From the activity window of Safari, the item below was listed as never loading and stated 'error' in the status portion. It is from nytimes homepage.

http://graphics8.nytimes.com/bcvide...stId=1194811622188&v=1.07&playerType=homepage

This is just one of many examples....
First off, it works great here. That link is to the media player. The player is written in JavaScript. It does not reside on the NY Times website, at least not all of it. It requires a link to Brightcove.com. My guess is that you have blocked that link.

I've never blocked anything. No Ad blockers or firewall. This is new on my end due to the Safari upgrade. I understand many people aren't experiencing the problems I am, but the new Safari isn't jiving with my system and I don't know what to do... :(

Well it's been almost an hour now and the page still says loading. It happens all the time now. It's like Safari is insisting on loading these items and it bogs the application down if I continue browsing in another tab. It seems like a Safari issue to me.

Just because it still says "Loading" doesn't indicate a problem.

Mine says something similar. Nothing is wrong with the page though. If there were problems, looking in Window > Activity could help you.

Issues with the website.

Geez People

Before you come on here and troll about how Safari sucks and that no one should use it, why don't you check to see if it's you with the problem and not Safari.

Just empty your cache, clear your cookies, delete the Safari preference document, and remove any unsupported extensions. The problem are the extensions; extensions you shouldn't have in the first place.

Try all possible solutions before you go on troll mode.

Nobody has trashed Safari. The reason we love MAC so much is that we don't need to be super computer geeks to use it in an efficient way. What have we (people with probs) done that you haven't done? A simple upgrade should not result in not being able to load a single page. Frustrating!

But big thanks for having proposed different ways to fix the problem. We'll try them and see.

And yes Geez, I regret using the word 'disaster' in the title of this thread.

Well it is a disaster (keeping things in perspective of course) when you can't even load a page. Cleared everything in my prefs - took 3 times, it crashed the first 2 just trying to open my Pref Window.

Don't recall installing extensions save for Adblock (now uninstalled) and Delicious Safari.

Still freezes every single time after the second 'w' of 'www' in the address bar, then hangs 30 to 60 sec before crashing.

Guess I now understand how Windows users feel ...

I agree

This is THE worst Mac browser EVER.

I am running on an almost brand new mac mini OSX 10.6.3...

Almost NO 3rd party software installed....

I don't know how many times Safari has crashed now - or how many times I have tried to pull up some page (like this posting page!) where the blue bar in the URL box goes to the right, then back to the left, then right - usually ending in Safari Crashing.

DISASTER is a word that fits in my book.

I also would recommend NOT installing this upgrade - if you do - it will be at your own peril.

I have reported most crash reports to Apple - let's hope they fix it.

GARBAGE.

Safari 5 works perfectly for me. As a matter of fact, what you describe is exactly what Safari *4* was doing on my computer. The update fixed it all.

Did you try deleting the preferences files? Home folder > Library > Preferences > com.apple.Safari

There is no com.apple.Safari in my preferences folder...

Go to Users>YOUR USERNAME>Library>Preferences>com.apple.Safari.plist

Hey thanks~I found it and deleted it. I actually got a splash page for SafariBlock 2.0 but then it crashed again.

There was also in that section a safariRSS.plist and a safari.plist.saved listed...should they be deleted too?

**I deleted them but no change..and did a restart.

Hang in there MAC Mini (1.83 GHz) Bro. I've deleted all of my Safari files but the app per se, and it seems to be working ... and damn fast. Reliable? Not sure yet. But I might at least be able to continue using Safari as my 2nd browser.

BTW, people in these forums are very knowledgeable and super helpful.

Safari 5 is slow here also .... tried all the tricks and still slow

i have airport extreme and broad band; i reset modem and airport extreme also ...

at the same time it is fast on Chrome, i really want to use safari ...

this is first time in my experience a software update made it slow;

All of you having problems, do you have third party plug-ins or add-ons? Have you deleted them one by one? (I'm not talking "extensions" here.)

90% of Safari problems are caused by third party plug-ins and/or add-ons.

No one has mentioned if they've tried deleting them. User "treasurenet" says he has "almost" no 3rd party software, but doesn't specify which he does have.

Where do I go to remove the 3d party software??

User "treasurenet" says he has "almost" no 3rd party software, but doesn't specify which he does have.

I said that to be safe... Yes, almost NONE.

So, now Apple products will not run with 3rd party software? THINK ABOUT THAT.

Now I have to worry that 3rd party software will affect the use of my BROWSER?

NICE. REAL NICE.

This is a brand new machine with almost no software installed.

Acorn.
Transmit.
BBEdit.
Full Tilt poker. (almost never running)
Skype.
NO Safari plug ins.

HARDLY things you would think could affect the damned BROWSER.

GEEEZUZ.

GEEEZUZ.

The answer for that question would be NO.

NO Safari plug ins.

GEEEZUZ.

No Plug -ins? ie you don't plug-ins like flash, quicktime plugin installed?

If you open up safari and click help and click on "installed plugins", this would show a list of plugins installed that your safari is using. Even third parties plug -ins.

I had surf canyon plug in (which it is a third party) installed before i've upgraded to Safari 5 and I when I did upgrade Safari 5.

The surf canyon plug in was causing serious problems with safari 5 because it was crashing every time I launch Safari 5. I had to remove the plug in to fixed Safari 5 from crashing.

Remove Delicious Safari as it's a problem for Safari 5. Their several locations for this file.

Where else other than Safari can I get to those 3d party plugins? Safari won't stay open long enough to work there.

**
I went to Finder, entered Safari, got to the SafariAdBlocker and uninstalled it, restarted, but no change...not sure of what else I might have or where to look.

Thks for your help. Safari 5 has been running alright since last night, 2-3 hours of Veetle - and boy it is fast! I think the key was deleting the Pref folder. I'd cleared almost everything else, to no avail. I kept my bookmarks, all the plug-ins (quite a list - not sure how I would have deleted them, or which ones were 3rd party, all I supposed), and Del.icio.us Safari is working perfectly.

I'm glad it's working for you. This thread is exactly what I was referring to:
It baffles me how so many people are quick to abandon and talk trash about software apps when they don't work as expected, rather than simply diagnosing the problem.
