Found a Bug?

I tried to move the Passbook app to my 4th screen and the silver Apple logo came up (briefly) and the screen reset to it's lowest brightness.

The brightness slider was still set to maximum and I had to slide it down then up again to get the brightness back.

And, it didn't move the app to where I needed it.

Thoughts?

Maps view of my house is actually more recent with the Apple Maps app than with google, guess I was lucky!

Apple should have focused on real innovation instead of focusing on replacing Google maps. The only good that comes from this is Google can release an app in the app store and that will allow them to update it far more quickly than just when apple updates the whole os. The YouTube app is also useless and not as good as YouTube on the web did they get rid of the YouTube app also? Getting rid of YouTube app and at least allowing newsstand to be put in a folder would be excellent

Wow. No transit? That's going to piss off a core constituency/demo...

Checks facebook

...Oh wait, it has.

"Macworld
Simply put, there’s no reason not to update to iOS 6"

Simply put, there's a big, big reason not to update to iOS 6: Maps.

It's slow.
It looks ugly.
It doesn't show and find things.

Search for restaurants around me with the old (Google) maps and it finds over 20.
Search for restaurants around me with the new maps and it finds...3!

Give me the option of using the old Maps app until you fill in the gaps PLEASE!

Exactly why I will not be upgrading my iPad until Google Maps is released as a separate app. I already hate the fact I will not have it on my iPhone 5, just going to have to use Google's website I guess.

Typical Apple, give people less just to obtain greater control over everything.

I've just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS6 and map regret has already set in. I'm only realizing now what a massive loss that the lack of walking and transit is going to be for me. I was going to buy an iPhone 5, but now I'm not as sure as I was this morning.

I'm genuinely feeling kinda crappy about "defecting" to Android, but if this feature is a big enough deal, I really should switch. The only thing is that I don't know which to pick. Samsung Galaxy S3 is the only choice that seems obvious, but they've called me, an iPhone user, an idiot so many times that I'm willing to go almost any other route. I'm fine with Google. I actually think they're a brilliant company (actually reading "In The Plex" right now...) but Samsung's copying and insults have me wanting to choose anything else. So.. if you HAD to pick an Android phone out of Motorola, LG, Meizu, Sony, or Huawei, which would you pick? I'm thinking maybe the Sony.

In every other way except for Maps, the iPhone 5 is exactly what I want... if Google is smart (which I'm afraid they are), they may not release maps for iOS, and that will drive at least me to Android.

I live outside the US and my city it's just a piece of land with no streets other than the major highways. I know Apple's main public is the American people. However, it is unfair for all of us overseas to have to struggle with the new maps app. Because of this reason even though I had installed the golden master of iOS 6 days ago I downgraded it this morning before they released iOS 6 so I could keep my old maps from Google. At least until Google releases a new maps ap for iOS.

I kept iOS 6 on my iPad cause I don't use that for navigation and there are some nice features I like, but for my cellphone I'd rather lose some of the other features and keep my google maps app.

I have had iOS 6 since the beta, and since updating I now have Personal Hotspot enabled and I don't pay any extra for it. Does anyone else have it enabled?

Things I have tried so far.

- Maps - I know maps is a work in progress but for the UK areas I have looked at so far its pretty much pointless the maps are that bad.

- Photos - I had 6,000 photos sorted into about 200 specific folders (Synchronised from my PC) for the event that they were shot at. On both my iPad and iPhone these have now all been lumped into one folder. Thankfully I have a backup that I can hopefully sync back onto my devices but its still annoying that this update has done this.

Passbook - Not exactly a nice/refined user experience when you open it up and the only option is App Store and clicking on that gives the message Cannot connect to iTunes Store I know its early days for this feature but I am sure millions of people have tried this for the first time today and had the same terrible experience, not really what apple is best known for tbh.

Panorama Photos - Seems to work well on the iPhone 4S

Phone - DND and Reply with message are nice features they have added but it seems crazy that at this stage of its development that you still cant have a blocked numbers list in iOS. Nuisance calls are a real hassle for many people but its still not possible to simply block a number from calling you in iOS.

On a positive note:

maps.google.com actually looks quite nice on my iPad.
And seems to work well, too.
Offering "add to your home screen", as soon as I visited the site.
And man, was I quick to that.

