Does the Safari for Windows update fix the lack of scroll wheel support in Safari and the issue with minimizing a maximized window?

Regular scrolling works but my "click" scroll does still not work in Safari.

I'm not sure about the minimizing maximizing bug. But they have done some updates to how resizing windows works so it might be addressed. There is still no minimizing animation though like there is with all other windows apps.

Well, about time they added the spell checker for windows. It is a huge reason why I refused to even conisider using Safria for windows. Now I may be willing to play around with it. Fire fox will stay my main browser for a long time to come.

Are you sure you used the spell checker? ;)

EDIT:
macFanDave beat me to it :(

Is it only on my system (running XP) that Safari takes like a full minute to launch? The app pops up, but it just takes like a full minute to load my home page and become usable. And during that minute, its just frozen... like nothing. But that was the last iteration of the Beta. Maybe they've reduced the load time in this one?

I'm running XP and not having any issues. It loads quickly and is much faster at loading pages than FireFox on the same system.

First time I launched it in XP it crashed after only a few seconds, but after that it has been working smooth as pie.

That's exactly it, as far as I can tell--it's a lost faster to come out of that.

It also appears to behave as a better Windows app; I've noticed that if I alt-tab from/to Safari while it's frozen like that, it'll have the default Windows title bar until it recovers. That would explain why it can now actually minimize/restore from the task bar. :)

For me, Ctrl+[Shift]+Tab was the dealbreaker, so I'm glad that's here. I'm still not entirely happy with 3.0.4--I miss Adblock! But it's finally become a functional browser for me, so at least for now I'm going to stick with it.

Though it appears to be as much of a memory leaker as Firefox; I'll have to play around some, though. Maybe it's not leaking and it was just hungry on first start, but if that's the case 180 MB is just ridiculous.

They changed the color of the highlighter in the find function from orange to a now bigger box of yellow. I like it much better. Wish the Crtl# worked for my bookmarks bar though. Safari is now one step closer to being the best.

what is the shortcut for the google search bar, like Ctrl-L for address bar?

also, what do You all think about side to side scrolling? Should safari have a feature like IE for quick 360 scrolling, or is the ever so tiny track ball sufficient?

 I did that. I prefer Firefox in Windows. But I use Safari in Leopard :)

I prefer firefox on all platforms, becaused of extensions (Adblock and noscript), though safari on Leopard is very very snappy....

Now when will Firefox become useable in OS X?

Last time I checked Firefox was useable in OSX, at least it is on the Intel Platform. I've noticed that it is especially slow for PPC, especially for flash.

In response to Safari vs. Camino on a Mac- I'm a Camino user- its blazingly fast on my iMac. I do think its annoying that the pdf's won't load in the browser.

On my work computer, I've downloaded Safari and have been using it for a while. Its not for any good reason; perhaps I just like the look. I do find it lacking in features/ there's a bug or two that bothers me vs. firefox that I used before. Specifically, I can't figure out how to lock it into one window- I want each link to automatically open in a new tab, not a new window. Also, I find google maps to scroll oddly with the mouse wheel. The scrolling will work, but it takes a moment for the screen to refresh making it very difficult to control.

It seems to me that the font smoothing is slightly different in 3.0.4- anyone else notice this>

If you go to Edit -> Preferences
now..(in the General tab of course)
in the last option you have:
Open Links from Applications

now chose between opening in a new window or new tab ;)
and it's done

yep...scrolling works fine...but "click" scroll doesn't work and that sucks a LOT!!! when i open a big webpage and want to go to the middle quickly...i don't want to have to keep tapping Page Down ou scrolling the wheel...baaah
c'mon you morons...just copycat Firefox and give it the Safari look and that will be perfect (i mean...the new Ctrl + Tab to chose the tabs is the same shortcut as firefox...so...just copy the rest)

It's only a matter of time before Safari for Windows is bundled with iTunes for Windows.

Doesn't bother me at all since I like to keep my iTunes on various macs, and keep the PCs fun-free, but I know a couple people who will be cursing a blue streak when they update their iTunes and suddenly find they have Safari.

But I'll encourage them to try it out. If they dismiss my opinion as "fanboy" rhetoric (because they're like schoolchildren), then I'll direct them to the Alternative Browser Alliance for some insight.

Your img bb code seems not to work....

Yes but that was specified in the Apple "what's new with this version" text box.

...
New features

Allows windows to be resized from any side
Includes an additional font smoothing option ("standard")
...

They probably should've wrapped WebKit in the Windows standard app interface. Would've cut down on a lot of the complaints, I think.
Or it would have made them worse, since they'd be throwing out all the Safari code and starting over.

Proxy Servers

This version of Safari for Windows, like Beta 1, crashes when using a Proxy Server to access the Internet. This means it is completely useless to corporate customers using a Proxy Server.

C'mon Apple. You're better than this.

Standard font smoothing, eh? I guess this means they finally caved and allowed people to let it mangle fonts the Windows way?
You mean like displaying text with ClearType? Damn, I would hate that. I much prefer my fonts be blurrier on screen but match the printed copy better since I have the habit of printing out all the websites I visit.

What a bunch of asses! There's nothing worse than an IT department that fails to realize they are SUPPORT staff. Networks do not exist for the sake of existence, they exist for the sake of the users!
As the IT support staff, it is their responsibility to see that the network keeps running smoothly for the sake of the business, not the users themselves. It is possible the company has an actual "No Firefox" policy. Firefox does allow one to skirt some banned programs, like you can install IRC programs and download managers and such into it and since they run as plug-ins, corporate policies to prevent those types of programs from running would be less effective.

I'm not arguing that Firefox has any impact on network stability or company security, I'm using Firefox at work right now, the point is it's kinda dumb for someone to get upset over what their employer's IT department does to their employer's computer systems. Unless there's some work-related reason you need to use Firefox, their's no reason you need it. Note: This is very similar to basic security hardening of Linux-based OSes; Disable any service that is not explicitly needed for a task.

Now when will Firefox become useable in OS X?

Camino's the reason why they don't care enough to optimize Firefox for Mac.
I used to use Camino a lot, and still think its a great browser, but recently moved to Safari (vers. 3) when it came out of beta for Tiger.
