail. The Maps App in my 3-year-old Android Phone now has more useful features than the one in my iPad 3. If you're going to write your own maps, don't launch it until it's got all the key features.

Yah, the original iPad is _really_ useless now...

Search for restaurants around me with the old (Google) maps and it finds over 20.
Search for restaurants around me with the new maps and it finds...3!

Give me the option of using the old Maps app until you fill in the gaps PLEASE!

Wow, that's pretty horrid. Regardless of how many features Apple's Maps app has, if it can't...you know...FIND PLACES, then what's the point?
