I guess this will also act as a wireless router? Given 1) a large piece of electronics just for Siri sounds useless, 2) they stopped selling their airport routers

goes without saying that siri needs to be much improved for it to be worth it. I will buy it if it is.

If it's the dream device that some people here is talking about and reasonably priced I'm even interested without a working Siri behind it. Mesh network, wifi ap, airplay speaker, time machine, apple tv replacement. Yes to it all but highly unlikely.

I'll be happy if she just knows my devices and can control them!

If Apple created some wireless voice controlled speakers that were better quality and more affordable than Sonos, they would have a huge hit on their hands. While they have the talent and resources to do it, I doubt they will.

Wonder if this will allow those of that like the idea of Sonos but won't buy one since its support is wishy washy for MY needs, a viable alternative.

And what happens if they come out with satellite speaker only (by Beats)

interesting times.

Curious to know what your requirements are, that the SONOS system can't fulfil. I'm not doubting you but just surprised as I couldn't believe how versatile the SONOS is. I only have a Play:One but it's a tremendous device.

As an aside, I just find the 'always listening' thing a bit too creepy. I've gone as far as SONOS for home audio, but just not sure I've got the enthusiasm for one of these assistant devices just yet.

Raising my son with our google home is so much fun... sings ABC's, makes Animal Sounds, Plays nursery rhymes, counts to 20, etc... I built a google eco system around it and couldn't imagine my home without it. Apple should have licensed their software to TV makers a long time ago... now all the TV's are Android based and have all the key apps built in like Netflix...my ATV gets no play

I hope they improve Siri.

Siri and Apple Maps are two Apple products that I'm ehhh about. Not too fond of either.

Try the competition. Google Assistant. So much better, faster, more relevant. Apple needs to catch up and excel. I don't understand why Apple's software is still its weak point (except for their operating systems)

I've watched the comparisons and have yet to have anyone identify specifically how Google Assistant is better. I read the "Siri sucks" comments, but I notice no one ever seems to specify how the on line video demonstrations are inaccurate or spell it out, so all I have is to go with what I see and what I experience.

as usual, apple late to the product niche party but likely to do it better than most. at least if you're in the apple ecosystem already. if price is similar to echo or home, i could see myself picking one up.

Apple doing it better than Amazon with Alexa? I really want to see that.

Simple request for Siri, not only does she not get the correct movie theater, she says they are not in New York when it literally says it is lol. Cmon now.

Can't address your situation because I am not in NY, but I just asked Siri for the closest theaters to me and she came back in just a few seconds with the ten around me. I asked a friend in another city to do the same, and she got a dozen nearby her in about 4 seconds. That's why a direct head to head is most reasonable test. A brother of mine has Google Assistant and we frequently test them with the same requests. Siri is at least as accurate as Google.

I got a Google Home recently. It's a cool looking device and Google's speech interface is amazing - significantly smarter and more useful than Siri in many ways.

Unfortunately as a speaker, it totally sucks. The sound quality is awful - worse than the cheap £30 Bluetooth speaker I was replacing. It can go loud and fill a room, but its all quantity over quality. Muddy, lifeless, muffled, boomy, washed-out, bad sound.

Hopefully, Apple will get the sound quality right with their attempt. It's the most important thing in a speaker!

I want to love Siri, but I don't understand why my perfectly fine Nest (which I bought at the Apple Store) and 1st gen Hue lights don't work with HomeKit/Siri. The Google Assistant app on the iPhone has absolutely no issues controlling these.

So we don't even know yet if such a product even exists.

But apparently it has better sound quality than other devices currently on the market?

Riiiiiiiiight.....

Yours must be faulty because mine is fantastic as a bluetooth speaker, makes my Anker SoundCore sound garbage (it was about £30).

The winner gets a dressing down by none other than the famous Joe Kernen himself.
*all the usual caveats apply.
[doublepost=1496310577][/doublepost]Also, what are the chances it looks like a 1963 Braun radio?

Here's your choice then.

A much superior system with a crap speaker for decent money.

A much inferior system with a top end quality speaker for a LOT of money.

Why don't Apple just team with Google and make a great speaker with great AI for ... a LOT of money.

Dammit. Apple had the last say on its final price, there readers.

c!

And it's really true unless it is has some killer feature. I'm already invested in the Google ecosystem with my Google home, Shield TV. I use iPad and iPhone but my taskbar on those are all Google apps now. Apple would really have to build in some killer feature that neither Google nor Amazon have in theirs to make me think about switching.
