Safari probably never loads hotmail or live mail correctly because of all the proprietary ASP Microsoft uses on their web sites. But GMail should have none of this.

That has been my experience too.
Gmail is fine with Safari

For the longest time FF2 was the only thing I could find that would load Live Mail / Hotmail for me. Even FF3 did not do so for a good while, but it does now.

It will be the default setup, as I haven't changed anything about it, since bought my Macbook, and again with the Leopard install.

I have read about other people who have trouble like me. I guess Safari just doesn't want to work properly for some people :(

Well I have a SR MacBook that I bought with Leopard installed and Safari rocks..no crash at all. Does your MacBook crashes with other apps ? Maybe a defect RAM module ?

Well Microsoft Messenger for Mac crashed just now as I quit it, but that doesn't happen that often.

I am starting to think my Macbook is faulty, as it makes clicking/popping noises. I remember reading about popping noises, but the firmware updates did nothing about it :(

In my PC days I used/loved Maxthon browser.
now I get used to Safari and don't have any issues as OP... I have couple minor complains but can live with them...

When I first bought my Macbook, which had Tiger on it, Safari was awful. I used Firefox when I had Tiger, but since I upgraded to Leopard, I have used Safari, as it was useable, but recently it has started to play up again, with the beach ball appearing when web pages are loading, and Safari crashing when I quit it.

I agree with you 100%! I don't know why Mac users continue to back and use this POS.

I use Camino 99% of the time and Firefox the remainder.

Safari always crashes or displays sites incorrectly. I never, ever use it now. Not once in four months I'd guess.

I agree: Safari needs to be shot in the head

YOu are so right. Its never been right not now not ever.
It crashes...it refuses to work with Sirius Radio for on line
listening....its slow. I am using Camino and it launches
fast and is very, very stable.
I would say however iDVD is probably worse. It always has
a reason why it won't work.
I think Apple hired some microsoft guys and if it were up to me I would give them their last check and a map to BestBuy's

I don't want to use Firefox, or other web browsers, as Safari has features that I use, like right-click dictionary (which as wikipedia option), and webpage clipping.

I restart Safari sometimes, but that doesn't do much to help :(

Just wait when you get the beachball. I'm currently using Safari 4 Dev Preview, which hangs sometimes but I just wait about 5 seconds and the page loads. Just a few more bug fixes, since it's a Dev Preview.

Never had issues with Safari myself either. I have firefox but barely use it now. For me, Safari does the job and does it well and IMO, much better than Firefox.

Apparently something is terribly wrong with our Macs because it is supposed to be crap... hang, crash, and do other horrible things

I may try to do a fresh install to see if I can fix mine

No popping noise here...I can guarantee you that Safari is VERY stable on both my Macs...MacBook SR C2D and Mac Mini Core Duo. It's my main browser and I use Firefox only when I have a site not working well with Safari which doesn't happen very often. It has nothing to do with Apple fan boy...it's just stable and fast and I do have common sense enough to judge when a software is a POS, Apple or not. For me, very few sites don't work well with it and even Hotmail works well here as my wife only uses Hotmail without any issue. There is obviously something wrong either with your system or hardware.

Take a look at this. I was trying to open a site. Entered the wrong address and then this came up.

I'm getting worried about my Mac now

It sounds like the hard drive is ticking over, like it is doing something complicated, when it isn't doing anything.

If this was a Windows PC, i'd swear I had spyware on my system

Reinstall Leopard and backup your important files before.

Lets say this is some software messing around with my Macbook, Time Machine will just install the software, I.e. the problem back onto my machine :(

I guess I will have to cope with the problems for three or four more years, till I buy my next Mac.

Thanks anyway.

Why not just start from scratch? Just do a full erase and install of Leopard. Drag and drop only necessary files from your Time Machine backup and erase your Time Machine drive and start over. Is it really worth having crashing apps especially the main web browser that's tailored for your system for the next 3 or so years?
Nothing is so serious that you can't just start over from scratch, at least you will get to the bottom of your issues.

Safari and Microsoft Messenger for Mac have both crashed twice today :(

I thought the days of reinstalling my OS's were behind me when I moved to Mac

The days should be over for any operating system. Instead of holding back I think you should go reinstall it and your problem will be solved.

maybe there's a connection there? the only time safari has crashed on me has been when a flash app has hung up. i hardly blame that on safari tho.

They both crash even when I don't have the other app open. There never seems to be any connection to why they both crash, that I can find.

Other problem I have is that a few times a month, when I turn my Macbook on, it doesn't always start. even when I keep my finger on the power button for a few seconds. Oh and when it is in stand bye, and I lift the lid, and nothing happens, so I have to hold the power button down/

Do you all think my Macbook is faulty, or I am worrying over little things?

My Mothers Macbook works great. She has never had a problem with Safari.

Webkit > Safari.

Haven't used Safari in weeks.
This has to be the most nonsensical post of the week. I get what you're trying to say, but you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. The Webkit nightly builds use Safari. So... How can Safari's engine be better than Safari? Safari uses webkit, webkit uses Safari. Without Webkit there wouldn't be a Safari (and it could be argued that without Safari Webkit wouldn't be as good as it is)

No, your response was actually nonsensical. Safari is webkit powered. By downloading a nightly build of webkit, you get a nightly build of the rendering engine. Safari's release schedule uses an older, less optimized, less buggy build. It's basically like beta testing.

So, you're wrong. I agree with the poster who wrote that Webkit > Safari. I love it.

Find a few javascript tests. Run webkit and safari head to head. Webkit smokes it!

I know what he was talking about. The webkit nightly builds, but Safari already uses Webkit as the engine (just an older version)

When you download the nightly builds of webkit it is still using Safari, just a new version of webkit.

EDIT: So... no. I'm not wrong, but nice try, bud. Better luck next time.
