Expect ML to be released in conjunction with a new MBP or iMac. I don't think Apple would release updated hardware, then, 1 month later, release a new OS. It doesn't make much sense. Its much more attractive to sell new hardware with a new OS preloaded. Sadly.

Also, note that ML is "arriving this summer." Apple doesn't say when specifically because it restricts them to a release date. This way, Apple has more leeway and can arrange a release to occur in the most sensible way, both in a business sense and a marketing sense. My guess is the new OS is finished and they are waiting on Intel so that they can release an "all new" product for sometime in summer - which happens to be so vague that it could be in early June to Late August. In consumer driven business its all about setting yourself up for a plan B and a plan C without anyone ever knowing.

Huh? Were you not here last year with the last iMac refresh in May 2011? I remember it like it was yesterday because I was in the market for the new iMac and everyone was salivating for the summer refresh. There was speculation that the new iMac wouldn't hit until OS X Lion came out (which eventually hit in July 2011) but that didn't stop them from releasing it in May. Even worse, those who bought the refresh in May weren't eligible for the free upgrade to Lion since they were two months out (those who bought it in June got the free upgrade).

Apple doesn't delay hardware based on software. It makes no sense waiting for newly released components to sit in a warehouse for two months and waste time becoming obsolete just so they can time it with an OS release.

New hardware with Mountain Lion this summer. Sounds like a plan!

Hardware typically refreshes 2-3 Months before the new OS drops.
They don't want to risk people not buying because their productive software isn't yet updated to the newest of the new OS. Even if the model ships with Lion for one day then you'll always be able to get it to run Lion.

Might have changed with the yearly updates. Sure these machines might get free update codes. Would have thought to the current long wait for updates it was more important for new update to ship as Lion machinary.

Gatcha. I wasn't in the market, nor was I paying as much attention as I am now. Thanks for the deets

HP Z1? How much does that thing weigh?

Not true! Take a look at the HP Z1...

I'm impressed, for a PC anyway. If I was a PC guy, I would be looking closer at the HP Z1. After watching the video though "The Making Of" the first question that came to my mind was, gosh, how much does that thing weigh? Surprisingly enough, the spec sheet fails to mention the weight (go figure) they must accidentally forgot to mention it. But after googling it, I found that it weighs 46 pounds which is about 16 pounds heaver than the 27" iMac. Weight is obviously is not one of it's best selling points. It's a good thing they used so much plastic, otherwise, it would really weigh a lot!

What difference does it make if one 27" all-in-one desktop weighs 16 lbs more than another?

It sits on your frakking desk! You don't carry it around!

By that logic a Mac Pro and Apple display must be complete junk, since they weigh 33.2 lbs more than a Imac!

So basically the same weight as an eMac. Never had much trouble carrying those a round. If anything the HP we be easier as the weight will be close the the body unlike your average CRT display where the centre of gravity was out near your toes.

I totally agree with this statement. Now if they could just get aesthetics to directly influence performance, and we got something. Personally, my beastly Antec 1200 is the best performing case I've ever found. But god, is it ugly.

The Antec 1200 is definitely a beast. I currently have a HAF X case I'm using for my Hackintosh and it excels in features but it's ugly as a mother.

----------

A lot of people who know the specs that well, or well enough, are competent enough to know how to take an existing PC with those specs and install OS X on it anyway, a la hackintosh.

True. It's just.. it'd be nice if there was an easier way. A more affordable way to get a Mac. There has to be an official middle-ground imho -- lord knows AAPL can afford it. :p

I like my Macbook Pro. But I sold my 2011 iMac and built my own PC with the money I got from it. It is a lot more powerful, and upgradeable, as desktop computers should be. I feel like the iMac is a large notebook, and will continue that way. Before all the haters vote this down, think about this in regards to the iMac: The hard drive is not user replaceable, and besides the RAM, nothing is replaceable or upgradeable. So, here is my huge "no thanks" to Apple and the iMac.

I use an iMac at home and I'm not a certified apple professional but I managed to upgrade my iMac hard drive without any problems. Does that blow your mind?

For those with iMacs sporting Sandy bridge processors, have you read anything regarding the Ivy bridge that makes you want to upgrade when the refresh takes place?

I know what the **** I'm talking about.

Dude... I know you have a lot of opinions and correcting people when they're wrong is fine, but tone it down a bit.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but not all of it and that is mainly because everyone has different opinions that aren't wrong, they're just different.

No need to ridicule people. Go ahead and correct them, but have some class.

Chill bro.

I don't have a reason to get a new Mac. My mid 2007 iMac is still performing flawlessly! If I remember correctly, the mid '07 were the first aluminum Macs. Im still very happy with it and its used everyday. I probably just jinxed myself.... :)

...sigh...

It's a bit disheartening to think that this was the last semi-substantial iMac rumor.

I only ridicule people who insist that they know what they're talking about when they don't. Otherwise I politely correct them; that's how I roll, man. Sorry if you don't understand that.

I don't aim to disprove opinions; I aim to disprove facts. I'd like to politely remind you and others of that distinction.

Fair enough. Carry on and keep calm :p haha

When this rumor first dropped I thought it was complete BS. It's really looking like its going to turn out true though.
