Not sure why the new OS is required, MMS works fine here in the UK

A new OS is not required for MMS to be enabled, but a new carrier file would be. So my guess is Apple will just push them both at the same time instead of doing them separately.

They better do it before summer ends of there are going to be a lot of really pissed of people.

This might be 100% speculation, but its not that bad of a guess - the "end of summer" is approaching rapidly. If AT&T is going to deliver on time then they only have about two and a half weeks left.

Bout time, this is ridiculous. Every other country has had MMS since June... seriously, screw AT&T...

It seriously puzzles me why Apple would even associate with (IMO) the worst carrier known to man. They rape your wallets, jip you of key features, and all together just suck royal arse.:mad::mad:

its amazing how they've gotten us to want somethin we all took for granted on crap cellphones for years so badly. i mean i want this now more than any app:rolleyes:

Geee.... don't they know that's the beginning of autumn, not the end of summer:rolleyes: Sept. 21, 2009 = last day of summer.

AT&T you are not smarter than a fifth grader. :p

Please don't raise my rates higher for the last comment:rolleyes:

They're already editing your account to say you called "411" 8,340 times today.

Enjoy your next bill.

I bet I know why.

I bet that the firmware 3.1 will resize MMS images if you're using ATT, and that's why they're waiting - so instead of a big beautiful picture being sent like on most carriers, you'll get a pixelated little thumbnail. Thanks ATT.

All I know is that every AT&T source I have seen on these forums has ended up knowing nothing. The simple fact that it has taken AT&T almost 3 months already since the release of the 3.0 software to simply enable mms, shows how much of a horrible provider AT&T has been for it's iPhone customers. If only Apple would look past the money and realize how what a complete disaster AT&T has been.

Tethering???

EDIT: looks like no tethering yet (press release), anyone know if they are diabling tethering completely in 3.1?

Say what you want about AT&T (and I agree with most of it) but at least they don't impose their own crappy interface on devices

Did they give a reason why MMS was never enabled?

"We know many of our iPhone customers are eager for an update on our rollout schedule for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS). We’ve been working for the past several months to prepare our systems and network to ensure the best possible experience with MMS when it launches – and that launch date is: September 25 for iPhone 3G and 3GS customers. MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day.

We know that iPhone users will embrace MMS. The unique capabilities and high usage of the iPhone’s multimedia capabilities required us to work on our network MMS architecture to carry the expected record volumes of MMS traffic and ensure an excellent experience from Day One. We appreciate your patience as we work toward that end.

We’re riding the leading edge of smartphone growth that’s resulted in an explosion of traffic over the AT&T network. Wireless use on our network has grown an average of 350 percent year-over-year for the past two years, and is projected to continue at a rapid pace in 2009 and beyond. The volume of smartphone data traffic the AT&T network is handling is unmatched in the wireless industry. We want you to know that we’re working relentlessly to innovate and invest in our network to anticipate this growth in usage and to stay ahead of the anticipated growth in data demand, new devices and applications for years to come.

We thank you for your business and look forward to keeping you updated on our initiatives."
