I installed the new Safari 4 Beta and it's pretty nice, apart from 1 thing: Whether I have or don't have Safari 4 running, it now throws me out of the writing box in Messenger:Mac. I write the message, press "Send" or Enter and then the text cursor isnät in the box any more and I can't start writing right away. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, are there any solutions?

I'd like to add that hotmail isn't functioning either... can't read messages or move to other folders or basically do anything other than check the box next to a message

Messenger:Crap, er sorry, :Mac does strange things. I remember I had issues after installing the Safari 3 Beta years ago, before I discovered Adium. Strangely no other apps were affected.

Here's how well Messenger:Mac is programmed:

[1] Type a single character
[2] Press Delete
[3] Notice how the send button doesn't grey out, even though you don't have a message to send!
[4] Hit send

Repeat to send more blank messages.

Brilliant.

Back working now on Safari 3.

Pity, I liked the boldness in the Safari title..

Thank GOD someone else got this - thought it was just me today after getting Safari 4 installed. I thought I had pressed an option in messenger and mucked it up!

hi have to same problem , i cant read my mail in hotmail with safari 4 .
its my old email , its slow but i have have half of internet use registed with hotmail.

i remenber that on google chrome it had same issue with hotmail , due to microsoft isnt compatible with anything, and the google team use some update from safari 3 , to be compatible with hotmail.

for the issue to be solved it looks like hotmail identify google chrome as being safari.

so i think will be a matter of hours or days to the apple team work this out.

Hotmail doesn't work for me either. Thankfully I'm using Mail for all my Hotmail (which supports POP3 access) so I don't need to use a browser for my mail.

But the typing bug is apparent for me.

I was having the same problem with hotmail and I just useing Firefox it is better then having to uninstall Safari 4 and getting 3 back.

Safari 4 is working here with no problems - and I have found it far, far quicker than Safari 3.
The new interface I find works really well - I don't mind tabs being on top - I do miss the refresh button on the toolbar, although on the other hand after over five hours of usage I have not needed to refresh a single page - and this from pages that previously needed refreshing ... mmmnnn - so all in all it seems pretty darn good. I do like 'Top Sites' (similar to Opera) but I am still exploring - it's rather exciting!
Well done Apple ....!

dont tell me you dont use hotmail.

Great! I'm not alone. I had that problem too. Uninstalled Safari 4 and it's solved :)

dL

the problem is not safari, is microsoft itself , trying to users dont use other browsers, well its a matter of time for internet explorer lose their throne. a slow explorer a big fall:)

Haven't touched Hotmail for at least 10 years. It's not for serious use.

By the way, for those using Safari 4 Beta, don't forget to report the bugs you find... this is how Apple can clean it up and address your issues. If you post here, but don't report to Apple, it won't fix anything.

im using Adium for now! but i really dont like it!

What hell apple???

I have just installed safari 4 beta, and as soon as i did it messed up Microsoft Messenger. After pressing enter to send the message it deselected the window and that really pissed me off.

Now that i have deleted Safari and downloaded Safari 3 it wont let me install because it says that safari is already on the system, even though i have deleted and emptied recycle bin!

i HATE when stuff doesnt work, hence the reason that i swapped to OS X from windows. it is sooooo effing annoying after spend over £2200 on mac stuff. OMG!!!

please if anyone has a solution please say, and dont even bother saying to use firefox or another browser
thanks

It's also got a bug with growl, which crashes the mail.app if using growl notifications.

I used the uninstaller to go back to 3 and everything is good again.

Are you familiar with the word beta? Also, did you even uninstall Safari 4? No to both I think.

Safari 4 updates WebKit, which Messenger:Mac uses. So by deleting Safari, that isn't going to change anything. You need to uninstall Safari 4 (i.e. downgrading WebKit too).
