At 440 ppi pentile would not matter at all.

Samsung has access to every mobile display technology, but Samsung uses AMOLED on its flagship phone. Why? Because Samsung considers it the best display technology.

Apple uses LCD because Apple doesn't have access to the best display technology. So Apple has to use the old tech backlit LCD which became a commodity.

Apple has access to whatever display technology it wants. $137 billion of cash can buy a lot.

WOW, I have officially gone to Samsung. I'm selling my iPhone 5 64 GB on ebay tomorrow for $200.00. I don't need a phone from a company that releases everything on their product a year after everyone else does & claims it works better. Bitch, theirs works just as good. Apple has fallen. They give us a watch? Who wears a watch when you have a phone that displkays the time lol.

My first programming class used an Apple II.

My roommate had one of the original Macs in 1984. I loved it. It inspired me.

I used a Mac II in grad school. I loved it. It inspired me.

I bought a Mac IIci in 1991. I loved it like a child.

...

But hey, maybe I'm a Chinese/Korean plant, established here three years before the first iPhone appeared. Damn, they think ahead, don't they?

I've noticed your comments on this piece, and they did not smell spam :) I had no doubt that they were real. I mean other comments, they usually are short (1-2 phrases), uninspired and uninteresting however you look at them, with an agenda to trash iPhone.

I'm a programmer myself. I've programmed both for iOS and Android.

I have some first-hand experience with spam comments in AppStore...

I hope that I'm wrong, but a lot of comments really smell like paid-for spam...

Apple uses LCD because Apple doesn't have access to the best display technology.

"Best" is subjective though. Line up an iPhone 5 next to 3-4 other leading phones, and most people probably couldn't tell you which is supposedly the "highest end" screen.

Not to mention, Apple has never been about competing for the best technical specifications, with few exceptions (whether you see that as a plus or minus is another story). Every iPod had a competitor with more space; every Mac has had a competitor with a faster processor, more memory, or larger harddrive; same with every iPhone, etc. etc. Apple's entire philosophy has always been to focus on the broader experience and not the detailed specs, so stating that a phone that was announced today and isn't shipping has better specs than a phone on the market from a company that hardly ever builds products with bleeding edge specs seems obvious.

While I love Apple products, I have to admit that they are falling behind when it comes to iOS and their Mobile devices.

Nothing has significantly changed, most of the experience remains the same, and the features aren't game changers, apart from Siri I guess.

Yes, iOS is still super fast, stable and has an amazing app ecosystem. But that in my opinion is not enough anymore.

Website needs to be called 'mac haters.com'

Or, "reality bites."

For the record, I've had two Samsung Galaxies and would never buy another one.

But I do still have the Galaxy Nexus (also made by Samsung), which is a pure Google phone, wearing stock Jelly Bean and getting all the timely Android OS updates, and is actually in many ways better than my iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5 is way better designed and made, but the Android OS is really more advanced overall, IMO at least.

If the HTC One was a pure Google phone, I'd be all over it in a NY second.

I was really looking forward to this release as I'm looking to make an android my daily phone. Why couldn't Samsung design something that looks great? This looks and oat certainly will feel cheap. Features are features, both platforms are equal and offer things that nobody uses.

Long time apple loyalist

I'm embarrassed by my fellow apple fanboys

Mods please start banning the apple fanboys who are making insults

That's just BS. Quote: "Samsung Display has 98 percent market share in the OLED panel market." And Samsung uses their most advanced OLED panels for their Galaxy phones. Where exactly would Apple get OLED panels for iPhone? Also, given the fact that they produce only one phone model, they would need a lot of those panels.

5" for a phone is just ridiculous for me.
While I would never get a 5" phone for myself, I can understand that some people value screen size over pocketability. If if that's a big enough market, why not release a bigger model for them?
The iMac, the MacBook and the iPad all come in at least two different sizes. Why should the iPhone be different?

Both platforms are equal? In what sense? The list of features missing in iPhone is a mile long. Thee is nothing in iPhone that SGS4 is missing. That's not equal. And, once again, with the set of features that Samsung puts in their phones, neither glass not metal cases are an option. You imply will not find a single phone on the market that has NFC, wireless charging, memory cards and replaceable battery and has a non-plastic case. If you prefer aluminum but somewhat dumb phone - that's fine. Form over function has always been Apple's domain.

The best thing about this is the SIII will now be cheaper. I could actually see myself getting one (SIII). Most of the changes are software, and I would overwrite TouchWiz with Cyanogenmod anyways, so no loss there.

Yea

Siri should be able to translate things
Maps should have a night mode
Photos should be completely redesigned
Camera should have timer/burst mode
Multitasking should not require the home button
Notification Center should sync with iCloud
FaceTime should do group calls

Pretty amazing to see what Samsung and others have been able to do. In some areas they have clearly surpassed Apple. Just shows they're being competitive and trying new things out.

Apple should be the one doing that.

Now no one, even Samsung (who owns 98% of OLED market) can produce OLED displays in quantity Apple needs.

Here's an example of the line that some reviewers are taking.
I suspect people want to take it to Apple because they are somehow sick of its dominance.

"iPhone 5 Killer? iPhone 6 Killer More Likely
How can I make that bold statement without a full review, or even touching an actual Galaxy S4, for that matter? Well it’s easy, actually – Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and Note 2 are both serious contenders for the ‘Best Phone Ever’ title, but in terms of power, functionality and flexibility the S4 takes the ball and runs with it – into a whole new ballpark. Apple’s team will be staring at the specs and features of Samsung’s new superstar and wondering how to top it. Frankly, unless the iPhone 6 is something more than a vaguely evolved iPhone 5, which was itself pretty much a stretched (and vaguely evolved) iPhone 4S, then the Cupertinio crowd are stuffed."

So there you go - "staring at the specs"...

It would look so much better if they didn't put "SAMSUNG" above the display and cram the earpiece/sensors at the top but centered them instead without a logo on the face of the phone like the iphone. what a dick move that is.

Amen. Could we have at least a moderate refresh of iOS too? I don't quite need Windows Phone's tiles, but I really don't need to launch the weather app to know what the temp is outside. Something more than static icons with annoying red notification circles would make me very happy. :)

for all the teasers samsung released, this Galaxy S3S is a big disappointment on design-wise. Samsung doesn't even try to introduce a new design to make it look fresh.

They follows the foot step of Apple trying to whore one design for 2 generation.
