I don’t understand all the hatred for the lens bumps? Most cases now have a ridge around the lenses to protect them, and if you want better pics the sensor and optics need space. I personally don’t care how big it is, the higher the better imo, plus, when I first got my 14 pro max I didn’t have a case, and the camera bump saved the phone a few times from slipping out of my hands!
Looking at Samsungs far superior cameras and they don’t have an ass like my iPhone. And they are superior….. by a mile.

So I guess an iPhone 7 all over again? Maintaining the current form factor with subtle tweaks here and there and a focus on camera improvements. It feels like we’re on a 4-year track in terms of design changes.

Next year we’re probably gonna have an 8/X event — an iterative update with top-of-the-line phone that defines the next generation’s design language.
Defines the same phone we’ve been paying for since the 12… 😂 with “ MINIOR “ tweaks. We’re getting more of the same. And you all know it.

Thank GOD. The size of the bezels on the current iPhone & iPad make them virtually unusable.

The thinner bezels look really nice.

Some amount of bezel serves a function. Some of us put cases on our too-fragile i-devices to compensate for their fragility design flaw. The smaller bezels go, the less the overlap protection and larger the case needs to be. Not a win/win, and very short-sighted non-big-picture thinking.

I know these are just renderings, but what is the point of a thinner phone if you are going to have a thick camera bump? I'm not implying that the camera has to be flush, but I'm sure the hardware engineers would love that extra space when trying to cram everything into the phone.

That's why I think the iPhone 15 models may be thicker than people think. Modern stainless steel and titanium alloys may allow this to happen. A thicker phone would better accommodate the periscope camera and would also allow the introduction of vapor chamber cooling for the A16 or A17 SoC itself.

Time to add a wedge design to integrate the growing camera bumps. Think old calculators. It would help with viewing when set down as well.

I get that top left is the default iPhone camera placement but ever since iPhone 11 the phone started to become really unbalanced. Bigger cameras are current state of tech, it's fine I guess, but can't it be better looking...?

Edit; okay messing around with the layout reveals that changing anything will look out of place immediately. Apple you'll have to figure it out yourself :). Some sort of horizontal iPhone X pill shape doesn't seem too bad to me though;

For those that are still in doubt. 9to5mac had posted a nicely written article. It will be revolutionary since the iPhone X.

You will be proven wrong in the end. If you don't see the potential of foldables then that is your issue. The category is already growing year over year.
3DTVs grew year over year as well. Then everyone realized they are dumb and have too many drawbacks. Same thing will happen with foldables. You will be proven wrong in the end.

I keep telling myself I don't need to upgrade my 14PM, then I see this...I guess I'll be voting with my wallet this Fall...

The camera updates primarily drive my upgrade decisions. I assume they will thicken the phone slightly as they have done before. Either way, I'll update if we get 4x optical zoom or better and live with the bump. Been waiting for 4x for a while!

Currently have an X, and would have been putting off upgrading or a while. Finally decided to get a 15 Pro this coming year, but if that's the actual camera bump, hell no. I've handled the 14 Pro a bit and reluctantly came to terms with its camera bump, but that is the very limit of acceptable. I'll sooner get a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, or S24 or whatever the latest and greatest will be this fall.

Urgh that camera bump is disgusting.

I hate cases, but have an Otterbox Symmetry on my X because it makes the phone sit flush. Also have an Otterbox Symmetry on my work provided 12 for the same reason. Defeats the point if even the case has a camera bump.

Oh I know, I have a S20fe that came out in 2020 and it takes better pics than my 14 pro max does once the sun goes down. Not sure how they pulled it off in a mid range phone. With gcam it’s a beast, murders the iPhone.

As far as camera bumps though it may seem that way because Apple chose to make each lens have its own bump, instead of the entire camera lens area being raised like most other phones have.

I wish they’d do something like that, the triple triangle shaped lens array is pretty old now anyways. Just not sure why the lenses on the iPhone seem to stick out further than others. Using a periscope lens for the “zoom” lens should allow it to sit flush, not sure what they could do with the wide and ultra wide lenses though. Anyways it doesn’t bother me, I just want them to improve the pictures on the iPhone because yes the Pixel and Galaxy’s both have them beat. They are even falling behind in video quality now, the Pixel is better than the iPhone 14 pros at night by a noticeable amount.
