I could see this happening and maybe bigger batteries means apple may release this.

cant Say I’ve used this once on my s21 ultra but nice to have if you need it for your air pods or a friend or family member needs more juice
Handy on my s10+ for charging my buds and watch. In an emergency for other phones but not great for that 😁

It depends on the upgrades for me. If the camera has meaningful upgrades, outside of a better wide angle camera which I don't care about then I will upgrade. If they are just spec bumps then I might sit it out this year.

I don’t want to give up the Pacific Blue color yet, so I’m sitting out this year. I really love my Pro Max, so for the first time, I’ll be keeping a iPhone for 2 years.

I remember my first year of skipping a new iPhone (many years ago now - I still use and love an SE1).

Once you get off the yearly hype cycle and start to evaluate the devices on the merits and just see the new ones as majorly pricey, mostly marginal, upgrades... (sometimes not even upgrades at all in fact)... it keeps getting easier and easier to sit it all out.

It’s not great.

But imagine when Apple remove the port how much waste is going to be saved in the manufacture of that part.

I for one won’t be upgrading to a port less iPhone. What happens when you need to restore your software? Or what about those who don’t have wireless Apple CarPlay? Every manufacturer isn’t going to include wireless CarPlay within the next few years.

If seven years worth of changes and improvements hasn’t been enough to justify upgrading I’m curious what you could possibly be waiting for at this point.

Perhaps their 6s simply does everything they need and there's no reason to pony up for a very expensive upgrade?

That'd be my thought anyhow.

Much like so many other products in ones life -- unless one just "wants to", by all means keep using anything and everything that continues to do everything you need.

I'm sure there are better dishwashers, fridges, ovens, microwaves and the like -- and yet I keep using my set of all those from 15+ years ago....because they just work and are paid for and I don't need (or even know or care) whatever has changed about new ones.

And thats fine, but then why be disappointed about the features of the new one? Seems the concern should be the 6S lasting rather than what the new models are doing.

Agreed.

I can't speak for that poster, but my frustration only comes when a model I love and use gets dropped from the current generation of things. It's not an immediate problem, but quickly becomes one as many apps sort of "move on" and really only truly support the latest/current iOS.

Apple gets major props from me for supporting the 6s/SE1 gen for yet another year (iOS15).

That's superb long term support and I really hope they continue to make that the norm when/where able.

Id love to see the wireless charging heat to be minimized. Using Magsafe, phone gets too hot when i take it off the charger.
It has already been minimized. It’s just horribly inefficient and engineering can’t fix that.

I think it’ll not only continue but probably improve even further. And not just because the chipsets in these phones are getting more and more advanced all the time (5nm Bionics in current iPhones with 3nm around the corner, that’s some cutting edge stuff).

Apple is at a point now where they realize less people are upgrading every year, and they have also been shifting a lot of focus into subscription services as a revenue stream. So it’s in their best interest to keep as many iPhones in active use as possible so the user-base within the ecosystem remains large. More iPhones in the wild means more people who may buy a subscription to an Apple service. A 6S can benefit from an Apple Music or iCloud subscription just as well as a 12 Pro Max can.

I hope you're right, but the cynical side of me worries they are going to want "both" (services as well as upgrades)...and unless things change in terms of legislation, they can turn those dials sort of as they please.

For all their seeming interest in having an iPhone in everyone's hands, they sure don't have a very diverse hardware lineup. I really wish they'd broaden it a bit (they appear to be doing the opposite by nuking the Mini).

I don’t see them completely changing the new MagSafe ecosystem one year in, tbh. It’s one of those things designed to last many generations, like the Apple Watch bands. Adding more speed and functionality, sure. Changing the actual size and ending compatibility? Nah.

There are features that change how a person interacts with technology and there are features that just sound good in a keynote. If apple made an external wireless charging battery pack or case that would serve the needs of the few that need it and not give an excuse to keep the price high on the rest that don’t.

I don’t think this has any relation to wireless revers charging. This is all about moving to an iPhone with no ports in the near future IMHO. The new iPhones will be able to charge faster with less heat loss, when Apple drops it’s only port on iPhones in a few years.
