This is innovation. Before they could not have fit this technology into a bezel that small; now there is a less obtrusive way to arrange that potential screen space. I think this looks nicer than the notch.

Miniaturizing complex electrical components and sensors is innovative... it’s literally how we got to the point where full fledge computers fit in your hand instead of taking up massive rooms at universities.

"I predict that one day computers will be so large and so expensive that only the five richest kings of Europe will own them!" - Professor Frink, c. 1975

Although it is interesting to me that as computers have gotten smaller, phones seem to be getting bigger 😧

(Not to mention storage space. They said everything was going to be in the cloud, but now we have phones with 1 TB of space).

Don't forget that Apple also had an early iPhone prototype with a click wheel on it for navigation.....

Prototypes are just that, prototypes. I'm sure they've got all kinds of Frankenstein projects deep down in their secret labs.

Why not move all this tech into the Apple Watch and free up the bezels on the iPhone. People have been conditioned to look at their watch for a 100 years.

This is how the 2020 iPhone Pro will get a bit shorter and smaller: end the display at the current bottom of notch.

I would upgrade just for that.

This is the ideal iPhone. No notch--I'll finally be able to see the status bar icons at a glance again, like whether I'm in Do Not Disturb Mode and whether I'm connected to Bluetooth. All the benefits of the old iPhone models but without the huge bezels!
