Oh bless you and your sweet innocent trusting naivety. Come Adam and take a bite from the Apple and let me show you the horrors of something called "Planned Obsolescence"
Technology moves on. Even so, older tech still works in many cases just as it did when new. My Core Duo Mini still chuges along as a server, and my Gen 3 iPad Pro still works just fine. If everything stayed bacwards compatible we'd be stuck with VGA ports, floppy drives, and USB-A connectors.
I’m not saying that whatever Apple is going to do with new Smart Connectors or MagSafe and iPads is going to drastically change the world, but there is zero reason to complain about said changes.
This is the internet; complaining without a logical reason is its whole reason d'etre.

All the more reason to stick with a good old safty razor...
No more proprietary connectors! Come on EU! Clamp down on apple again!
Charging is one thing, but even with that they left data transfer and proprietary protocols on a USB-C bus alone. Enshrining a standard connector for all uses would be a bad thing.
Seriously, it’s dismaying how the first few pages of any Apple-related news article is typically filled with people rushing in to criticise (often for the sake of criticising). Zero critical thinking, zero attempts at analysis of any sort, just cheap pot shots for the sake of easy internet points.
Come on, that's half the fun.
Very much everything you said - to add, if someone gets all bent out of shape that their 2021 iPad keyboard won't work on their 2022 iPad, my first observation would be WTF are you getting a 2022 iPad for if you have a 2021? They don't change enough year-to-year that your old one is now obsolete. And if you really feel the need for the very next year's model, and you're selling off (or giving away) your old one to get the new one, then just do the same thing with the keyboard too.
Exactly. My Gen 3 iPad Pro still meets my needs and teh newe ones haven't gotten any features that make upgrading beneficial. Once iOS gets more powerful there may be a time to do it, but until then I see no need beyond "I want one..."
iPad Pro became one of the worst values in Apple’s product lineup after the M1 iPad Air and M1 MacBook Air launched. I just don’t see the point of it. Do they think people are going to spend $1,500 for a 13” iPad Pro to render 3D scenes?? It’s not even good for serious number crunching in Excel.
However, as a portable computer with cellular connectivity it is a great replacement for a laptop when you don't want to lug a laptop and need internet access. Nothing like taking a Zoom call from the bar at the beach while enjoying a cold one.
I bought the 11” iPad Pro in 2018 (together with Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard) and have been happily using it to teach in class.
For some reason people seem to think that a device stops working when a new one comes out. I suspect mine will last at least 3 or 4 more years unless Apple comes out with some must have new feature that makes me more productive.
It's amazing how technology, even older ones, can make the classroom easier. I gave someone an old Logitech wireless keyboard/touchpad and it untethered her from her desk. She could walk around the class, use the smart board, etc.; all with ancient tech.
