Does anyone read any of the posts? There must be a dozen posts about it letting you know the phone will ignite. They are all so funny and original.

Someone posted they don't want AI mining your data. Then how is it supposed to work? Geez. Go back to a flip phone, then.

Dag Kittlaus, Adam Cheyer and Chris Brigham, who created Siri, clearly didn't find the Apple experience to their liking. They quit & went off to develop Siri 2.0 (Viv) and found a new home (Samsung).
Dagger through the heart.
This doesn't look good at all.

Curious - do they already use Samsung phones? Are they anti-Apple? Was Viv created using Windows computers?
[doublepost=1475718188][/doublepost]What was Samsung's own built-in assistant? I completely forgot ...

Yeah... my post was rather un-original. I admit it.

Like I said in my post though... I would like to see mass competition with the AI thing to take the whole "smartphone" thing to the next level over the next few years. I do think this could get very interesting as time goes on. Not just in the voice / Siri style interaction, but also in the non-verbal interaction aspects paired with it.

This is totally weird...

Not at all. Currently Samsung is reliant on Google for Android.
Google has announced they they will be competing more forcefully against all other Android Brands.

Samsung is the most successful, and is therefore the most likely to separate from Google where they can. This in turn is a threat to Google who needs all the user data it can get to keep their advertising business profitable.

This was bound to happen.

Apple has something better. They bought Vocal IQ. I am sure they are waiting for the iPhone 8 to introduce it. The other issue they have is it takes phenomenal amount of computing power to run a more sophisticated AI for almost a billion customers off their server. One at a time no problem. Scale it up to a million or more and forget it.
"Uh oh" - Tim Cook

You dun goofed Apple!

Viv kills Siri!

Samsung exec: We need new things for new Galaxy launch next year.
Samsung employee 1: Well, that's that assistant thing that Google is doing.
Samsung exec: Ok, who else have been doing it?
Samsung employee 1: Well, Apple, Microsoft, they all have something like that
Samsung exec: Okay, copy them ASAP for next year launch
Samsung employee 1: errr, it's not that easy Sir, plus we have these expl....
Samsung exec: You're fired. You there, number 2, speak.
Samsung employee 2: Good timing sir. We can buy this company called Viv
Samsung exec: Do it. Oh, and we can call it S-voice.
Samsung employee 2: I believe we did that alread...
Samsung exec: Are you questioning my genius? S-Voice, Samsung's new innovation.
You do realize that Apple did not innovate, but instead bought Siri, right? That was a lot of typing just to fall flat.

After the Google Phone now I am trying to understand what is the significance of other android manufacturers and how they gonna compete with Google. Very awkward situation here. Samsung still uses android to power their phones so is this VIV purchase will be the option that will lure Google Pixel customers to buy a Samsung instead ? And how many layers will samsung put on top of Android to make this happen also how much RAM will it need to function normally ? So many questions...

Samsung is fine at acquiring software companies and poor at implementation. They are the masters of mobile bloatware like Hewlett Packard PCs were 10 years ago. Their specs aren't bad but, their software is god awful.
Yeah, expect Samsung to squander Viv worse than Apple squandered Siri*.

But I'm hoping this will light a fire under Apple to really expedite future AI developments.

*For the first four years or so, I'm aware of the massive improvements in the last 12-18 months.

I am still having all the laugh when saying the term "S-Voice". (Sounds like @$$ voice...)

Thats great. I personally think Apple should kill off Siri brandname - its become a joke seriously in comparison to Cortana, Alexa, Google Assistant! They should rebrand it along with AI capabilities and just call it the Apple Assistant.

hmm.. Maybe samsung is going to make something like Amazon echo.

Anyways, I think everyone has a leg up on apple these days as Siri still dramatically sucks. Although it has gotten better these last couple of months, and I don't mean the third party integration.

Would love to replace siri with Google assistant!

Siri is much better on the Apple Watch, expect an even greater improvement on the AirPods.

Who said Apple was innovating? Is reading comprehension a challenge for you, or can you not even take a joke?

Right now, selling your software company to be exclusively used on the Samsung platform is like choosing the Titanic to transport cast iron weights across the North Atlantic Ocean.

Bad timing.

Why? Cause note 7s are exploding?

Not relevant really , you just got paid $$$$$. It's not an exclusive deal, it's an acquisition.

No doubt in years to come they will start another company, hoping another tech giant throws money at them.

Wait, Siri actually works for you?

Siri can't even send a SMS to my wife. Was on my bike yesterday and no matter how I phrased the command, even exactly as Apple state to do, it kept asking for an email address so that it could email her.

As much use a chocolate teapot.

Sums it up really ..

VTBgk7q.jpg

From my experience it send me to the iTunes Store as first priority . For example ask anything related to "walking dead" always the push to buy..

When Siri could not retrieve the 2016 Olympics gold medal tally table, that was the last straw, I gave up.

Seriously though what's the plan for here for Samsung are they going to move to their own OS? Surely they aren't going to slap this thing on top of Android?

I really hope they will build their own OS because in 3-4 years time (once my iphone 6s will die) i am not planning on buying a new apple phone. So i hope there will be another OS option out there other than Android and Windoze. Apple has too much "courage" for my taste at this point.

The joke was obvious, but frankly it was not very good. There are so many people here thinking "courage", "snappy" and "samesung" references are somehow comical, while most of us were bored of and annoyed at these after the first instance they appeared.

Not judging you specifically, but if somehow we could refrain from these kinds of posts this board would be much more enjoyable.

And now get off my lawn!!

This is cool and really impressive. Does it also recognize "call XXXX" or "play music from XXXX" well? Because it is the simple things that Siri continually messes up for me. It is by far the most frustrating "feature" of iOS.

Does anyone use siri for anything other than setting a timer?
I wish OSX and IOS had a windows like feature installer/remover. Siri would be toast!

The team behind (the worst) assistant. Good point for Google (and even for Apple).

I watched the MS Ignite keynotes yesterday and have to admit that what MS are doing with AI seems to be leaving Apple far far behind. I mean Cortana seems to be much more capable than "Hey Siri, set a timer for 5 minutes"

Is anyone paying attention at Apple anymore?

Sigh

Works flawlessly for me. But then again i speak clearly and don't have a strong accent which is the main problem with all these Assistants.

Siri needs deeper integrations and they are slowly rolling that out. I want to be able to search within Plex or Evernote for example