(though positioning and navigation is probably not as "live" as Apple's is. But as a non-motorist I don't really need it)

WOW! What a difference. That's kinda sad..

I would've thought this new Map App would be better consider TomTom produced it. But I'm actually finding myself missing Google's maps.

EDIT: Just decided to view my neighborhood as a map and not aerial. The maps are way off.

Before my iPhone 5 gets here I installed to my iPhone 4...

Only complaint really is the menu bar change. I realize that at full-brightness it's prettier (sorta..), now .. but anything lower it's much harder to read when its a funny color to match the App... not to mention that the blue-tint in settings or messages is really close to the personal hot-spot tint at a lower brightness, so I keep looking like *wha?!*:confused::confused:

Oh well.

How is it that Apple can get hardware right but software is just underwhelming. I mean seriously they shouldn't be releasing the map app if it's this bad. Keep Google for another until they get it where it needs to be.

Yup, maps is awful. Thing is I relied on the original Maps app for little bouts of GPS, but this new one doesn't know a load of locations I need it to. And Streetview was great fun.

I really hope Google release a dedicated map app.

Overall I don't think it was worth the upgrade for me. Looking into how to go back to iOS5 until either the native maps app is updated or Google step in. Yup, it's that valuable to me.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already but the only thing I don't like about the path that Apple is taking is the tighter integration with Facebook. I wish Apple would be social networking agnostic, I don't need a send to FB option for everything. Hell, I'd prefer a +1 option if anything.

Also, I'm not upgrading until the Google has a map app....

Lots of issues...

I really had allot of issues with the iOS 6 update today. And so far I still can't use it after 5 hours.

I began my download when they released it earlier this afternoon. When the download completed, the install failed. Apple gave me no reason other than a little message that said "Install Failed". Thanks for the info apple... So I tried it again, and another 40 minutes later got the same message. So I assumed this may be a space issue, and deleted all photo's and videos on my device going from 2.4 GB free to nearly 4 GB free. Even though the update was much smaller than both of these (I know it has to be unpacked after the download finishes).

Third times the charm? Nope. I got it to download for the third time, it said "Processing File" or something like that for nearly another 40 minutes. By this time I am at work. It finally finished with that and gave me the INSTALL button. I pushed that an again what seemed like forever it installed. Being at work I had to leave the phone to itself for a bit, and when I came back, the phone was off. I turned it on and about 1 minute after the apple logo sat there it shows me a picture of a plug with the itunes logo. So I guess I have to wait 4 hours until I can go home and connect the stupid phone to iTunes.

All in all, a VERY POOR update experience. Hopefully no-one else ran into these problems. The thing that annoys me most about it is that my phone is STANDARD, DEFAULT, iPhone 4. It's not jailbroken or had anything done to it. Apple makes the software, the hardware, the distribution network, basically everything, and yet I have all of these issues... EVERY time I go to update a major OS release. Not to mention, when there is an issue, they provide you with ZERO details on the issue.

I'm just really ready to get home and attempt to get my phone back in working condition...

To anybody out there willing to go back to iOS 5.1.1 before Apple stops allowing it just follow these steps...

1. Download the 5.1.1 IPSW file from here. Make sure you pick the right device and iOS version (5.1.1).
2. Connect your device to USB
3. Go to iTunes and press the Restore button while holding the Alt key.
4. Browse to the file you just downloaded and select it.

If everything goes fine your device should restore back to iOS 5.1.1 and you should go back to the old Google Maps app.

If you have doubts about downgrading, dont hesitate too much as Apple will probably block iTunes from allowing downgrades no later than tonight as they regularly do. So be quick...

Only had to use google maps on the iPhone a few times since the first iPhone. For directions I use Co-pilot in the UK which has always been far superior for directions than anything google has ever done.

Flyover and street view before it have been fun to dick about with but I would rely on neither to get me anywhere but they are fine for free.

I haven't downloaded it yet, but my friend did and overall I liked it except for Maps. I can't update until Google Maps is released in the app store.

When I visited NYC last month, the transit directions and Street View were VERY helpful for someone new to the city. With Street View I was able to get a nice preview of the area before visiting. Once I was in the neighborhood it was like I already visited there and was familiar with it.
