As I understand it, Apple has to use the new webkit and built it into a newer Safari 4 Beta/Final. You as the comsumer can't change it.
Correct me if I am wrong.

This is one of those areas where, if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't do it. :)

You can run against a newer build of WebKit if you really want to. It's possible, and the WebKit site has details for downloading the nightly builds (that is, the very latest and greatest version) and running Safari with those nightly builds. Those details assume that you're very geeky, comfortable with Xcode and Terminal, and don't mind the idea of something breaking in some very messy way.

However, running against a nightly build of WebKit is probably not something that the average person really does want to do. It's brand-new untested code, so it could break something for you. This is the bleeding edge of software development. Living on the bleeding edge virtually guarantees that you are going to bleed at some point.

Regards,
Nadyne.

Ok thanks again..actually this was the way I meant it but was to lazy to explain it. So thanks for the work here. I wanted to say that for the normal consumer here there isn't (an easy) way. Not talking about the super geeky ones here (they should already know it anyways and wouldn't ask :D)

Bah, 10.5.7, and a new Safari Update, and the bug still exists.

Oh well, I've actually become used to reclicking in the window!

Thanx for the update. It's a shame, I was hoping to be able to install the Beta again.

You forgot the triple whammy, MS Office released a big update last week, and the bug still exists.

Someone must have really stumped the experts on this one.

And what is the deal with Safari 4 still being beta?
Finish it already.

The Safari update was for Safari 3, not Safari 4.

Don't think OS X 10.5.7 made any changes to WebKit..

After your update with 10.5.7, check your software update again.

You'll see the Safari 4 beta update then.

Ah right, my bad.

The latest WebKit doesn't have this bug does it..? So I guess we aren't quite on the "latest" one yet..

What update for Ms Office would this be?

There have been more than 13,000 changes since Safari 3 branched off from WebKit trunk. It takes time. Particularly since I'm assuming their internal target schedule is to release Safari 4 with Snow Leopard.

Well. According to Steve Jobs.

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is coming in early June (6th) 2009.

So its not long a wait really.
I just really hope they sort this MSN bug out. :/

Wishful thinking, but I really doubt Snow Leopard will be out on June 6th. My guess is Early Sept. Maybe August but more likely Sept. However they may fix the Safari 4 in June. The part that interferes with MSN that is.

Sounds like an expensive bug fix for a Messenger issue.

The update isnt just for the bug issue. Snow Leopard will feature a whole new variety of software.

e.g. Quicktime X
Microsoft Exchange Support
Accomodation for 64-bit technology.
More Core power.
etc.

Yeah, I know, I was being sarcastic.
I wouldn't put past Apple to save what should be a simple fix for their $129 OS.

Well, on topic, Safari 4 final no longer has the defocus bug for msn. Huzzah!

that's really good news. I just have donwloaded it when it was released..but didn't want to try it out. Let's see if it also fixes Xcode

EDIT: yes, Xcode works again!

good update!

Cool so they fixed the having to click inside the messenger box everytime you want to reply? I have not had a chance to upgrade yet to Safari 4. I took it off once it did that. Let me know so I will do my updates and install it again.

Yup, that's what I mean.
