Standard these days. Spotify only made a profit for the first time in 2024. And that doesn't write off their debts and investment returns that are required. If the market collapses they will go with it. So many companies operate like this it's unreal.
Imagine if one day, perhaps soon, the AI bubble bursts and the markets decide that it’s not just an AI bubble, but a general tech bubble filled with a great many over-valued companies that consist of nothing but goodwill and debt with no real prospect of a ROI for many many years. Emperors new clothes on steroids, if you will.

Today at work I thought I would ask ChatGPT to write me a Powershell script to stop and start some services on a server in a certain sequence

'Here is your Powershell script' ... great!

Go to run it and ERROR

Pass that error back to ChatGPT and it cheekily responds with 'ah! the code I generated has this section of code which isn't supported by Powershell...'

Rinse and repeat about 10 times and it finally came up with something that worked but it would have probably just been quicker for me to knock something up myself!
Prompt and context engineering is a science in itself but worth to learn it.

Don't confuse venture-backed tech companies in emerging markets with all tech companies. The only company posting higher net profits than Apple is Saudi Aramco. Of the top ten companies worldwide by profit you've got: Apple (2), Alphabet (4), Microsoft (5), Meta (9). Berkshire Hathaway comes in at #3. The remaining four are banks, with three of them in China.

That’s an impressive amount of obsequiousness in two sentences. OpenAI is not profitable. It already is in financial trouble, because they are burning investment capital on running costs at far to high a scalę to ever recoup that burnt capital. The vast majority of users do not pay. Even the paid users are not paying enough to make OpenAI sustainable. It doesn’t reply on user numbers for investment, it relies on greed, gullibility and unethical fund managers for investment.
THIS !! Sam “The Sham” Altman is a bonfide charlatan and liar. OpenAI is going to need HUNDREDS of billions of dollars in additional outside investment just to limp to 2030 when most Wall Street analysts hope that it achieves some sort of profitability.

Also Google’s own homegrown TPU (Tensor Processing Unit) is seeing exponential growth in AI workloads being ported over to it rather than running on Nvidia’s GPUs which is part and parcel of the OpenAI-Nvidia-Oracle “Circle J@4k” investment scheme. TPUs are basically ASICs specifically designed for AI workloads. While not having as of yet the raw horsepower of Nvidia’s GPUs and you have to write or port your AI app specifically for it rather than the more generic and widely used CUDA or even PTX, once you do that you realize great domain specific workload performance uplift and up to half the power requirements in order to complete that AI workload. This is increasingly becoming a factor of choice as the power grid is close to max capacity nationwide just with the data centers that exist now much less the ones coming online between now and 2030.

Not only is Sam panicking now that it is obvious to all that EVERYONE has caught up to ChatGPT and in some cases has surpassed it by a large margin such as Gemini 3, even Jensen Huang of Nvidia had begun bad mouthing Google’s TPUs because even he sees, like Altman, the increase use of Google’s TPUs.

That is exactly what is going to happen.

And you can see that because the investment companies are simultaneously dumping their tech stocks whilst getting their analysts to promote them to keep volume up.

There will be survivors of course, which include companies which have actual products and services which have an ROI.

Yeah that. They will all see profit contraction but will survive it.

Apple’s already using their own chips for private cloud compute.
Not only that but Apple Intelligence was and is being trained on Google’s TPUs, not Nvidia’s GPUs.

Not many people have put the dots together on the extent of the Apple-Google partnership.

1: Apple has had a longstanding and VERY profitable search engine partnership with Google.

2: Some of those billions being paid by Google to Apple for the privilege of having Google search be the default search engine in Safari is now being paid back to Google in order for Apple to re-engineer Siri around Google’s Gemini AI.

3: Apple’s new head of Apple Intelligence is Amar Subramanya. The former head of Google’s Gemini AI and integrator of Gemini into all of Google’s services.

4: The above mentioned use of Google’s TPUs to train Apple Intelligence which is now being run by the former Gemini head honcho Amar Subramanya.

