Makes sense. MacBook Air should be the smallest, thinnest, and lightest. MacBook should be bigger and more powerful than air. MacBook Pro should be even more powerful and bigger than that, although the 14 inch MacBook Pro would actually be smaller than 15 inch MacBook. However, the 16 inch would be bigger, obviously.
That’s not how the iPad.

Maybe this will pave the way to bring back the 17" MacBook Pro?

16" come on. such an odd size when the PC Laptops are 17"

Makes logical sense, yes. But the iPad Air isn't the lightest, smallest, etc. iPad. The iPad Mini and plain old iPad are.

The naming is a mess because each lineup (phones, watches, tablets, laptops, desktops) is at a different point in its cycle of adding and cancelling options based on sales, marketing plans, and predicted demand.

Been saying for a while: drop the “Air” moniker across the entire line.

MacBook & MacBook Pro
iMac & iMac Pro
Studio Mac & Studio Mac Pro
iPhone & iPhone Pro
iPad & iPad Pro
AirPods & AirPods Pro

The naming convention is cleaner, more intuitive. The delineation and expectation, crystal clear.

And yes: we can still have the minis. 🤪

Looks great theoretically on paper, but doesn't make much sense at all with the extent of the product lineup they have. Let's take the iPad lineup, for example - you would only have two models, regular and Pro? What happens to the Air or mini?

I mean they brought back the Studio Display name. Why not bring back the iBook name. Although I feel like iBook doesn’t fit the lineup any more.

We're not even in April and already speculating on 2023? It's way too far out for anything reliable.

I kinda feel like the Air should be the entry. The current iPad Air should be the iPad. Or maybe all the entry stuff should be SE. I do agree the Air naming does seem weird especially now. I think the Air name should be kept for AirTags, AirPods and AirPort. I honestly feel like the air name might be a little more confusing than the whole Pro, Max, Ultra thing. Whatever they call it if it’s looks like the renders with the colors. I’m in.

Haha this is highly likely to be fake. If you want larger screen, Apple will want you to spend the money for the MacBook Pro. Why would Apple make this? I mean people has been asking Apple for a 15" MacBook Air and Apple never listen. I don't see why Apple would now.

Then again, if this were true, maybe it's MacBook Max? :D

Apple should follow its iPhone naming scheme for all “i” and “Air” devices.

iPhone SE, iPhone mini, iPhone, iPhone Max, iPhone Pro, iPhone Pro Max
iPad SE, iPad mini iPad (formerly Air), iPad Pro, iPad Pro Max
AppleWatch SE, AppleWatch, AppleWatch Pro (rugged)
AirPods SE, AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro Max

Mac (formerly iMac), MacMini, MacStudio, MacPro
MacBook (13”), MacBook Max (15”), MacBook Pro (14”), MacBook Pro Max (16”)
StudioDisplay (5K), StudioDisplay Pro (5.5K-6K), ProDisplay XDR (6K-8K)

MacBook Air Max or MacBook Air Pro.

According to a reliable source (frifra) :p

I don’t think most people would expect a 15-inch notebook to be called Air regardless.
I agree it sounds weird at first glance but it can be coherent.
For instance, LG has the "Gram" laptops which are focused on power efficiency, very low weight and portability they can go up to 17" and for that size they are indeed thin and light.

I'm pretty convinced what delayed this is mostly cannibalisation, manufacturers tends to equip more high end specs with bigger display size to charge more.
With apple finally considering a 6.7" non-pro iPhone, making the move for a 15" MBA makes a lot of sense.

I know many people would be very interested to have the bigger screen size for comfort without spending on few extra they don't care or would not benefit from for their own use cases.

Ditching the tapered design and adding a 15-inch option makes the “Air” name seem less fitting. Would not be surprised to see both the 13-inch and 15-inch just called “MacBook”, with the 15-inch basically assuming the role that the base model 13-inch Pro currently does (plugging the price gap between 13-inch consumer and 14-inch Pro). Also means they can keep the current Air around as an affordable option, particularly for education customers, and not have two concurrent designs called “Air”.

MacBook Air (M1) - $999

MacBook (M2, 13-inch) - $1,199/1,299
MacBook (M2, 15-inch) - $1,399/1,499

MacBook Pro (14-inch) - $1,999
MacBook Pro (16-inch) - $2,499
If they do go with this I could see them swapping that to match the iPad lineup. So the current 13" Pro gets rebranded as the 'MacBook', keeps the old design (like the base iPad) and slots in at $999. The new Air models in 13" and 15" get a new design (like the iPad Air and mini) and take over from the $1,299 and $1,499 price points, then you've got the flagship Pro models starting from $1,999 and $2,499.

Something doesn't adds up. This will be too much of a good value to be true. Apple will find a way to mess it up somehow and force us to buy the 16 MPB.

I don't care what they call it. All I know is, when it does come out I'm getting one to replace my MBA and my old 15" MBP! The old two-for-one special if you will ?

It'll be so nice to have the best of both worlds (Mx MBA and 15" MBP) in one laptop!
