This ad is dumbbbb. I don’t think this is going to affect Samsung negatively or positively. I think this just does nothing for them. Serves no purpose.

Samsung's back to a familiar advertising tactic in its latest Galaxy S9 video - making fun of Apple. The new "Ingenius: Speed" ad shared this afternoon by Samsung pokes fun at the Genius Bar while touting Samsung's faster download speeds.

In the video, a customer at the "Ingenius" bar that resembles an Apple Store asks about the iPhone X's download speeds compared to the Galaxy S9's speeds, leaving the Apple retail employee unable to respond.

Customer: So the iPhone X doesn't have the fastest download speeds.

Genius: It is faster than the iPhone 8.

Customer: But the download speeds aren't faster than the Galaxy S9. I thought it was the "smartphone of the future."

Genius: Um...

Samsung's new video, and its Galaxy S9 website, are touting its LTE performance scores on Ookla's Speedtest Intelligence Data from February to April 2018. Ookla, for those unfamiliar, uses real-world user-submitted speed test results and aggregates LTE speeds from a variety of devices.

In Ookla's spring speed tests, the Galaxy S9, which is equipped with Qualcomm's X20 LTE chip, was 37 percent faster than the iPhone X and 43 percent faster than the iPhone 8, on average.

The iPhone X is equipped with either Qualcomm's Snapdragon X16 or Intel's XMM7480 LTE chip, depending on model, which does indeed have lower theoretical maximum download speeds than the X20. While the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are faster than the current iPhones when it comes to download speeds, rumors suggest Apple is making improvements with its 2018 iPhone lineup.

Apple is planning to introduce improved antenna technology for faster connection speeds, along with dual-SIM dual standby functionality. Apple's new iPhones may use Intel's XMM 7560 and Qualcomm's X20 chips, both of which are faster than the LTE chips in the current iPhone X.

All I know is my nanny bought a Samsung fridge at Best Buy and in less than 6 months the whole front completely rusted. Samsung did not replace.

If Samsung keeps churning out cheesy attack ads, they must be working? I mean Apple still has a huge foothold in the mobile market to begin with. For those who watched the MKBHD video with iJustine recently, I am sure you caught the "you need to make a better experience than Apple" comment? It's not about just making better hardware or including a bevy of smartphone features.

How do you emulate the ecosystem? Fast updates, more apps, stronger dev support, easy handoff between Mac/iPad/iPhone, FaceTime, iMessage? Sure, there are workarounds to mimic the experience, but they're not going to be the exact thing. Some might be cut-rate or slightly weaker offerings.

I mean, I can try the What's App/Push-Bullet/Duos of the world, but I also do not use a PC too often, so it's moot for me. I am happy with my MBP and iPad. I do not mind using Android, but it would have to be a Pixel or iPhone for me. I rather use iPhone for the years of longevity and the ease of support available to me.

Samsung is targeting the average joes or janes that have no clue about tech or smartphones.

Couldn't that be said for other companies too? Apple has its fair share of users who just care about a logo or the status. You cannot emphasize a focus differentiation niched product if your goal is to maximize profit returns and create the largest market share possible.

Not only slower throughput but also worst reception compared to previous model Galaxy S8. Doesn't matter if the iPhone has Qualcomm since it's dumbed down to Intel level.

iPhone slow to pick up service on the NYC subway, my Galaxy S8 has it immediately at each stop

So I ride the subway to work. I have an iPhone X, and a Galaxy S8. The iPhone X at most gets 4G service, and mostly NO service for the entire ride in, including on the bridge.

The Galaxy S8 has LTE service instantly at each stop and a functional data connection even in weak spots.

Am I doing something wrong with the iPhone? It's so frustrating that its barely functional on T-Mobile.

Love how Samsung schedules everything so they can bash apple right before a refresh. Plus 40% of 0.05seconds is irrelevant and if thats the best thing they can advertise against, it says a lot. They also didn't account for render time, download + render + ready time is what actually counts. Even though its such a small gap it doesnt really matter.

Be glad that there's Tim Cook on the helm now, who is more cool headed. If Steve Jobs was still around, the thermo-nuclear war would've continued.

While not done all that well, it reminds me of the old Mac vs PC commercials that were great. I don’t think it is as bad as some are saying, it’s advertising and trying to get mindshare. Apple hasn’t exactly been firing on all cylinders lately.

Also remember that competition is good for everyone.

P.S. I love my iPhone X but hate the current MacBook Pro.

hmmmm, faster?

Geekbench iphone 8 = 10181 , Samsung 8678. Only in the Samsung alt fact universe is that faster

The Mac versus PC adds were funny, the Samsung adds are your little brother being an a^^hole.

BTW: How can you hate a product that has been out for 2 days?

Mmmmm, well, the ad doesn't make sense already because the lady was there to ask questions about the iPhone, not get service at the genius bar... o_O

This is also a pretty stupid ad. The average customer is never going to ask about a phone's downloads speeds. It's just not something that people care about.

It also shows how insecure Samsung is that they always have to include Apple in their ads. The best companies never talk about their competitors. Their product speaks for itself. For example, you would never see Mercedes comparing itself to Lexus nor Coca-Cola comparing itself to Pepsi.

This is a terrible ad. the whipping noise is atrocious too

No one is claiming the X is faster than the 8 LOL!

Isn't the S9 also a newer phone than 8/X?

:D

Samsung has a point...a lot of these “geniuses” are actually dumb..not all...but alot.

I can't think of a single time anyone I know anywhere or any forum posts I've ever seen have been like "The LTE on my iPhone is so slow!" it's always "My network is so slow".

The iPhone modem is capable of what 400Mb/s or something. Best 4G I get on my carrier is 80Mb/s and for that I need to be in the perfect location.

Such a weird thing to spend ad money on they should have focused on its cheaper price vs the iPhone X or something more tangible.
