honestly I like the old safari better.
too radical of a change for me with the new tab situation.

Microsoft edge browser is now much better than safari in its current form.

it's days like these when I wish APPLE would license Intel versions of macOS to Dell, Lenovo and others so we can have broader Hardware choices.

what in the world did I just watch?

Okay, this might just be me but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I upgraded to Monterey last night as well as Safari 15. For some reason, scrolling on sites while reading hurts my eyes which it didn't before upgrading. Maybe I just aged 50 years over night.

I just read download to address issue…

And installed it on Big Sur, installation was accepted and now Safari will not even open because wrong OS.

Crazy 😜 I re-booted but Software Update don’t recognise the wrong version of Safari is on the system.

Anyone know of a direct link to Safari for Big Sur? :)

I can definitely get behind that. But maybe then they should improve what’s already working instead of doing things like totally breaking iPadOS Safari sidebar in the quest for more features that aren’t really even any good…
Agreed. I think it’s really time for Apple to take a pause and fix what they have both front end and iCloud

Having said that…

I’d like then to iterate on iPad Home Screen & multitasking and external monitors. And multiple logins are a big to do item for iPad that have always been mysteriously MIA.

ON the Mac, the iPadOS/ macOS catalyst app frameworks are obviously only half done.

But apart from those - pretty big! - to do items, I’d like them to focus everything else on giving what they have.

What we’ll probably get though is a poor implementation of bottom of screen breadcrumbs and toolbars on iOS 16 ie like iOS 15 safari 😱

Yep. Now I know why I've been getting a blank, white page when I go to my local newspapers website. Also, if I tried to move a tab for a YouTube page, Safari sometimes crashes. Safari would send the report to Apple and it would reopen with all my tabs still present, thankfully.

Reinstalling 11.6 via terminal. Interesting experience :)

Hehe, I reinstalled 11.6 and it came with Safari 14.1.2, I'm saved. No 15.0 will be installed here.

Faced too many issues on Safari 15 in just couple of days use.

Usability:
  • Saving bookmarks to favorites is slow, since every time you need to choose the folder where bookmark is stored (it used to remember last choice).
  • When saving a bookmark - there is no option to rename it straight away - it has to be opened in bookmark manager and be edited afterwards.
  • It is not possible (?) to drag an active tab to a its own separate Safari window in new “compact view” (somehow only possible to drag inactive tabs).

Bugs and crashes:

  • Tab groups do not sync with all devices, in fact tab groups are not even appearing on multiple opened windows on Safari on macOS.
  • Saved several tab groups and turned off macOS. On new start all of those groups were gone (only one left that I have saved a day ago), some of the closed tabs were again open, nothing was synced to other devices. Completely chaotic behavior.
  • Random crashes while opening websites / random slowdowns / overall stability is badly lacking.

Positives:

I do love the new tabbed view on all platforms (macOS, iOS, iPadOS). Had to switch off coloring of the top of Safari straight away though, since that did not look right at all to me and in fact was a very distracting experience.

In general Safari is as powerful as before just more feature reach, can be very minimalistic, compact and 100% consistent with all other macOS apps.👍

Summary:

Safari 15 is a huge update (Tab Groups finally), new really promissong “optional” design, but… It is not even remotely feel like a final / stable release. I do not remember Safari experience to be as bad since I switched to macOS in 2013.

Common Apple. Why even release such a raw piece of software? We have waited for the MacBook Pro 14 long enough. For sure no-one would have a problem to wait another few months for Safari 15.

Overall though, Apple just must take a “year off” to really fixed the issues and bugs in all of it’s core application. Finder with its inability to simply browse folders with automatically adjusted width in column view is just beyond crazy. This makes me feel like literally no software engineer does any real file management with Finder. 😐

I have no problems with the new tabs and like them. Every new GUI update makes some people fuss and they adapt after a short while. You can use classical tabs if you want.
It’s not having a fuss, it’s expecting a quality product from a company that has or had a good reputation. Apple has an increasingly annoying trend of shipping uncompleted, buggy software and it seems that they agree with you, a simple software patch is fine. Those of us that take pride in our work and the code we write might argue that Quality Control is quite important.

can't bookmark youtube pages, pretty annoying, so i downloaded chrome and imported my bookmarks there. apple is so annoying, why can't we just have the same app for 1 year, no changes. why are there changes all the time on every single app and platform. its annoying. nobody asks for these changes all the time.

These issues are unacceptable, including the idiotic tab shading. Let's see if Cook listens to his users and changes the open tab to clear again. Every OS uses a clear window for an open tab and changing it is idiotic

So, is there a way to downgrade from Safari 15 on macOS Big Sur if you have already installed Safari 15?

Does anyone have an answer to this?

How can I downgrade? Safari 15 is just awful and not usable.

Yes, you can download the full macOS 11.6 installer from the App Store and it doesn't include Safari 15 when it installs so you're good to go there.

Ok, so it's on the AppStore, good. I used Terminal commands to download the 11.6 installer and do the install. Re-installing 11.6 and getting rid of Safari 15 was totally worth the time.

Safari, once my go-to browser of choice for the entire time I have used Macs, has, with 15, gone to a complete, unusable mess, particularly on my macs, both M1's and my 2015 MBP running the Monterey beta. Slow, freezes almost constantly, and all in all a very frustrating experience. Why they had to change it is beyond me.

Have switched to Edge, and I must say, it's a much much better experience.
The bigger issue is instead of doing small incremental updates like other browser makers on a regular basis like Chrome and Firefox, Safari stubbornly sticks to releasing large monolithic updates every few months. So when something breaks it takes a while to get around to solving it, also releasing several new features at ones can cause more bugs than individually.

Not seeing any of the above problems on my side. All these three work for me.

There’s no such thing as bug free software but yes this one could have waited for 2 weeks.

No browser I've ever used has had bugs like Safari. I want to like Safari because I like staying in the eco system and having Safari autofill text message codes is super convenient, but the convenience is no longer convenient at the expense of these glaring issues. Another issue I've noticed with Safari 15 is that with some sites that I have two factor authentication on, it won't even load the page to enter the authentication info on, it will just stay on a blank screen. Disabling 2FA from another browsers allows the site to load in Safari. It's become too much of hassle. I want to stick with Brave but their lack of password syncing on iOS is annoying.

Is anyone else have an issue where Cmd + L (open location) does not work, at all?
And now it's working again. When I create a new tab, the address bar is selected, and Cmd + L moves the cursor to the address bar, just like it used to. 🤷‍♂️
