I can't imagine how with all of the programmers that apple has and the fact that iOS 8 has been in development for months now they cannot get this feature ready for even a beta version at WWDC.

If this true I think apple needs to get it in to iOS 8 by beta 3 or 4. This way the developers will actually have time to optimize for it.

I would rather wait and see if they do announce it or they don't announce it. I have grown not to trust what analysts or those who work for newspapers have to say. Especailly about Apple.

Maybe they don't want a repeat of some of the things we saw with iOS 7 where clearly the early betas were not ready for prime time. If it's not ready then don't show it off yet.

Why would it work only on the Air and not the Mini when they are essentially the same machine with different screen sizes? Hope this isn't a signal that Bigger and Biggest iPhones will have exclusive features.

Gotta save something for next year.

well this is embarassing

How is this embarrassing. This is a rumor not from apple. Do not think that everything on mac Rumors is true. Notice how it is titled Rumored split screen multitasking feature for iOS 8 not ready for WWDC preview.

This is such a bullcrap article.

Of course there's gonna be a "rumor" about something being delayed. Like the 5.5" iPhone production that got delayed, even though NOTHING is confirmed, literally nothing. I'm done with these so called rumors, they lower everyone's expectations. And the LG G3 is looking pretty damn nice.

Meh, this was the iOS 8 feature I was looking forward the most :( I expect another boring and ugly update, then.

Why not? They cost more. The Note has additional features other Samsung phones don't. Only makes sense to take advantage of the larger display and (slightly) more powerful internals.

I love my rMini and the presence of split screen on the Air doesn't make me want it any more than an upgraded rMini.

I, for one, would welcome additional features that justify the $100 price difference aside from screen size (I think the quality issue will even out this go around). Also hoping they give the 5.5" iPhone some exclusive features because I'm betting it will cost an extra hundy as well.

Think its a little late for that signature of yours.....

Eh? iOS 8.1?

Exactly - they could announce it at WWDC (ala CarPlay) but not have it ready to show until the Fall event for release with 8.1. Makes plenty of sense to me.

Gotta save something for next year.

Care to name any current software features that the Air has but the mini doesn't? If it doesn't come to the mini or iPhone perhaps it's because the user experience is crap on smaller displays?

Apple can copy competitors a bit, after all they have copied.

Apple's no doubt been sitting on the design for this, and has known how they would implement it for some time. They were probably waiting for sufficiently fast, energy efficient processors, coupled with the right charge density power cells to make the usability right.

I haven't used multitasking on other devices - would users who have deem it as a 'killer feature'?

It's handy.

Do you like more than one window on your computer? Why?
Do you like more than one program running at one time on your computer? Why?

A very simple example: the other day I was in a situation where I wanted to see a list of addresses and map them at the same time. Split screen would be ideal. Instead, I have to go through steps of clicking the home button, opening the maps app and pasting an address, THEN, clicking the home button, opening the list app and seeing the list, THEN (repeat over and over).

Another day, I wanted an editable note on screen with a browser window. Same issue.

Yes, it's just a few steps to hop from one app to another but there's more utility (and user efficiency) in side-by-side for those situations where you would like 2 separate apps on screen at once.

Is that a "killer" feature? I don't know. But I'd certainly like to have such a feature.

Where have you been? Doesn't apple do this all the time with everything?

Why has this article chosen to ignore the fact Samsung have had the split screen feature for a couple of years now, and instead has focused on Microsoft advertising the feature to which I guess they are refering to the Pro version of the Surface?

This is honestly something that wouldn't have happened under Steve. That's the only time I'll say it -- I promise. But honestly... :(:(:(
Huh? It's not like they've cancelled a promised feature. It's neither cancelled nor was ever promised.

Am I missing something here? Again, the feature hasn't been cancelled. Surely this isn't the first time a company is previewing a feature incomplete product?
