Still doesn't work properly. After about a minute it fails.

Crap. Thanks for checking. <sigh>

AirParrot works but costs around $10.

Well, sure. And OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion will bring fullscreen Airplay mirroring to Mac OS as well. But that monopolizes the Mac OS's screen, and requires the Mac to be running the whole time for the video to play. This is a subtle yet also significant difference, from what this excellent extension brings...

I will keep my current AppleTV's frozen at 4.3 until it (hopefully) starts working again, in a future iOS.

I will also try to report these notes to the development team at Apple somehow...

ugh, set up my brand new Apple TV today and found this thread, followed the instructions in the first page or so worth of posts and ran into the problem everybody else is running into, I didn't read far enough in to see that the functionality of clicktoflash isn't working at this point.

The bug seems to be on Apple's end. The buffer for streams initiated externally is shorter (or something.). Still works fine on OS 4.3.3. I'm wondering what the best way is to report this to the relevant development team at Apple. It's such a worthwhile feature, worth protecting.

I, along with many other people would really love to have this feature work. I've wanted forever to get rid of the ancient HP Laptop that I have hooked up to my surround sound via an HDMI cord, but if I want to stream something on the bigger tv it's really the only way since for some reason apple didn't find it necessary to put an HDMI-out on my Macbook Pro.

How old is your MBP? It may not have an HDMI-out port, but does it have a MiniDisplay Port? (Mine does.) With that you could get a cable like this:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003OC6LWM/ref=nosim/appleink/
Works fine and sends audio over the same port too.

Also, coming with Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) this Summer will be wireless Airplay Fullscreen Mirroring, assuming your Mac meets the minimum compatibility requirements.

No, neither of these are the same as ClickToFlash sending the URL to the AppleTV to stream independently to the TV screen... but until Apple fixes that interaction on their end, at least, those are two things to consider. It's difficult to get this bug taken seriously, I think, because it was never an advertised feature of the AppleTV in the first place. And it relies heavily on ClickToFlash reliably indentifying the compatible HTML5/H.264 video to send. So many variables and so many moving targets...

Simple solution. AirParrot for $10 or wait for ML.

Ah, if only it were the same. Full screen mirroring, while cool and welcome, isn't the same as being able to easily "flick" a web video over to the AppleTV, and its separate display, for independent streaming.

#1) Full screen mirroring takes up significant CPU, only works with the newest systems
#2) It monopolizes both screens
#3) You can't really multitask

True. Don't expect what you wish for years. ML won't do that.

Huh? I'm doing it now; and have been doing it since September of last year (when I started this thread.)

It works just fine via ClickToFlash, on both of my AppleTV's (still running iOS 4.3.)

It was the update to 4.4 and beyond that "broke" it, as streams stop playing after about a minute.

I shouldn't have updated my ATV2. I'm having the issue with the 1 minute-airplay too. Hopefully Clicktoflash will have a update to fix it

It's Apple that needs to fix it, not ClickToFlash. Their 4.4 update introduced the bug that stops playback of videos sent this way, after about a minute. The problem is this isn't an advertised feature, so it's difficult to report.

I bought my MacBook Pro in the early part of 2010. I would like to avoid having a cord going across the room if at all possible, but with the purchase of my iPad I might just be able to put my macbook over where the other laptop was and call it good.

Does Mountain Lion have Airplay from individual apps (like Safari) or is it only full screen mirroring?

i.e. should we make Apple aware of the bug or is it pointless since Mountain Lion will fix it anyway.

The first developer preview of Mountain Lion only has full screen mirroring. We have no indication thus far that Mountain Lion will bring Airplay to individual apps (like embedded HTML5/H.264 video in Safari and/or QuickTime Player.)

If whatever bug in 4.4 and beyond of the AppleTV OS could be squashed, to allow for stream playback sent this way to play indefinitely again (as opposed to shutting down after 60 seconds or so) than an extension like ClickToFlash will work without any modification. Of course, native support via the OS would be ideal... but my fear is that Mountain Lion's full screen mirroring will be seen as a suitable "substitute" for this capability, when really it is not.

I sure hope so... fingers tightly crossed. I know I have reported the new bug to the proper channels... the hope is that they've taken it seriously enough to fix it, even though this has never been an "advertised feature."

Here are details on the 5.0.1 update:

I will be testing this out as soon as I get home, and will certainly report back.

I am disappointed to report, that this bug remains unfixed in 5.0.1. Video AirPlayed in this manner stops after about a minute of playback. :(

You can type in the hostname or IP address. For an Apple TV on Mac OS X, the hostname is obtained from the Apple TV’s name (found in Settings > General > Name) by replacing spaces by hyphens and appending ".local."

So "Apple TV" would be entered as "apple-tv.local" and "Bedroom Apple TV" would be entered as "bedroom-apple-tv.local"
