I have yet to see any evidence that Apple actually made different shades of Space Grey in iOS devices.

That picture floating everywhere doesn't prove anything, those photos/renders probably use different lighting.

All Space Grey devices I've compared IRL are actually the same shade. For instance I own an iPhone 6, iPad Air and iPad Pro 9.7". All exactly the same shade IRL even though very different on Apple's website.

Edit: The Space Grey Apple Watch is actually darker, but my point stand that this comparison image is misleading.

Also, wouldn't the "slate" color of the iPhone 5 and iPad mini a better comparison? The Space Black Apple Watch uses polished stainless steel so you can't really compare that to matte anodized aluminum.

You're obviously overlooking the Space Gray Apple Watch Sport.

Apple -- keeping it serious when it comes to iPhone colors.

I would like to see the colors they had (have) for the iPod Touch ... loved their (light) blue - would be great for my iPhone.

I'd even be willing to pay a small surcharge for color choice...as long as it was reasonable. I wouldn't expect apple, or anyone else to keep that color selection available in mass quantities for people. Would be nice to have the option. The dark blue I would actually purchase.

Space gray fragmentation. But seriously Apple, get your **** together. Figure out what shade of gray you're going to call space gray. You can't just willy-nilly look at a big box of crayons and say, "This one is going to be space gray... this time".

Ive: "Here's the new space gray iPhone."

Intern: "But sir, it's a completely different color from the last space gray iPhone."

Ive: "It doesn't matter. They will buy it anyway. Besides, it's avant garde, unapologetically avant garde."

/Intern looks at orange iPhone

Intern: "But sir, it's rea-" {Ive touches finger to interns lips}

Ive: "Unapologetically."

For a company with legendary attention to detail, it's seems that the actual color of space gray is an afterthought.

This looks pretty good to me. With Antena lines running on the sides and in Black to March.
Bring this color to the MacBook Pro lineups too please

My favourite part of my iPhone 5 was that it was actually black.

I had two iPhone 5 (one was a replacement). Loved the black look, except it was criminally UNDURABLE. Both phones after a short time begun to show nasty wear. In my opinion - a total disaster in product design. Your expensive device should not look like garbage after a short use. Using a hard case made matters even worse - somehow some dust got between the phone and case and actually accelerated the degradation of the color/surface. I guess they have improved materials/coatings now, but because of this bad experience with iPhone 5, I'd be nervous to buy black Apple device again...

PS - I have the light gray "space gray" iPhone 6 and Air 2, they seem to be ok.

You're right. I looked it up and it's definitely darker than the regular Space Grey. That image that keeps circulating is still very misleading though.

What image? They did lighten the Space Gray going from the 5s to 6, but only by a shade (more like half a shade) so both were essentially dark silver. The first Space Gray iPad was darker than subsequent Space Gray iPads. The color variation is real even on iPhone and iPad, but all were essentially dark silver. The Space Gray AW Sport is significantly darker than the rest of the lineup and isn't what I'd call dark silver.

I don't see the point. Make the front a different color than black or white. People that have black front iPhones also don't have any color choices except for Space Grey. If it has to be either black or white, how about a gold iPhone with a black front instead of a white front this year?

I hope they introduce this dark grey option, but not replace it with the space grey, just give more options to the users. Especially that there is only one black (glass) iPhone available right now (compared to 3 with white glass)
we deserve a second black option!

I've always felt that the yellow gold iPhone should have a black screen and the rose gold on white. That would make it 2/2. Even though I bought Space Gray, the gold MacBook with black display looks sharp.

Edit: Someone beat me to it a couple post up lol

My Apple Watch space gray is certainly not the same color as my iPhone 6 space gray. With Apple's attention to detail, you would think all space gray would be the same.

I think they've experimented to see what works best.

It's a good point, I'm surprised as well.

Im cool with a darker Space Gray, but what I really want is a stainless steel body in Space Black with a sapphire screen just like my watch. I had a Watch Sport first, and upgraded to Space Black steel and it really is top notch. It just feels like a more solid piece and that finish is amazing. Fingers crossed that's the iPhone Pro we heard rumors about a few days ago!
