This is an outrage, it's basically extortion. Samsung is telling Apple "you better not innovate and release a new phone or we'll sue you". This from the company that has never innovated on anything in the history of their existence. Their business model is and always has always been "copy whatever Sony does and save money with cheap Korean labor".

How do you not innovate and yet place 2nd in the realm of patent grants ?

Wow how creative... instead of fighting each other, they could spend the money and time on developing better technologies... and this forum really badly needs a patent section.

Who did they steal their world-class electronics such as SSD's and LCD's from? Wouldnt be surprised if Samsungs R&D budget dwarfs that of Apple, this despite Apple sitting on a ton of cash which they seem to not be able to find any appropriate use for.

for 2010 - don't forget to mention that. it just mean that samsung has been granted xxx patents in 2010. it doesn't mean they innovate, they might just try to patent in the US something they've invented and patented in Korea some time ago, to use it in the future lawsuits.

Because only Apple can innovate, duh. Its self-evident. The only reason why Apple buys components from others is that they cant be bothered to mess with non-innovative things such as hardware.

Go to hell Samsung, go straight to hell. A friend just got the Galaxy S 2 and it looks and feels like a toy. Not even in the same zip code of quality as the iPhone 4.

LOL cheap Korean labor? Have you ever been to Korea? Living there is more expensive than here.

Some of statements here are so blatantly one sided and ignorant it's hilarious. And no, I am not an Apple hater as I own iphones and ipads.

Charts for other years aren't much different.

I'm guessing this lawsuit is related to apple's use of LTE in iphone 5. Samsung is one of the biggest LTE patent owners.

Patents and actual products are two different things.
You need to learn the definition of what a product is.

Apple depends heavily on Samsung's products. CPU, memory, Displays... all of these components are products of Samsung used by Apple to build their own products.
Samsung supplied the CPU for the iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS and the original fab for the A4.
The NAND chips didn't magically appear from thin air, nor did LCD displays that Apple uses.

You're right - so tell me - how many Apple products are there vs Samsung. Out of curiousity.

I think these patent wars are slippery slopes as most of the companies involved rely on the other for a piece of their own business.

They'll need to figure out a way to play nice or one of the kids is going to take their toys out of the sandbox, go home - and that won't benefit anyone...

Samsung is also invested in many areas that Apple just isn't. DVD/Blu-ray, TVs, Fridges/Microwaves/Ovens/Stoves and other appliances, Mobile phones/tablets, Computers, Laptops, components, Industrial machinery, etc.. etc..

So no, people saying Samsung aren't innovative, Samsung only copies, etc... are talking without actual knowledge. Just bashing what they perceive as an "ennemy".

Apple is playing a dangerous game. Samsung holds way more patents than Apple. Samsung manufactures parts in the iPhone. All phones look similar now.. Apple didn't invent the smartphone or touchscreen.

If Apple does get screwed over. We all get screwed over because Apple is the only company who innovates now a days. If Apple is stopped then we will be lingering in this era forever and all the other companies will continue to make their products look like the iphone 4 because they do not have the brain capacity or creativity to go further. They NEED Apple to design for them to copy. Terrible for everyone.

apple has not inovation since 2007, the ipad is a iphone with out the cell part.

do they have a good eco system yes, why apple sue samsunge for what are they scare off?

they rule the tablet space now but that will change, apple has a lot of loyal customers that refuse that things can be done better then them. (apple)

samsunge is doing a good job with there stuff and apple nows this, all these people say apple the best no one can beat them .

yeah apple sell a lot of phones to the same people every year. show me the number of new user that buy a apple iphone, that the number that will show growth.

And look what the non-innovative iPad has done to the industry (and HP's business, for example.)

Look at what the non-innovative App Store has done to the industry.

And on and on.

If that isn't innovation, I get the chills just thinking about what Apple will pull off when they *do* innovate.

That means the average iPhone buyer owns several iPhones and will own even more next quarter. LOL

Samsung likes to talk big.

But they have yet to nail anything on Apple nor even defend itself against what Apple throws at it (e.g. injunction against Galaxy Tab in Germany) despite their boosting.

We will see.

that injunction does not mean crap store in germany are still alowed to sell a restock the galaxy 10.1

A supplier here, a supplier there . . .

I recall some a story on MacRumors a couple of weeks ago about Apple wanting Samsung to make something for them. This since whoever was going to do it for Apple in the first place had weren't able to do it according to Apple's standards and needs.

A supplier here, a supplier there . . .
that's like saying
A phone maker here, a phone maker there . . .
