A USD dime is one millimeter thick 🤔.. with the flat design and that extra millimeter, the illusion will make it much larger .. since we are not getting new sensors this will your big upgrade..

great. a 'boxier' bulky design that'll catch and bang into more things—the 'old' rounded edge was a good thing, not something thing that needed improvement.

sometimes ergonomics matter

Interesting. It is getting to the point where I feel like I could use the smaller watch. The original AW was 38/42mm…now we are at 41/45…

The upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 will come in larger 41mm and 45mm case sizes, replacing the current 40mm and 44m options offered since the Apple Watch Series 4, according to a leaker on popular Chinese platform Weibo.

The account sharing the information goes by UnclePan, who has shared information regarding Apple's plans in the past. According to a post from the leaker this week, the upcoming Series 7 will be offered in 41mm and 45mm case sizes.

Up until the Apple Watch Series 4, Apple had offered 38mm and 42mm case sizes. With the Series 4 in 2018, which included a larger display, the case sizes got larger with 40mm and 44mm options, replacing the older sizes. A hallmark feature of the Apple Watch that has carried through each generation has been compatibility with older Apple watch bands.

Since the Series 4, all Apple Watch bands have been compatible across each generation for the same case size. According to the leaker, this will still be the case with the Apple Watch Series 7, allowing bands designed for 40mm and 44mm Apple Watches to work with the newer 41mm and 45mm sizes.

The increase in case sizing is not entirely surprising, as the upcoming Apple Watch is expected to feature smaller bezels and a flat-edged design, allowing for a greater surface area of the display.

According to Apple leaker Jon Prosser, beyond an updated flat-edged design with a larger display, the Apple Watch Series 7 will be offered in a new green case color. Prosser, earlier in May, shared renders of what the upcoming Apple Watch could look like.

The Apple Watch Series 7 is expected to be announced alongside the iPhone 13 at a digital Apple Event next month. In the coming months, other new products we're expecting include new iPads, updated AirPods, a high-end Mac mini, and redesigned MacBook Pros.

44mm? Think big Apple ;) My 44mm is already too big for my wrist.

The comments brought to mind a 1966 advertising slogan for Benson & Hedges 100 cigarettes: "A silly millimeter longer!" I'm sure that I'm one of the few on the forum that was even ALIVE in the 60s.
This is the internet version of "In my day..."

1MM more? That’s it?

Bigger screen is always good. I just hope Apple can introduce appealing Apple Watch colors this time.

Assuming the body of the watch is the same aspect ratio, that's about a 4.6% increase in size. I think that sounds fairly reasonable considering how small the device is to begin with by virtue of the fact that it's a watch, not an iPad.

Looks great to me. As long as I can fit my braided solo loop band on it and I’m there.

So it’s time for a new trend.
I’m still waiting with my 4 Series 44mm (if battery survive) for the 9/10 series, that could be the last one of flat edges with improvements than a new trend from 2024.
Apple Watch is great for its sensors, at least Apple wouldn’t made it autonomous from iPhones, nothing else, and the last one is every year better, but not that better (5 and 6 aren’t so interesting until blood and other sensors included on them).

I figured with the flat edges that the screen would probably get bigger (like on the iPhone 12) but I wasn't expecting the case to get larger as well. Hopefully this translates to longer battery life. I'm really hoping for a surprise sensor announcement this year otherwise we're just getting a redesign which feels like a slight let down.

I might finally upgrade my Apple Watch Series 1!. I will likely go AW7 41MM or the AW SE in 42MM, depending on prices. Either will be a substantial upgrade for me, and hopefully give me another 5 years of service like my Series 1 has.
I would also suggest the Apple Watch SE. I upgraded from an AW0 to the SE and it's mind-blowing fast and doesn't break the bank! I got mine on Amazon for around $300.

This does not exactly mean there will be more space for sensors and battery capacity. Shrinking bezels of the display and going to a flat side is not going to make the device have more room inside.
Actually, going flat edges would result in quite a bit of more internal space, in the grand scheme of things. I don't think they are going to do that though, I doubt it would look good and I'm sure it would feel even worse.
