Would you get the 12 mini instead if it costs $200 less ($499 vs $699 for the 13 mini)? That's the interesting question, at least to me.
I think the key for me will be battery life. If the bump up with the 13 mini is good enough, I'd probably pay that difference since I would plan on keeping it a long time. There may be other improvements that could sway me too, but since battery life has been one of the complaints, that's what I'd be looking at hardest.

Apple is starting to remind me of those corporates that add novelty features and give it big branding names just to make people buy them like 3D tv.

We are still not there and I rather not have electricity travel in the air. compacting so much stuff in such small form makes me wary of safety. Battery, wireless signals, heat, wireless electricity, coils....hmmmm.

I rather play it safe and have larger battery.

As if the mini has extra juice to reverse charge. They should limit this to Pro models but I see them standardising this and MagSafe 2.0 across the entire lineup.
I would never reverse charge, but my 12 Mini has plenty of extra juice...after a full day of use (incl bluetooth), I end the day at about 60-65% charge.

I like how this iPhone looks with transparent backside "glass".

Still bigger upgrades than 11 to 12
Not true imho, the 12 got 5G, that's a rather large upgrade on the radio side if things, thet the carriers sometimes aren't ready is hardly apples fault. Allso 5G network rollouts might have been quite a lot quicker if we hadent benn hir by the double whamy of a global pandemic and a global chip shortage

It’s nice to have the option in a pinch, but if Apple really wants to be green, it should actively work to educate people on how wasteful (and therefore unenvironmentally friendly) wireless charging really is.
the trade off for the improved UX is worth it.
i mean LTE and 5G use a ton more energy than 3g. the trade off is worth it

Funny enough the proprietary power cable going into the new iMac carrys both power and data, so this may not be so far off. If Apple did manage to develop wireless charging data transfer without the use of Wifi/Bluetooth then it could have great potential security benefits for Apple devices and also be the final straw for keeping a lightning port on the iPhone
Yes this would be great, specially as wireless car-play on our VW Bully is a mess. It works well with just one phone in the car - but with several phones competing for the stage-light, it is hell. You need to switch of bluetooth and Wifi on the unwanted phones (which is bad, if you would want to use the VW provided hotspot) to have the right one connect.

5G? Which is a waste of Damn time for at least another 2-3 years. Still no 5G coverage on most places and for some 5G is slower than 4G. 5G is not a reason to say it was worth upgrading for

New boxy design Is but the difference were more in camera improvements and of course video

Wow that sounds like a nightmare. I have only wireless charging without CarPlay. I prefer to use the cable though.

I'm a late adopter of Wireless Qi charging, but find it very convenient. And it's even become necessary in my life, as it's the only way that I can charge my current iPhone XR. I'm on my second iPhone with a Lightning connector that just refuses to work. Back when we had the 30-pin connector, I never had any issues. Now, with Lightning, two phones in a row just fail to make a connection after a year. Maybe USB-C really is better?
Have you tried cleaning out the lightening port? Try using a toothpick or paper clip to clean out any lint that may have accumulated inside he port.

It is supposed to be selectable - but unfortunately that doesn‘t work. And with up to 4 kids in the car in can indeed be a nightmare :)

I bought launch day 1st Gen AirPods. Replaced them with launch day 2nd Gen AirPods with Wireless Charging case specifically for this feature, which was first rumored for either XS series or 11 series (can’t remember). It has yet to materialize. This is the only reason I got 2nd Gen with wireless charging case. Here’s hoping it finally materializes. Would be great for APP as well

I for one won’t be upgrading to a port less iPhone. What happens when you need to restore your software? Or what about those who don’t have wireless Apple CarPlay? Every manufacturer isn’t going to include wireless CarPlay within the next few years.
True. I actually just bought one with wired.

There’s already 3rd party solutions to wireless and I’d be hopping Apple might bring out their own interim solution.
