I’m curious to see how they handle stereo sound output. Hopefully there’s another speaker grill at the top.

I’m honestly surprised we haven’t seen more passport style foldables racing to the market before Apple. I know Samsung is rumored to have one this summer. I would have thought some would be at MWC.
OEM's like usual are just following Apple's lead.

Maybe Microsoft's offering years ago put people off.

Let's assume these CADs from Sonny are legit. Looks like an action button above the volume buttons. Which means a power/touch ID button on the top. 😳
Oh interesting - with this and the case manufacturer now I have no idea what direction we're headed!

I'm enjoying the unknown.

These are the questions about this device that I want to know:

1. What is the button situation? Considering this will be a Touch ID device, the placement of the power/wake button becomes crucial. I previously did not believe the Prosser rumor that Apple would place it on the top of the device. But Sonny Dickenson's recent CADs show what appears to be an action button and volume buttons on the right edge. Which would indeed suggest the power/wake button on the very top right.

2. Is the recent rumor of a September announcement and December release accurate? I surely hope not. I really want this device in my hands in September.

3. What is the starting price? All recent rumors seem to point to $1,999 USD, which I currently believe.

4. What is the name of the device? I'm convinced it will be Ultra. I do not believe Apple will use the word fold.

These are the questions about this device that I want to know:
5. What will the selfie cam cut outs look like on outer and inner screen? Will it just be circle or a small island, will the inner one ben in the corner, middle or a strange place like the Fold 7.

6. What will the software experience be like, switching between outer and inner screen, multitasking, app scaling, etc?

7. Will the camera plateau get the full width of the back or only partially like in some rumours?

8. Will the round off the corners on the hinge side or make them square?

Latest reports suggest Al stylus
Variable aperture camera and 5000 battery has been tested for this device
That would be huge because on the Android side of things, there’s a lot of sacrifices with going for a Foldable at a higher price. This would actually open the door for me to consider it.

The Oppo Find N6 has a stylus but it's not very integrated, you need a extra case that holds the stylus on the back and has pogo pins to charge it. And it has a creaseless screen as well. I believe this phone is the closeset analog to a future iPhone Fold we have in terms of the possible technologies included. It even has multiple waterproofing and dustproofing ratings which should mean it's possible for Apple to do all these things too. (Could all be included in Gen 1 later this year or maybe something to sweeten the pot for Gen 2?) Hope they choose to include at least this stuff in Gen 1. It's a huge differentiator for Oppo vs current foldables on the market right now and would be lame if Apple doesn't at least try to challenge the current market as Oppo has already done.
  • Creaseless Feel Folding Screen using liquid fdm printing to smoothen out the micro hills and valleys in the hinge metal that you would normally feel under your finger even if you can't see it
  • Auto-Smoothing Flex Glass This new glass folds in such a way that bends the glass in different places every time so it reduces a crease forming over time
  • Stylus on Folding Screen idk how they did this, that's kinda wild. I wonder if it's the stylus material combined with the screen material that stops it from scratching up the screen?
  • IP56: Protected against powerful water jets from any direction.
  • IP58: Protected against submersion in water at a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
  • IP59: Certified against continuous, high-temperature, and high-pressure water jets.
  • Dust Protection: The device is designed to handle everyday dust ingress.
It could be really cool to see an Apple Pencil mini to pair along with it. so then the lineup will be Apple Pencil USB C, Apple Pencil Pro, and Apple Pencil mini. It just remains to be seen how they would integrate it into the phone if at all, or if it'll just be magnetically attached. And I hope they don't mess up the multitasking with this one. It has such huge potential to upend how multitasking is done on foldables from that point onward.

Here is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.

Notice how incredibly similar in dimensions it is to the @iZac render.

Seeing this only adds to the anticipation of Apple's version. I think this is the proper form factor for a foldable.

Basically, the width of the original Pixel Fold (unfolded) but the height of the iPhone 5S. 🙂

Finally a real leak about the Wide Fold and really cool to see it is so similar to iZac’s predictions. It will be very interesting to see how well this device will do against the regular Fold 8. It will show us what users actually want.

Think its going to be a mixed bag… some will prefer the standard Fold 8 simply because they have been accustomed to that form factor (bigger screens) while others will go for the Fold 8 Wide due to the aspect ratio along with it being the new thing.

My guess if the iPhone Fold becomes a huge success.. and more users flock to the Fold 8 Wide over the regular Fold 8 (maybe a 55-45 split), then Samsung will make the Fold 8 Wide the new form factor going forward.

haha, I should start obsessively rendering a new iPhone mini in hope of manifesting it into existence.

In all seriousness though, it's good that new form factors are being explored, even if a bunch of companies are just trying to beat Apple to market with it's own idea.

I listened to the Q&A Gurman did a few days ago. Sounds like this device will be available after the 18 Pro line but not too much later. That would rule out the month of September. So we are looking at sometime between October and December of this year. I'm going to guess it will be available in either October or November.

Also he avoided answering a question about the Touch ID button placement. Either he knows and wants to report it at some point or he doesn't know.

I see the appeal of an iPad being able to fit in a pocket but I really don’t see the appeal of the device overall.

I know someone with a galaxy fold and it’s so thick. It’s like the anti-iPhone Air. The crease in the screen is incredibly distracting as well.

The Z Fold 7 is basically identical in width to a 17 Pro Max.

The folding iPhone is rumored to have barely a crease or none at all.

I’ll be curious to see what they come out with, but having moved to an Air I’m in no rush to go back to something as chunky or heavy as a PM

Now that we’ve moved into trail production we should see a lot more leaks coming soon. I’m definitely curious if Apple will have some sort of stylus. So far I’ve only seen one leaker mention an “AI stylus” but nothing since.

We should also see leaks on the software side once the iOS27 betas start coming. Front display presentation and tablet mode multitasking will make or break this thing. If it feels like Apple is artificially holding it back just to differentiate it from iPad mini, it will be very disappointing.

Some 18 Pro and Foldable dummy models.

Don’t know if it’s real, because the Foldable is not showing camera cutouts and MagSafe, while the Pro’s do have that.
