We need Apple TV PRO. For those who watch TV at professional level.

Jokes aside - can you imagine M1 processor (or A14X) in this size format? It would be able to match PS4.
i am a little more ambitious, and would like an Apple TV pro that matches the PlayStation 5/Xbox series x in performance. If that would take an additional 1 or 2 years to develop from now, I would not mind. Apple has to bring a challenger in the console market the next 2 years, that is on par with the ps5. Not PlayStation 4 level. They would still lag behind one gen.

I’m an odd duck I guess, Once I got used to the Apple Remote I grew a dislike for other remotes. But I did add a SideClick to add additional buttons and bulk.

That said, if the aTV has a new remote that’s all the convincing I’ll need to give my wife to buy an updated aTV :) she hates the apple remote.

as for gaming controllers, just continue improving full support for PS/XB Controllers (maybe even Wii(u) controllers) would be great. I don’t know that we need more controllers around the house and the console makers have really made pretty great controllers already.

I'll quadriple, quintuple, megatuple the hope for an updated remote.

Maybe Apple will stop including the remote in the box?

My only gripe with the Apple TV remote is it's small and tends to get hidden in couch cushions, etc.

Its usability is just fine IMO. Just like using an iPhone for the first time, I found it did take a little while to figure out how to use it properly. If it's too sensitive you can also dial that back in settings which also helps. I wonder how many people do that or just give up.

Or just use an iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch as the remote.

Or use any other remote you have lying around. My 15 year old Panasonic plasma actually worked out of the box with my Apple TV. The up/down/left/right buttons and select buttons work perfectly and the return button functions as the menu button does. I don't think that's an accident. However after using both for awhile, the chunky buttons ended up way slower to navigate.

Typing/input still is terrible though but that's universally bad across all these devices. At least Apple provides a prompt to use your iDevice to handle it.

Keep in mind, the article is talking about a gaming-focused ATV, and the GPU performance would play a big part in that:

For GPU performance, the A10X is about on par with the A12 in the benchmarks. So, benchmarks alone show that the A12 isn't really a decent upgraded over the A10X when it comes to graphical performance.

Also, on MR developers have commented that the A10X with its 12 GPU cores actually has higher sustained real world GPU performance than the newer A12 with the 4 GPU cores.

actually with metal A10X gives better scores than A12 so I wouldn’t go far as to say on par with benchmarks

no but then don’t forget that one big difference is A12 is Apple designed unlike the A10X’s one (though I think Apple tweaked/customized the GPU with the A10 so I think the same for A10X too)

Ummmm A12 Bionic is faster in single and multicore performance than A10X. A11 Bionic is on par with A10X at least for multicore

Yeah, it depends on the benchmarks used, as many have the A12 a little higher than the A10X, but real world performance, which often differs from straight up benchmarks, the A10X out performs the A12 for graphic intensive tasks.

Since the new Apple TV rumors always seem to mention Apple's new focus on gaming, and Apple wanting higher performing HW for gaming, I just don't think that the A12 would be a suitable upgrade to the A10X.

Ive been hearing A12Z and A14X rather than A12

Spatial audio is on my wish list. I think it's harder to pull off given that the ATV is not necessarily positioned where the display is -- but I think Apple can figure it out.
Just use a tv with folby atmos and you have better spatial audio already on the current apple tv

I have only had the remote for a few weeks but no major issues with it at all. I use Siri for searches rather than typing and it’s been great.

Some of the Apple Arcade games I’ve tried with the remote are a bit tricky as I sometimes hit the Siri button instead of the play button — I haven’t bought a controller yet.

In his Fully Charged newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman today briefly reiterated that Apple plans to release a new Apple TV with a stronger gaming focus, an updated remote, and a new processor at some point next year.

Gurman has previously indicated that Apple is working on a new remote with Find My-like capabilities, which would make it easier to find when misplaced. As part of the gaming focus, there have also been rumors that Apple may introduce a dedicated gaming controller for the Apple TV, but it remains unclear what it would look like.

Earlier this year, an anonymous leaker known as "Fudge" on Twitter indicated that Apple has prototyped new Apple TV models with variants of the A12 and A14 chips for faster performance; if true, it's unclear if Apple will ultimately settle on one chip or release two different models. Fudge added that Apple is planning to bring console-quality games to its Apple Arcade service that may not work with existing Apple TV models.

The new Apple TV is also rumored to have higher 64GB and 128GB storage capacity options, compared to 32GB and 64GB for the current Apple TV 4K model.

All of these potential features have been rumored several times by now, and the Apple TV 4K was released over three years ago, so odds are looking good for a new Apple TV next year. Keep an eye on our Apple TV roundup linked below for the latest rumors.

How about some FaceTime on this box!

Yeah I’m not doing that. I was talking about spatial audio supporting Apple headphones which I already bought — versus replacing a bunch of my gear.

I never really understand why people want to pay that price for an Apple TV.

I have one!

I also bought a Roku for a test, and I like it about the same, but it’s like 1/3 of the price.

I get that there is some use cases where the ATV is better, but I can’t imagine all those buyers are indeed in those specific use case.

Anyways, if they can change this stupid remote, they will make the product better.

Requesting Apple TV 8K 🙃
8K yeah if you can afford it lol. Imagine what price would Apple TV would go if it supported 8K when there is only Samsung that is selling a 8K TV and only on their website. Yes I know Xbox One Series X|S supports 8K gamings if I am not mistaken but still not much 8K to even waste money on.

4K Blu-Ray are barely making the same selling as just Blu-Rays and 4K Blu-Ray library isn't much but has gotten bigger since 4K was available everywhere in the market. At the current moment with the pandemic and economy I say 8K in 2 years from now.

first of all it’s not just Samsung which is selling 8K TV’s and secondly they are not only selling it on they’re website, I see they’re 8K TV’s at some Aussie Retail stores too

If apple includes a hdmi 2.1 connection, it will be ready for 8k though.

Id imagine most two channel people only have their own dacs and don't use an appletv though. Not for music. A receiver is mainly the thing an appletv is meant for. Be it a movie/media device.
Its still easy to use a separate amp with a good receiver with pre outs for your higher end two channel setup. But that still uses hdmi.
Yes, and for some inecplicable reason most quality stereo dacs don't support HDMI ARC. Hifi companies are so stubborn...

Here was a company years ago who said "No one wants to game on their TV set"

Now look us us with Apple TV, remote in hand, and cloud based gaming,.. Open it up to game controllers, and all of that sudden that myth is busted.. That went well :p

You can separate the audio to S/PDIF using an HDMI audio extractor. However, there will be problems with audio sync, since Apple TV does not have an audio delay setting. A projector will introduce a noticeable delay to the video, and Apple TV cannot compensate for that. The “wireless audio sync” feature does nothing to sync audio and video in a setup like this.

The Apple TV should just come with an S/PDIF output, and a manual audio delay adjustment.

Actually... you can correct audio delay on AppleTV 4K using your iPhone. Even though the support article states "Wireless audio sync", it applies to all audio connections including wired / networked.
