This has to be the most nonsensical post of the week. I get what you're trying to say, but you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. The Webkit nightly builds use Safari. So... How can Safari's engine be better than Safari? Safari uses webkit, webkit uses Safari. Without Webkit there wouldn't be a Safari (and it could be argued that without Safari Webkit wouldn't be as good as it is)

Safari is older, more stable Webkit, as said.

Webkit is simply a faster, more powerful, if slightly less stable version of Safari - however I must say that Webkit has not crashed on me whereas Safari has several times.

Note: I just did an Acid3 test, just to see how Safari and Webkit (trunk 35773, 15. Aug nightly) stacked up. Safari 3.1.2 scored 75/100, with LINKTEST FAILED, whereas Webkit managed a perfect score. I believe Safari 4 (installed on my other computer) also achieves that, but again, the current build of Safari just isn't as fast as Safari 4 or Webkit.

So, I'm planning to use Webkit for the time being. Firefox 3 is okay, and I use it occasionally, but WK is my day-to-day browser.

Safari 4 Developers Preview is available to the public by creating a free account on the Apple Dev Connection Site.

Safari 4 is lightning. But please remember, Safari is an app. Webkit is a web engine. Webkit is not an app. So when you say you're going to use Webkit instead of Safari it doesn't make sense. Just a little nit pick (yes, I know the app in your apps folder is named Webkit, but that's just to differenciate the two apps.)

Exactly - it's to differentiate the two apps. Do you have a better name we should call it since you object to calling it Webkit as it still shares Safari's main app?

They both crash even when I don't have the other app open. There never seems to be any connection to why they both crash, that I can find.

Do you all think my Macbook is faulty, or I am worrying over little things?

My Mothers Macbook works great. She has never had a problem with Safari.

Okay, I'm going to have to offer some tuff love cause you're being resistant for some reason or another. Dude, stop crying about this and reformat and reinstall Leopard. You keep posting about what's crashing and people are offering you solutions and you refuse to try and fix the problem. If you want to make a bit easier then do an Archive and Install. This will preserve your settings and programs while installing a new System Folder.
If you still have issues then do a full erase and install.

Another thing, you said your mom's Macbook has zero problems with Safari? Then how could post a thread saying ,"Safari has to be the worst software Apple has ever made"? Yes, your frustrated but don't create serious titles like that and come back later telling us that your mom has no problems with Safari.

I see what you're saying. I should stop moaning about it, and just cope with it :(

Well the app is still called Safari, I'd just rather you call the 'webkit' one a nightly build

Yes, BUT WebKit is still used as an engine for more than just Safari.

I realize that the menubar says Safari, and the interface is Safari, but again these are the nightly builds of Webkit, not just Safari. This code is going to get used in all of the WebKit-based browsers.

(Actually, though, I've modified the .nib so it says WebKit on the menubar :p)
