I read some outside reviews, it seems that its quite noisy and still needs some refinement. Im wondering whatever happened to Asus XG, or how come any other big brand wouldnt come out with reasonably priced product of this kind - there is quite a market for it.

So, if I were to drive my 2 Dell 3007WFP-HC, I only have the option of choosing either the Magma ExpressBox OR the ViDock Gfx, is that correct??

The Magma ExpressBox allows you to place your own graphic card, so I guess it is better than the ViDock Gfx. But it is way more expensive since $750 is not including the graphic card..

So, which one is better??

Thanks...

Im hoping some major brand is going to release something soon, because its ridiculous in this day an age to have only those 2 choices, which arent all that good.

I just found out about the new Asus XG Station... You should check it out... But, I doubt that it will be compatible with MAC...

Yeah I know about it, it only been officially released in AU so far though, and theyve been promising one since 2007.

Unibody MPB with DVI + USB = 2 x 1600 x 1200 LCDs

Okay just an update. I am running 2.4GHz UMBP (Oct 2008 build) with Apple MDP to DVI adapter driving one Dell display and a eVGA UV Plus+ MODEL UV16 driving a second Dell display.

So I have three active independent screens (the MBP at 1400 x 900, and two 20" Dells at 1600 x 1200 all at 32 bit color) in both BootCamp Windows XP and OSX 10.5.6 (using OSX drivers from DisplayLink the company that makes the USB to DVI chip set).

I don't game on this setup. However full screen video runs well on the USB/DVI screen.

As an aside, the last time that I looked, the Matrox DualHead2Go, Digital Editon, was not supported on the UMBP. I had use this device on the classic 17" MBP and enjoyed the 3200 x 1200 logical screen (the same 2 Dell displays).

The reason I am looking at the ViDock GFX and Asus XG Station is because of their capability in driving 2560 x 1600 resolution displays..

I am just shocked at how little choice consumers have at this kind of display adapter product.. If Apple were to make one for $550, I would gladly buy it from them...

My thought precisely, its just mind boggling tbh...
Most of the devices that are out there are only capable of driving 22" and below monitors ...

There are some review websites that tried it only with ATI based MBP..

I read somewhere that the graphic inside the Vidock must be the same chipset with your MBP, otherwise it won't work..

Seeing that the last 2 generations of MBP was based on Nvidia chipset, I doubt that it is going to work... Perhaps, Apple will one day release a product like this..;)

all reviews that I could find were from about a year ago when they sent out their beta product to all major sites for reviews...
two things I want interest me in particular - whether or not the fan is loud (since it was in the beta product) and reliability issue.

so something like this wouldn't work? would it just mirror the two displays?

I own a Matrox TripleHead2Go digital, it is a great bit of kit and i now find computers with 1 monitor hard to work with.

I have the EVGA UV-16. It's working great for my needs. The monitor on my DVI port is where I do my graphics work. The monitor on the USB adapter is just for email, moving files around, etc.

I have had two problems with it already since yesterday.

First, I can't calibrate the colors. I can get into the calibration utility via the Displays pane but when I make changes nothing happens.

Second, when my MacBook Pro woke up this morning the display was black. A line would occasionally flash on the screen but that was it. I tried rebooting, reconnecting the UV-16, etc. I called EVGA support and they decided that I should RMA it. When I got off the phone with them I reinstalled the driver and it has worked fine all day.

So it isn't perfect. It lags a little bit, can't adjust the colors, and I guess it doesn't always wake up right. :) If you need perfect, this isn't the way to go. For tasks that are easy on the video it's a great, inexpensive way to add another monitor.

I also decided to go with that solution, EVGA UV plus 16 usb adapter. Mine also lags a little bit and I didnt even bother to calibrate colors. I mainly use that monitor for less important tasks (email, chat, etc). Mine unfortunately burnt out after 2 weeks and I already RMA'd it. But if anyone needs a cheap solution to add another monitor, its definitely a way to go (for now...).
