And Apple stole the initial concept from Xerox.
Yawn...
Nope, not even close.

Jobs negotiated a deal whereby he and his team would get 3 days at PARC in exchange for Xerox getting the right to buy 100,000 shares of Apple stock at $10/share.

PARC knew they couldn’t commercialize their inventions, and thought Apple could. Some of the innovation in the Lisa and Mac came from PARC, some did not.

They never paid for the right to use technology, that was the point.
Xerox later sued but was outside the statute of limitations.

Maybe Samsung agreed to lower costs on display’s, chips and other components used in iPhones in return for dropping the settlement
Samsung is not making chips for Apple, just OLED display now. TSMC is the sole manufacturer of A Series processors.

Here is my guess as to what went on:
Apple: Please don't sue us for copying the S8/Note 8 line of phones with the iPhone X (which is a blatant copy by the way)

Samsung: Ok, then drop the lawsuit you have against us claiming we copied some of your older iPhones and you can even keep the money we already gave you.

Apple: (Realizes this is the best offer they have ever received as Samsung could have stopped iPhone X sales cold) Ok, not problem, we will let the courts know right after you sign this agreement stating that.

they don't even look close.

Actually Xerox stole the ideas from someone else, can't remember who right now.

Yeah, they do look very close and Face ID (at least as close as the phones in this lawsuit), well Samsung had it first.

Apple accomplished everything they set out to accomplish. 100 percent victory. They wanted to make sure that Samsung was permanently labeled a copycat (that’s gonna stick) and they wanted to let other companies know that they will defend their IP until the end of time itself (message received). I’m super proud of Apple for not giving in and letting them blatanty rip off their designs. Anyone who denies this happened didnt see the PowerPoints and emails from within Samsung where they openly discussed copying Apple’s UI and device design as much as possible, even down to the icons.

Apple’s GUI for the Mac was designed in-house but they used fundamentals and IP legally acquired. The release of the Mac was one of the most revolutionary moments in the history of computing, PC users were still typing at command prompts.

Jobs was ruthless in pursuing justice for his idea. Now his vision, his genius behind worldwide disruption, his protection for HIS intellectual property dies, likely for discounts on parts. He was so ruthless he probably would have abandoned renewing component contracts while dumping billions into, say, LG, to replace what they needed from Samsung.

Apple’s leadership is no longer a fresh fruit to be bitten into, but a “from concentrate, pasteurised,” glass of apple juice... with high-fructose corn syrup.

In the end, it was merely nationalism at war, Made in China vs Made in South Korea. South Korea won on technology and quality plus they're friendlier towards the West and neighboring countries with regards to territorial claims.

Yes they were paid, the stock option was what they negotiated for and what they got. That million dollars worth of stock would be worth over a billion today, but they sold it years ago.

Xerox sued in 1989, but four of five counts were dismissed, and the one count that remained had no legal damages associated with it. None of the counts were dismissed due to SOL issues; the court’s decision is available online but it’s a pretty difficult read unless you’re an attorney.

OT
For what, they are plenty fast enough, no need for extremely fast internet on a phone.

Shame we will never know how much cash changed hands or what deal they made.

What? Why? Why wouldn't you want the most out of what's available? There's no need for an SSD vs a spinning hard drive, but it's pretty nice. Odd.

Yes, it really is a huge win for Apple, and after seven long years they finally have justice. Indeed, they have fiercely protected their IP.

Having brought Samsung to its knees, extracted hundreds of millions of dollars and forced Samsung to drop its appeal, yes, no doubt Steve Jobs would be immensely proud of his management team. They are to be congratulated!

Well, that was a fun ride.
I'm sure both companies have had enough with this lawsuit. Samsung has their own problem (internally and domestically) to deal with.

Should have continued fighting. Many friends have dumped iPhones for Samsungs and I see Samsung as the largest threat out there. The respect/fear would have been better than the money.

Do you know how many of the components inside the iPhone you’re holding are made by Samsung?

Especially thier foundries, Samsung has lost almost all their customers.

“Almost all International Makers of Mobile Chipsets have turned to TSMC for the fabrication of High-Performance Chips”.

Even Qualcomm.

Do you?

Basically the screen and some ram.

But Apple was part of the consortium that purchased toshibas memory chip business... so going forward just the display.

Samsung has had about three original ideas, ever.
Samsung's email utility in their Galaxy devices is a rip-off of Microsoft Outlook since the different ways of sorting function exactly like Microsoft Outlook. For example I can sort emails alphabetically by sender or subject in both Samgsung Galaxy and Microsoft Outlook.

apple copied sony. then samsung copied apple. almost all apples designs are ripoffs of sony products.

Awkward
Don’t think you read what you posted. It said Sony started to take inspiration from apples iPod.
“It’s also especially interesting to note that the interview actually directly references how Sony was inspired by Apple – not the other way around. When asked how the iPod affected Sony’s design, Moriswa responded (emphasis added):

When I started this project, that [the iPod] was my concern. I looked at the first Walkman [which debuted in 1979]. Then I thought, “How can I give shape to the music?” Music doesn’t have shape; it’s flowing. I was listening to music and waving my hand in the air. I thought there shouldn’t be an end to its lines. So I started drawing a round shape, and I kept moving the line. […]”

the article tells you right in it, the iphone was intended to be a ripoff of sony from the very start. why do you think i didn't read it?

it's a big controversy with all 3 of them pointing the finger at each other. if you want to really know about it you have to read more than one article on it.

From your article:

“How Sony was inspired by Apple”

You remember the iPod right, it came before the iPhone. SMH

Samsung galaxy phone blatantly copied Apples iPhone. They got sued they lost now they settled.

Your grasping at straws trying to say Apple copied Sony smartphone design.

i don't think you read the article... you would of saw the picture of the iphone prototype with the word SONY right on it.

[doublepost=1530165898][/doublepost]Apple industrial designer Shin Nishibori was directed to prepare a “Sony-like” design for an Apple phone and then had CAD drawings and a three-dimensional model prepared. Confirming the origin of the design, these internal Apple CAD drawings prepared at Mr. Nishibori‘s direction even had the “Sony” name prominently emblazoned on the phone design

I think you read the opening paragraph and Samsung's CLAIM, but not the rest. Certainly not this: "Samsung’s claim is that Sony’s comments in that interview set the course for Apple’s iPhone designs – not that they copied a physical design or ripped off a software interface." The article's conclusion is that Samsung's claim was pretty bogus.

So show me a Sony developed design that looked anything like what Nishibori, of APPLE, created, regardless of what name he put on it.
