It has to be on a Tuesday doesn't it? At least historically it does?
The iPhone 14 event was on a Wednesday. But I don’t think they would announce a Pencil separately before any iPads within the same week.

Most of these reports were about announcements "this week", not specifically today, and we've seen Apple do multiple product launches through press releases over several dates before. So this seems a bit quick to judge.
This is what I was wondering… what makes MR think the only release date for the week is today?

Imagine if Apple pulls a 360 on us and gives us the iPads tomorrow.

Highly doubt it, but this is a depressing way to end Apple Season...

It would be incredibly strange to announce the new Apple Pencil today and then a bunch of iPads tomorrow. If they were going to split up announcements, it would’ve been more likely that they’d announce the 11th gen today alongside the new Pencil, then Air and Mini tomorrow. I guess no new iPads this year.

I guess we’ll get iPad Pros in the first half/middle of next year and the others (Base, Mini and Air) in the Fall of next year.

Looks like Gurman for the win.

A year without iPads is strange indeed, but then again they don’t need spec bumps as has so so often been said.

The software needs a rethink. iPads are amazing content consumption devices and that’s about it.

That and I think they are the best FaceTime devices.

But yes I think Apple needs to lean in to the iPad for consumption and the Mac for creation. I think it’s telling that they make a pencil for it. First came keyboard, then pencil, then proper mouse support. Which is about the order of creation possible on the iPad. By the time you get to a mouse it’s time to start thinking about a Mac.

Except if they were going to announce new iPads they would have waited with the announcement of the new Apple Pencil until then. We aren't getting an iPad refresh this year.
Ok, that’s your opinion and that’s fine.
I don’t really want/need an iPad update, but the year is far from over

Pencil is not essential to iPad... anymore than mouse to MB. One/Many/Most(?) use iDevices as the Lord Jobs intended... with the 10 always-with-you hard-to-lose pencils at the ends of our hands (adjustable tips built in). Pencil is just an accessory.

Updating an accessory today doesn't mean anything about what may or may not still launch in 2023. Apple could just as readily do a "12 days of Christmas" thing and roll something out every day for the next 12 days. If something like that, perhaps a smallish 12 drummer's drumming drum stick is better for a start than an M4 Ultra iMac 32" Ultrawide in a pear tree and making the other 11 days substantially less climactic.

Or maybe there's more coming next week? Or the week after that? Or the week after that? Based on history, early November is still fair game for holiday gift-giving reveals from Apple. Personally, I'm more curious about the 5 Gold Rings.

“…on X, formerly known as Twitter…”
please stop using this phrase. Elon Musk has spoiled one of the best brands and there is no point trying constantly to fix it anymore.

I was thinking the same thing. Apple surprised us with a press release / something new three days in a row back in March 2019.

March 18, 2019 (Mon): New iPads
March 19, 2019 (Tue): New iMac
March 20, 2019 (Wed): New AirPods

I don't dig the charging capability, the current Pencil2 docked magnetically is a massive improvement over the first gen and it's really, really quick to get some life so plugging it in seems like a step back but maybe there's something I missed.
New features? maybe but to be honest the tap to switch to eraser just annoys the hell out of me because I do it often unintentionally.
*EDIT* is this just compliance to add USB-C to a device that never needed it and they are making an expensive point?... maybe it won't be anything like that ofc.
*EDIT2* The price point was a secondary glance. I recently bought 2 for 2xiPad Pro purchases at £99, well below the price on the Apple site.. meh features maybe not but cheaper price point will definitely be a seller.. could be stripped down and maybe they'll do a Pro model ofc.
