No browser I've ever used has had bugs like Safari.

You must be REALLY young 🤣

The reason why WebKit and KHTML became the universal standard was because of Safari. If Apple hadn’t done this you would be seeing a terrible incompatible experience across many browsers. This is what it was like back when Internet Explorer and Firefox were the two big players.

macOS Monterey is set to be released later this year with Safari 15, with key new features including redesigned tabs, grouped tabs, automatic switching of sites from HTTP to more secure HTTPS when available, faster performance, improved security, and more. Apple also released Safari 15 for macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina last week.

Unfortunately, some customers have experienced a few issues with Safari 15, which we've highlighted in more detail below.

YouTube Bookmarking Issue

On both macOS Big Sur and the macOS Monterey beta, it appears that attempting to bookmark a YouTube page in Safari 15 results in the browser crashing.

The issue was demonstrated with a video shared by YouTube channel Krazy Wabbit. As a temporary workaround, the video notes that users can create a bookmarks folder for YouTube videos and then drag YouTube pages into the folder in the Safari sidebar.

Page Loading Issue on macOS Catalina

On macOS Catalina, some users across the Apple Support Communities, MacRumors Forums, Reddit, and Twitter have reported that some websites fail to load in Safari 15, with affected users receiving an "a problem repeatedly occurred" error message.

Affected users said that disabling JavaScript solves the problem by clicking on Safari in the macOS menu bar > Preferences… > Security and unchecking the Enable JavaScript box, but this is not an ideal solution. Fortunately, it appears that users can permanently address the issue by reinstalling Safari 15 with a package from Apple's servers. (Note that this update is only for users on macOS Catalina and it should not be installed on other operating system versions.)

Thanks for the download link it fixed the problem.

Am I the only one who loves the new 'compact' tab view and the top bar colour matching the content? I find it so satisfying!

I'm not young at all. Safari is a steaming pile.

Safari 15.0 (16612.1.29.41.4, 16612) on macOS 11.6 (20G165) Big Sur does not save properly web pages as ".webarchive" files, since it changes their names and replaces them by weird ones. No problem with previous versions of Safari.

Not seeing any of the above problems on my side. All these three work for me.

Indeed I figured out that in order for bookmarks to save the last folder used and to have an option to change it's name - share button -> "Add Bookmark" command must be used.

I just tried to use "..." menu on the tab itself and selected "Bookmark" -> this was website is simply stored at whatever folder is selected without option to change the name while saving...

Managed to figure out the place where mouse should be pointed to drag the tabs (closer to the middle). And somehow it just works almost every time now anyway.

So, these 3 "issues" are non issues now:)

I cannot stand how they have ruined the Bookmark operation, Clunky, impractical, just awful

Catalina with Safari 15 and have been plagued by the error "Problem Repeatedly Occurred Loading Webpage" error. Was getting progressively worse. Java Script on/off was semi fix but not reliable.

Used your link to re-install Safari and things appear to be back to normal! THANKS!

FYI, this bug has been fixed with the Safari Technology Preview, so hopefully this is fixed with the next stable update.

Safari 15 keeps crashing on me when I have multiple tabs open (probably 20+). Mostly seems to happen if the tabs have video in them, although not always. Rather annoying when I'm the middle of work!

M1 MBA with 8GB RAM here, macOS 11.6.

I'm having bugs I havent seen anyone else mention. One of them is (in groups of tabs): when I click on a link in a tab, a new tab opens and instead of that link you get whatever you chose 'new tabs open with' to open. This happens a while after Safari is opened. At first when you open Safari it works fine.

Also, grouped tabs are useful.

Another bug is the tabs just disappear after some time and Safari has to be restarted. Sometimes all the Safari windows' tabs of open windows merge into one Safari window.

Safari has been crashing often too.

On the discussions on Apple support site one user said you can reinstall Safari 15 after asking Apple support and that fixes the first bug. But when I asked an advisor he said once you delete safari only way to reinstall it is to reinstall macOS.

Its been 2 weeks since this thread was started; how much longer will it take to fix this stuff?

In my case, these settings, make no difference whatsoever, they simply don't work. Im talking about 2 ones that you have to tick and untick, the collapsing and tab color. Im on Big Sure latest stable.

I also had many issues this is the only macOS where I had tons of issues. Safari crashed or did not load at all if I had more than 3 tabs open. Private window is greyed out. And if I had to safe boot I came to a window it asked for user and password. I had no access even if I am a user lol. Wifi jump on and off. Bluetooth lacking a lot. So I am back on Big sur for now. I will wait for a couple of updates. And I wish Apple would take it more easy with new OS each year. And ok now we have Monterey good fix it and stay there for the next 5 years but only make it more private and secure. Instead fancy features. And by the way Safari runs perfect on Big sur.

I think Safari 15 on Mac is going to drive a lot of users to alternate browsers.
Hi agree I used Safari as default browser, But since all these issues I switched over to Firefox and probably going to stay with Firefox. Its sad because Safari has so much potential and another that annoys me. Is their new privacy delay why does it has to run over Icloud plus but directly on the Safari there is already lack of extensions. And if they either could implemented it on Safari or at least let developers to create privacy extensions. Go to apple store most so called privacy extensions is just stupid VPNs that is well known that is has nothing to do with privacy or security. Come on Apple try harder. And stop making new macOS each year but stop at a good one and make it better and more stable. 1 more more important thing dont forget your customers who used tons of money on a Intel machine with the T2 chip gives us drivers for the T2 so we can move to another operating system or at least think about us too. Drivers for other OS and you and your M1 cult can move on. Or at at least think about us with Intel who is trapped. Fix the issues and dont be so busy with making new things all the time. But instead making the already invented OS better. I am looking for a VM hyper visor type 1 so I can linux and other operating system directly on the hardware.

This is not Apple way. I had to downgrade to Big Sur because of tap click unreliable on Monterey, now I cannot upgrade Safari since 15 is really a big disappointment. They invested time on trying to change a perfectly functional UI and screwed the basic functionality. Twice ?‍♂️. New machines are glued to this mess, so at this time we have one of the best machines on the planet with a very subpar software that cripples the user experience. An go ahead and pay 2000+ for it ?

I really hope this gets sorted out pretty soon, I would like to see those valuable costumers who ordered they machines on day one see a major return on their investment ASAP.
