That is pretty much what the AT&T rep said. It only seems to work with your finger and no inanimate objects.

No, the rep said it was activated by Heat. The argument was not of fingers vs. pencil erasers, it was about the rep insisting that it recognized heat when in fact it has absolutely nothing to do with heat, rather electrical conduction.

the ATT rep at my store was convinced it was heat too

There are going to be an awful lot of red faces round here when, in June/July this year, Apple don't bring out a new iPhone :D

Why would they need new iphones to go through the training? current iphone with 3.0 firmware is plenty to get trained on.

I just got off the phone and I just asked them a few questions about this new iPhone that is rumored to come out. She actually "admitted" to being a "huge Apple iPhone fan" and "a huge Apple geek". I asked her if she heard about it and said with 99.999% confidence that there won't be a new iPhone as we are all speculating. She said that AT&T reps go through training with the phones and usually know about it months in advance. According her as well, she said she found out about the 3G iPhone being released last year around January and then it got heavy around March.

Now I know the general conception is that we know more than the reps do but it appears that she knew what's going on. She did say that the new iPhone would be nano if it were anything. Any validity to this statement and can any AT&T reps vouch this? Perhaps my noobness is the cause for being gullible.

wow you must have a lot of free time

why don't you stop bothering people with rumor questions and let them work :apple:

there will be a new iphone dont worry

no store or customer service rep at at&t will know what is coming out until stevie announces it to everyone, they are always kept in the dark

not saying that the reps arent partially retarded, but they are trained that it is heat, so its at&t corporate who are the real brainiacs feeding that to them.

I was in the AT&T store the other day buying some headphones and asked about a new iphone in June---both reps standing there looked like they had never heard of this idea before.

Not really shocking though, not really the best and brightest there.

Proof of a new iphone in June is where exactly?

....but could there be ANY merit when it comes to this?

I've talked with some of the higher ups in the Sales department and they have absolutely no idea of announcements before they happen. Spoke with one on the day of 3.0's preview event, he was trying to understand all of it with me. Trust me, Apple employees and, most definitely, AT&T employees have NO IDEA what is coming out anywhere near launch.

Also, these AT&T employees don't need to know how to use the new iPhone on the week of the launch. The only thing they need to know how to do is swipe a credit card, because they'll be selling like hotcakes. They won't have time to do demos. I know that sounds arrogant, but its true.

I was in an at&t store last week, Newport beach,ca and the store manager said there is a new iPhone coming out in the summer, but he did not have an exac date.

I want to believe! :D

Only a selected department in Apple as well as AT&T have knowledge of the new iPhones. The phones aren't dropped on our laps to test on the day of the launch. They are given to us months prior to the launch for testing. Even more, there are more than one version of the prototypes out in the labs.

The people that speak of the new iPhone in the Sales Dept, especially at AT&T probably know someone or simply adding to the rumor.

Remember, AT&T has to test the new phones.

2 Versions + Prototypes

Oh ok, lol

Well, as many people here that would call BS, I say it makes sense. Like you said, the phones wouldn't just BE THERE dropped in your face on launch day, knowing absolutley nothing about new features and so on.

Yes or No question for you then. 3.2mp/5mp camera in the next one?

Shiller stated a few months back that Apple enjoys their product cycles, and June/July is the iPhone's time.

There are far too many rumors with evidence about Video Recording, Camera Sizes, orders for Flash Memory, and other information for there not to be a phone coming in June/July.

I, as I imagine many do expect an announcement at WWDC.

these idiots know nothing. why do we get so many of these threads?

I'm glad someone else said it

oh you newbies,
This is why we need a min post limit for "New Iphone rumors/information threads" :D

i guess it's the nature of these forums >_<

That is pretty much what the AT&T rep said. It only seems to work with your finger and no inanimate objects.
But it's false to say that the iPhone works with the HEAT of your finger, that's simply not true. Your finger works with the iPhone because it conducts electricity. Heat has absolutely nothing to do with it.

6 months ago that rep worked at Circuit City. Reps know as much about Apple's future plans as they do about future lotto numbers.
