That's just BS. Quote: "Samsung Display has 98 percent market share in the OLED panel market." And Samsung uses their most advanced OLED panels for their Galaxy phones. Where exactly would Apple get OLED panels for iPhone? Also, given the fact that they produce only one phone model, they would need a lot of those panels.
Apple would be using it if it was really better. The problem has been that the tech has a relatively short life span because it is organic. Apple needs their phone to last longer than 2 years.

Build quality wise, it's pathetic. Software wise, it's still not up to par. Features, yes, it's night and day.

Well you were referring to design...

"The real reason why you see an S4 the way it is now before your eyes is because samsung could not copy apple any further. Unless apple is planning on a huge redesign on their next gen iPhone (6), it seems samsung has copied all it can copy up until iphone 4(s)/5 models. They have utterly finished photocopying and analyzing apple's designs, it's dried up all of their "innovations"."

So its more like after getting sued for previous copies, Samsung started creating its own designs. GS3 came out in 2011 so they were at least working on the design in 2010.

Samsung hasn't been copying Apple's design since (Galaxy S3/4, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 8).

I don't know why the dessert theme, but all the versions have been alphabetical:

- The first 2 versions were Android 1.0 and Android 1.1
- Cupcake (1.5)
- Donut (1.6)
- Eclair (2.0)
- Froyo (2.2)
- Gingerbread (2.3)
- Honeycomb (3 - Exclusively for tablets)
- Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0)
- Jelly Bean (4.1)
- Key Lime Pie (5.0)

sorry correction - they sound like accessories from The Littlest Pet Shop toy range for 5 year old girls.

one day you will not be able to google a dessert without going through multiple pages of android results first. Just like Apple did to the fruit.

Now no one, even Samsung (who owns 98% of OLED market) can produce OLED displays in quantity Apple needs.

Samsung says it's going to sell 400 million smartphones this year. That's about twice as many as Apple will sell. If Apple called up Samsung tomorrow and said they'll buy as many OLED displays as Samsung can sell them, I'm sure Sammy would find a way to put some cheaper displays in its $49 emerging market phones to accommodate.

Next up: Ginger honey cream, followed by lime jelly sandwich. As much as I admire Android as an OS, Google set themselves right up for being mocked.

What a crock, naming wise.

Do you want just perfectly smooth running apps, or perfectly smooth running apps AND low battey life?

You are wasting your time arguing about specs with spec jocks. Next year, 8 cores will not be enough. Of course it's not enough considering the power in the S4 still shows lagging.

I'm sure Samsung would be willing to sell Apple OLED displays if they wanted them. After all, Samsung still supplies a lot of SSDs, CPUs, and laptop displays. Heck, if I buy a MacBook Pro w/Retina Display I have a 50% chance of getting a Samsung display and 50% chance of getting a Samsung SSD. If I buy a Samsung Series 9 Ultrabook, I have a 0% chance of getting a Samsung SSD (I don't know about the display).

I want an hybrid e-ink/IPS 5" phone. Reading is a nice thing to do with a big screen and a IPS/AMOLED one makes reading not so comfortable.

Wow I rather stay with my iPhone 4, I seen so much broken Android phones with cracked screens and cases and rather odd issues with Android it self. Why would I want to have a tablet inside my pocket? The iPhone is still great no matter what the nay says say.

'atta boy! shouldda kept your flip phone, 'cause it never needed no stinkin' 4g or LTE.

Don't give up that flint in your pocket, either....

Google should make their own Google desert theme park...

That would actually be kinda sick.

I used to say exactly this but gave up with the amount of blind haters on this forum. You will wake up tomorrow with 50 hate mail.

It is so obvious though isn't it. iPhone 4 releases, Samsung scours the design, iPhone4S (same design), samsung "oh ****! we better hire some designers fast!" iPhone5 (slimmer), Samsung - "hmm.. lets just throw a big screen on, everyone will call it innovation even though it won't fit in their pocket, they will require two hands to use". Samsung - "..... where is the iPhone5S!!?? we're in big trouble now, quick make the screen even bigger!!!!! don't worry about anything else, we're not the top so there is no reason for people to hate us on not changing design. Only Apple cops tantrums like that! :D "

Galaxy S3 was nothing like the iPhone 4/4S...so...

Well, Samsung did lots of deliberate things like making sure the design wasn't symmetric (the border along the bottom is bigger than the border along the top), or perfectly rectangular.

Apple would be using it if it was really better. The problem has been that the tech has a relatively short life span because it is organic. Apple needs their phone to last longer than 2 years.

And where exactly would Apple get them? Are you implying that OLED screens last less than two years? That's a revelation to me. I've had Galaxy S phones starting from S1 and not a single one of them had any issues. From Wikipedia: "Lifespan
The biggest technical problem for OLEDs was the limited lifetime of the organic materials.[54] In particular, blue OLEDs historically have had a lifetime of around 14,000 hours to half original brightness (five years at 8 hours a day) when used for flat-panel displays. This is lower than the typical lifetime of LCD, LED or PDP technology—each currently rated for about 25,000–40,000 hours to half brightness, depending on manufacturer and model.[55][56] However, some manufacturers' displays aim to increase the lifespan of OLED displays, pushing their expected life past that of LCD displays by improving light outcoupling, thus achieving the same brightness at a lower drive current.[57][58] In 2007, experimental OLEDs were created which can sustain 400 cd/m2 of luminance for over 198,000 hours for green OLEDs and 62,000 hours for blue OLEDs.[59]
"

And SGS4 uses new type of OLED technology called PHOLED which is much more efficient.

THIS!

I've been in the iOS ecosystem for years, and would consider changing if someone pulled this off. I saw this article ages ago and have always hoped it would come to life one day... The two devices I always carry around are an e-reader and my iPhone, and whoever can eliminate that e-reader will make me a very happy customer. Likewise, I'd ditch my Kindle for an iPad in a second if they gave iPads that functionality.

Anyone want to comment how cheesy the broadway-like tap dancing presentation was? In fact, I didn't even finish more than 10 minutes into it on the live blog - i just took off to get some food, came back and started reading up on the device.

I'm not going to say the phone is pathetic - not by a long shot - but I don't think I'm going to jump ship back again anytime soon - I am waiting for iOS 7 and if that still smells like steve's left over digested hummus, I will then seek other options when my contract is up.

Right now, all I see are gimmicky features and the only interesting design feature is the 440+ ppi. The 5" screen is quite nice and it's not much larger than an iPhone 5!

And SGS4 will best iPhone in that too with its Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot.

You will have to wait a few years till we get the wide spread enough to use it. By that time the iPhone will adopt it.

Samsung have already "invented"(?!) a theme park where you can be taken for a ride as many times as you can handle in exchange for your hard earned ££; it's called "Touchwiz", or, if you prefer:

"Neon crayon explosion in an ice cream factory, sandwiched inside a flattened rectangular bucket".

Nope, it doesn't roll off the tongue, but then, nor do Google's codenames, and they seem to be selling ok.

The analogy is bogus. Samsung is not the only company that manufactures all the components that you mentioned. Except for OLED screens. Manufacturing capacity for OLED is still very limited.

I love the dual camera and the IR blaster...I think they are both great additions.

Air Gestures

Finally! Samsung is going to release us all from the drudgery of touching the screen. We can at long last let our weary fingers rest and no longer have to travel that enormous distance to the front of the phone.

and I'm happy to have Sumsung parts in my MBPr - I don't have to look at them... apart from the screen that is *cough cough*