It could very well be looked at in the future that Google saved Apple in the realm of AI much like Bill Gates saved Apple after Steve Jobs came back by developing Microsoft Office for MacOS.

Grok should not be taken seriously, Eldon use it as one of his toys 🧸
Grok just declared that it would kill all the Jews just to protect Elon Musk.

Grok and Elon Musk are demonstrable and certifiable “Clear and Present Dangers” to both the U.S. and the world. The only charlatan worse than Sam Altman and Marc Andreeson is Elon Musk.

Maybe you are right. But that is how I earn my money, lol.

Why? Its far better then chatGPT and the best coding AI I have used to date and Ive used nearly all of them. Just because you dislike the CEO doesn't mean you cant use and benefit from his product.

Ai should be seen as the scourge it is- a complete money hole, an environmental disaster, a human creativity stealer, a mind numbbing device. "General Ai" should be eliminated.

Your entire post is pure hyperbole in addition to twisting the story. Grok did not say to kill all of the jews, rather it responded to a hypothetical ethical dilemma and theres nothing wrong with that. Nobody should be taking their ethics or morality from a chatbot, that is pure foolishness, that is what God and religions is for.

ChatGPT, Claude, etc come out and say horrible and ridiculous things all the time, its only because its related to Elon that anyone suddenly pretends to care. Like look at how ChatGPT talks about the genocide in Palestine vs Grok and compare that to the actual facts on the ground.

At the end of the day AI is a tool, I use it to code and my business and Grok outperforms all of them by a mile.

It's all in the ask. If what you've said is true, you're doing it wrong, no offense. I asked ChatGPT to create a bash shell script to do a post upgrade quality configuration check of our PeopleSoft app, web, and process scheduler servers, telling it which entries to look for, correct incorrect entries, insert the entries if no entry exists, and report back if the existing entries were correct. Also it created a backup of the current configuration files, and generated a log file of the results, as well as keeping all file permission set to 755. I provide the correct entries and the path to the config files, that was it. The script worked flawlessly the first try. A PowerShell script like you've mentioned is somewhat elementary by comparison, as I have written similar scripts before.

I've used CHATGPT since it came out, I'm a premium subscriber, I've used it for work and all sorts of other things in my life, I've created a huge personal ecosystem in it, but I've fallen out of love with it lately. It seems like it's gotten worse.

CHAT is sloppy, it gets a lot of basic things wrong, and it even outright lies about important things. It also refuses to do basic things it's supposed to do (e.g., help crawl one of my websites and produce a copy deck). I've been using Grok a lot more lately, and while CHAT is still better for writing, Grok is much more useful and accurate imho. I think I'm going to give Gemini and Claude a try soon, I've heard good things.

As others have pointed out here, it seems Apple dodged a bullet here.

Ah, responding to a hypothetical ethical dilemma by sycophantically glazing the product's owner and weighing his life as worth more than that of whole communities should definitely reassure us that we'd want more "AI" creeping into our lives and decision processes, if not surrendering our critical faculties entirely to the oft-promised "AGI" (not happening, btw).

Oh no, make no mistake, those other "AI" ghouls deserve to be hounded from public life as well. But we gotta start somewhere...

In my experience, Gemini is the absolute worst. It's the Alexa of AI. I think ChatGPT and Grok are far better.

Very interesting how Scam doesn’t want to mention Grok, considering it outperforms Anthropic, etc. Guess he doesn’t want to give any more advertising than necessary to the leaders in the Ai game

Or maybe apply Occam’s Razor - Grok is simply not that good, similar to Meta’s Llama. The main threats to OpenAI are Anthropic and Google.

Grok is around the same level as Deepseek and other Chinese models - which is far more compelling options as they are open weight.

You're talking about a tool, who once considered itself MechaHitler, that considers absolute genocide to Jewish people to be more ethical than ending a bigot who is making the world a worse place.

It's a Nazi tool run by a Nazi. Not that complicated
