Why is it so hard for you people to admit that the iPhone 4 sucks as a phone. I am as big of an apple fan as they come and waited all year to get my iPhone 4 on launch. Then I got it and I am told I can't hold my phone the way i normally do, and the even more annoying problem is the proximity sensor. Don't tell me it's just a bad phone because I went through 3 of them and finally returned it for a 3GS which is still a lot faster than my old 3G. Apple screwed up admit it

Like the others above me said... there's nothing to admit! The iPhone 4 rules, and it rules as a phone as well. I've been having a blast using mine. I've been using it all morning at work inside a control booth (with tons of electronic equipment) that's notorious for having almost no cell service, and it's been working flawlessly.

If you have a problem, either your carrier is weak in your area, or something is wrong with your phone. It's one of the two (or possibly both, but unlikely).

I know trying to convince yourself the iPhone 4 is just a big trainwreck makes you feel better about your own purchase, but it's simple not anything of the kind. They are flying off the shelves for good reason. It's an awesome device, and an awesome phone.

No, the will make better products by these trolls logging complaints with apple and taking products to the genius bar for repair, not complaining about it on the web. They aren't going to change things because people say it doesn't work, they need hard data by way of returns or repairs or feedback.

You guys don't get it.

Talking about and discussing the iPhone's problems is a good thing.

Most of you guys will buy a new iPhone again in 1 or 2 years.
This new phone won't have an antenna issue, thanks to the "trolls" and the "media", not you.

So as long as you don't mind the thousand "My bumber arrived!" threads, just bear the critique with patience.

You are the ones who profit from it.

Wrong.

What's even better than running non-stop to the genius bar?

Not buying a faulty product in the first place.

They aren't going to change things because people say it doesn't work, they need hard data by way of returns or repairs or feedback.

Wrong again.

Guess what the next iPhone definitely won't have?

An antenna issue. And that's definitely not because of you buying their phone.

Seriously, since when did peoples personal opinions become fact? Get over yourself.

Don't you know that peoples perception of an issue is as good as facts. If you believe something long enough to be true, the mind begins to get confused and can't differentiate between facts and opinion. [Sarcasm]

Statusnone88, I agree with you. Although, the only I have had with mine is the Proximity Sensor issue (which I'm a software update fix that). Phone hasn't dropped a call yet, camera takes gorgeous photos and video, the screen is really nice with no yellow tint or dust or scratches, and I dropped my phones yesterday wile I was at best buy and it did not shatter, so overall I am happy with my phone.

Couldn't disagree more with the OP's sentiment. I've owned every iPhone and would have agreed for any other model but the iP4. IMHO, this is the best phone apple has ever made. I get better reception in more places Witt WAY fewer dropped calls.

Glad you returned it. There are lots of people on the waiting list who know how to use an i4 to make phone calls and/or have decent coverage. The i4 works better as a phone for me that my 3GS did.

Get rid of that IP4 - I didnt buy one - But I will as soon as my local AT&T Store gets them in stock... :):):):):) I got time...

I really love the idea of this Iphone 4...waited a long time to get it and was very impressed for the most part...but what is the point if the actual phone is horrible. Everything else works wonderfully...but the phone keeps dropping calls and I'm not even talking about the death grip...thats a whole other issue. Just really frustrated that something that seems so great is letting me down.

1. Use some sort of case?
2. Blame your network.

Look I am not trying to get into arguments with anyone, I am upset with the iPhone 4 because of how much of an apple fan I am, and the fact that I waited outside a store to get one. But, when I cannot use the phone as a phone, I got so bothered I switched to a 3gs. Never even thinking about anything but an iPhone, because I had a 3g for 2 years and loved it. I find it hard to believe there is no problems with the iPhone 4 when I had a 3g and now a 3gs and have had 0 problems in 2 years, but I had to return my new iPhone 4 3 times and they all had the same problem. I am not a nit picker at all either. I am assuming it was the proximity sensor issue that was hanging up my calls, but the proximity issue is a huge deal that apple has pushed aside for a month now, which is why i got a 3gs. I knew there was no telling when an update, if one comes, will come with Apple. Anyway, to anyone that has an iPhone 4 and has no proximity sensor issues I am jealous. I love the iPhone 4, just wish the phone worked FOR ME. The only two things I am really missing on my new 3gs is the screen and battery life. The 3gs screen looked like utter garbge compared to my iPhone 4.

That's some pretty serious smack coming from someone who just joined a few days a go. ;) And by the way, the antennae "issue" probably never would have even been an "issue" if the trolls and press hadn't flipped out over it with obvious glee and relish.

Why is it hard to "admit"? Because it's not true. To me and the several people that I know that have them, it's a great phone. None of us have had the proximity sensor issue. The vast majority of people that have them love them.

As soon as anyone claims that they went though a bunch of iPhones or Mac Laptops etc... and they "all have the same problem", they lose all their credibility IMHO

Maybe because it doesn't. The numbers say it doesn't suck.

I'd bet you $5,000 that if people returned the iPhones for not working but didn't make a single post here, Apple still would've addressed the issue.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Glee and relish is the key. All of them sitting there salivating wringing their hands with glee and relish at the chance to knock Apple down a notch.

Even the other manufacturers couldn't resist having a dig at Apple with their ads, and that was before Apple showed that other phones can lose signal just as readily.

Are you sure it is dropping calls?

Could it be people are just hanging up on you?

+1. Apple is smart, and those returned devices do get looked at before being refurbed. Apple has very good QC standards (probably the best in the business) and if they get a bunch of returns due to some issue, it either will be corrected somehow, or the problem will be definitely history in the next version. Apple might even do a quiet "rev B" release, such as what happened with some iPods so they were not resting on the glass screen, but on a bumpy ridge a couple years back.

Without commenting on all the other posts, I will just say I agree with the OP.
It's the best ipod/handheld computer I have ever used and the worst phone I have ever used. Whether or not it's Apple fault or AT&T's, the bottom line is I was dropping >50% of the calls I made. That is unacceptable for a PHONE! So there is now one more IP4 making it's way through the system to the used/refurb/insurance replacement supplies.
It's to bad, I really liked every other aspect of the iPhone 4, so maybe the upcoming new ipods might be the ticket for me.

Are you positive it's the phone. My phone is working fine. But to be honest if I broke down into a pie chart, what functions I used the most on the iPhone, calls is probably only about 20%. Having a phone with all that other good stuff is just icing and convenient.

I compare the iPhone to Michael Jordan. How, you ask? Well, Michael Jordan wasn't really great at any one area in particular. But he was so good at so many things, that it simply made him the best. :):apple:

My iPhone 4 is good at everything that it does, including making and receiving calls. If you aren't happy, return yours while you still can for a full refund.

Mine is good as well. My personal experience is that it's a better phone than my 3GS was. I get better reception with fewer drops in my regular daily travels. I also recently spent a couple of weeks driving across the country and spent quite a lot of time on the phone. I didn't notice very many spots where I was getting bad reception, and had very few dropped calls. I use my phone a lot, so if I had reception problems, I would have returned it pretty quickly.

Doesn't work well as a phone? Lets see. I can make and recieve calls. If you have problems with that, then its your network coverage.
