Well if it’s 30W but they move down to like 3nm node process then maybe it could be an M2 Pro? I think making that an option on the 15” “Air” or whatever it’s called would be pretty neat.

Makes sense. MacBook Air should be the smallest, thinnest, and lightest. MacBook should be bigger and more powerful than air. MacBook Pro should be even more powerful and bigger than that, although the 14 inch MacBook Pro would actually be smaller than 15 inch MacBook. However, the 16 inch would be bigger, obviously.

I’m calling it now….

MacBook Studio
Fair point. We could see studio make its way into the line of Notebooks for sure.

At this point, pro level apple silicon is overkill for my needs, and the needs of many. Apple really needs to cave and give us 15 and 16” screen size, but the M1, M2, etc. there is a need for larger screens without the need for Pro, Max, Ultra, and beyond.

As the iPad Air makes less and less sense in terms of naming convention, the Air moniker might need to disappear for good.

I had dreamed of an iPhone Air, but it might not be necessary after all.
iPad SE - 10.2” same as current iPad
iPad mini - 8.9” no changes
iPad - 10.9” drops the Air moniker
iPad Pro - 12” and 14”

This would simplifies things and tie back to the SE brand with the iPhone and Watch.

The rumored 15-inch Mac notebook that Apple is working on might not be called the "MacBook Air," according to information shared today on Twitter by well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Recent rumors have indicated that Apple is working on a larger-screened version of the MacBook Air that could measure in at around 15 inches and that would be sold alongside the 13-inch MacBook Air. The updated machine is expected to come out sometime in 2023, but if Kuo is accurate, it might not be in the MacBook Air family.

Kuo does not supply a possible naming alternative, but Apple has in the past used the "MacBook" name on a standalone basis for some of its Mac options. The last "MacBook" was the 12-inch MacBook that was discontinued in 2019.

Though Apple might go with another name, Kuo says the company is still aiming to use the same 30W power adapter that the MacBook Air uses as a power source, despite the larger screen. "Although a larger display generally consumes more power, the design goal is to use the same 30W power adapter as MacBook Air," Kuo writes.

Rumors yesterday from display analyst Ross Young suggested that the 15-inch machine would come out in 2023, and Kuo further narrows down the timeframe by suggesting that mass production will begin in the fourth quarter of 2023.

New tier— MacBook 13” and 15” for those who want more power than Air and slimmer than Pro

For me the next lineup could be:

- MacBook: the rumored M1 (yes, M1) laptop; NOT an Air using this chip again as its been said. It would be interesting to have a new chassis for this product, similar to the current Air but maybe thicker and with another little downgrade to keep it cheaper, possibly around $849

- MacBook Air (13-inch): the rumored available-in-colors laptop, with MagSafe, 1080p camera in notch, 500 nits and "lighter and thinner than ever" (it would be nice if it gets near to the 12" MacBook dimensions); along with the new M2 chip with a not anymore downgraded GPU, the redesign would be the perfect excuse to bump its price to around $1199, being the natural replacement of the 13-inch Pro

- MacBook Air (15-inch): if you imagine it with something like a 14.8" display (rather than a 15.4 like the older Pros) and the new design allowing size reduction, it could still be light enough to be called Air (we've seen iPad Air getting heavier with each gen and the MB Air ditching the 11" model); same specs as the 13-inch, except battery. It should be priced at something like $1599, at the exact middle between the 13" Air and 14" Pro

- MacBook Pro: almost the same as the current, same price; just new processors (M2 Pro and M2 Max) and another random new feature

i sincerely doubt they will introduce another new product with m1

Every time I hear about a new "Air" I get more worried. The 15" (and maybe a companion 13") dropping the name "Air" could be because -- as other rumours have suggested -- Apple is dropping the wedge design. Could it be the devices won't be so light/trim and thus not deserving of the "Air" name?

I really hope not, people who want power, big batteries, and heavy devices already have the Pro -- I don't want a "Pro-lite" I want a machine I can travel with.

For anyone who has had the experience of multiple recent Apple devices (thanks to work... lol) and not just read some spec sheets or heard a random YouTuber's claims -- the difference between machines is huge. The MacBook (12) was much lighter and smaller in hand than the Air, which does the same to the MBP 13 (lets not talk about the 15...) I was so happy to 'downsize' to the M1 Air from my MBP 13 as I had a MB 12, whilst it's not the same experience it's much better.

If the Air starts bulking like the Pro... I just can't see myself upgrading from this device. Thankfully it's damn fast.

This makes sense. iPhones go "iPhone" then "iPhone Pro," so why not simplify the naming a bit? But yes, I do agree that "M1 Max Macs" sucks and they really needed to pick a better naming scheme for the chips.
