Over the past year my doctor's office has dropped the iPad and they are now using MSFT Surface tablets. At my last visit I asked her about the change because last year they were all toting brand new iPads. She said it was their consensus that the iPad ended up being more a time waster and did not improve efficiency. Apparently there was overlap between capturing data on her iPad and then doing similar work like filing prescriptions on her laptop. The Surface handles all tasks in one device.

If this "pro" iPad is just a bigger screen and faster processor, I don't think it will make much headway in enterprise or education where the limitations of iOS and the lack of handwriting input are glaringly apparent.

Is there another semi-handheld tablet on the market of this size? If not, at least people won't be able to complain that they're not trying anything new..

Yes it's been done already. But that shouldn't matter to Apple. It hasn't been on iOS or OSX, and Apple is the only place to get those OSes. As for not being new/first... that only matters to fanboi's.

Personally I would love a tablet that could push both OSes. Give it something like Continuum and I wouldn't even care about the size. (I understand this is a pipe dream)

I can't imagine that this will reverse the declining iPad sales. Most people don't want to be carrying this around. It will be in the workplace or classrooms. I can't see sitting on the train with this thing.

They need a wow factor and its not just slapping a 12" screen on it. There needs to be a "special" mac stylus or run OS X and have USB ports for file transfers.

That's funny! You said a USB for files transfers. Hilarious! This is apple we're talking about.

Does anyone else feel that if this iPad Pro doesn't have a fusion of iOS+OSX operating system it's a no-go? I don't really see the purpose if an "iPad Pro" running on iOS...

I've been waiting for a REAL Apple tablet for quite some time now.

i know apple doesn't like to include them but to be a workhorse for business it is necessary. No one is going to trust iCloud for sensitive information and right now there is a lack of reliable Lighting to USB drives that are reasonably priced.

As the new video shows i think we will see USB C in this.

iPad pro will sell to a tiny market in comparison to the main market. and it will not reinvigorate iPad sales UNLESS it changes iOS significantly into a much more well rounded and advance OS.

iOS as it is works good for a one handed device in the hand in casual use but to use instead of a laptop.. (computer).. its still too much of an infant.

no file system (Finder App is a must)
no decent multi tasking / desktop feel (MS is ahead here, in the right direction)

no decent use for that screen real estate.

just a big iPod touch. that just about worked when it first came out, but that proposition fails to offer much of Anything compared to our larger iPhones, and more Portable and longer lasting Laptops. iPad is actually worse than both now.

I really hope that Apple can make this more than just a "larger iPad".

i've purchased 4 iPads and gave em all away because they just haven't lived up to what I want.

They're still absolutely the BEST tablet in the market. the iOS experience however is severely lacking.

I have a few desktop based Applications that need to run for me to be remotely productive.

In the meantime, I'll continue using my Surface pro 2 till Apple can bring me the ability to run Desktop App's, multi-window.

Such a shame that iOS just hasn't kept up with the hardware that runs under it.

The software is really going to make the difference here. Just scaling up iOS again doesn't seem to be much value. Allowing multiple apps to run together or a new class of the usual apps with improved functionality is going to be key.

I really hope Apple is attacking the declining tablet market from all sides with this one. This better not just be a blown-up iPad with slightly better specs. This thing needs a robust and flawless stylus, extreme multitasking, healthy amount of RAM, fast CPU, and, in my opinion, OS X. But Apple would never do it. But if there was some kind of iOS-OS X hybrid, then maybe that would do. This is all necessary if Apple is to have even a fighting chance against other exceptional tablets like the Surface or Yoga.

Maybe if Apple adds;

1. A more capable iOS
2. USB-C port
3. Force Touch
4. built-in stylus support
5. their own version of Continuum (when in tablet mode, apps are touch-enabled, when you attach a KB / mouse, apps go into UXKit mode)

Maybe this is what the MB should have been.

OSX or bust. i'll have one of my first real problems with an apple release if it doesn't run their full OS. unless iOS9 becomes a 100% equally robust OS on par with yosemite (which is not the rumored intent thus far).

it will be a huge mistake not to cater to the business/creative pros who are, apparently, the only ones who feel there will be a great use for this 13" pad. i mean, this group is substantial, but clearly a minority in the apple ecosystem. to not cater directly to them with this thing would be kind of ridiculous.

Here's what Apple should do with the iPad Pro. Make a good 1st party detachable keyboard. Implement dual boot. When it is being used as a tablet it will default to iOS. If it detects that the keyboard is attached it will boot into OS X; touch would thus be disabled while in OS X mode. This thing would completely destroy every other tablet out there including the Surface. A guy can dream...

Dare to dream.

Screen specs will largely drive my decision as to upgrade to this from my iPad mini. I still love reading on an iPad prior to bed, but I hate the color gamut on the mini. I browse a lot of photography websites and post my own work, I'd love if this had a screen with wow factor like the Retina MacBook Pro.

What is "PRO" about an iPad when it runs iOS? There's no professional use with the iPad other than reading movie scripts, sampling storyboards, and playing music.

Apple is clueless - look at the surface pro 3 and the upcoming sp4 - I really hope sp4 will destroy apple's iPad market share so they can finally look at what people really want (tablet hybrid).

I really hope this is evidence of upgrades coming to iOS. I can't imagine much of a market for a giant iPad as limited as it is.

I can imagine it quite well...

My son, the graphics illustrator, can't wait to get his hands on the iPad Pro. He says it will allow him the mobility he needs to do his work on the move. Sidewalk artistry, including caricatures, will be so much easier to do away from the desktop iMac. He also hopes to see an innovative pen launched with the Pro. I'll stick with my iPad 3.
