HTC taking the gloves off:

http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/15/htc-cmo-ben-ho-galaxy-s-4/#comments

"With a continuation of a plastic body, and a larger screen being the most obvious physical change, Samsung's new Galaxy pales in comparison to the all-aluminum unibody HTC One.

"This is more of the same. HTC remains the best option for those people looking for the best technology wrapped in premium design. Our customers want something different from the mainstream, who appear to be the target for the Galaxy.

"Our customers want original cutting-edge technology, mouth-watering design and a premium feel from their mobiles, which is why we created the HTC One."

Impressive specs, too bad it's 5" and looks ugly.
Nevertheless I think Apple should make a 4.5" phone or bigger for those who only buy a phone with a large screen. I wonder what they are waiting for.

If the unthinkable happened and Apple stopped making phones I'd go HTC. Can't stand Samsung and what they are about.

There's nowhere really left to go with phones.

The revolution is over.

We're at the "supply chain management" stage of the game until they are superseded by an entirely different form factor.

Precisely. This stuff is now polishing the turd, which is what happens as a revolutionary idea goes into common use and lack of ability to dramatically improve beyond what it is. There is usually a 10-year span between the initial release of a new, revolutionary product and the point where it is pretty much settled into what it can be sans minor tweaks that arrive with other technological improvements being imported (metals, processors, etc).

The iPhone (or smart phone) is about as good as it will get, aside from voice control and a few minor tweaks which will probably appear in the next 4 years of this product's 10-year span.

Completely agree. It is all about polishing a finished product now. The s4 has so many features that will be harder to use than actually practical. The video of Air gestures in a browser looks slow, outdated, and a step backwards IMO.

Sometimes an emoticon is worth a thousand words, so here goes...

Indeed it does

I think its a safe bet that Apple won't be getting any where close to this with their next release, or probably in years to come.

Apple spends too much time releasing slightly upgraded models, milking the cash cow of sheep like consumers.

Apple is hanging on to the smartphone market by a thread, a name, and an IOS. Sorry, but the hardware on this is WAY better than the iPhone 5. Apple is "stuck on thin" and its beyond annoying. They are destroying their mac lines slowly and I suspect the next iPhone will look very similar to the last iPhone. Seriously, who will buy an iPhone 5s that looks like an iPhone 5? If not for IOS, I would be on the galaxy.

Me,IF there is anything worth upgrading for.Sorry I don't have to have a new*LOOK*every 12 months just so I can wave it around and say "Hey everybody!I got the NEW one!See?It looks different from last year's phone!I'm sooo special!"As for hardware,I agree the thin obsession is getting to the point they may need counseling. As for the hardware,it fits my needs well, but then I'm not of the short attention span generation nor a spec freak. But you may be right that they should do something fresh due to the realities of the market,I don't know.

Destroying their Mac lines?LOL!
If that's what they are up to by the time they have finished they will have 100% of the computer market!

Remember those words when apple comes out with a bigger screen phone.

I disagree with the commenter about screen sizes but i agree with him about the unnecessary high density of pixels.

I am quite happy with the screen size of my iPhone 5 but many aren't. Peoples hands are different and so are their preferences.

I think there are two sides of the story when saying the iPhone is lacking new features. Apple surely is not really innovating the device since the original iPhone has been released. On the other hand, most of the Samsung innovations (air view, air gesture) are only for publicity and not of any real use.

How often does your HD fail?

Are you mental? Hard drives fail even if it's not something that happens on a regular basis to many people but it DOES HAPPEN, how often is irrelevant to the point.

I had an IBM Deskstar years ago that started making ticking noises one day and then it wouldn't mount. It happens, the same way you could get a bad RAM module or any other component fail. It's got nothing to do with OS, nothing to do with the brand, it's basic common sense to backup just in case no matter what you're using because when a HD fails, you have nothing but your backups to fall back on and little chance of recovering the data unless the drive still mounts and just developed bad sectors.

If the vendor of your system of choice has good customer service, having the component replaced is a smooth process, it not, you're stuck. I would have thought that was obvious.

Now that Apple is doing a spec bump, Samsung is copying that too. Once Apple does a enhancement in iphone 6, Samsung will get something new to copy ;)

Overall beastly features and power, but same ugly design as S3.

441 ppi?? Is that really necessary? I wonder if average human eyes can distinguish the difference between that and a 300 ppi.

who cares about specs. And I really don't want to have a phone like this in my front pocket, is it just me? I don't understand the need for bigger screens at all. And I haven't met any other phone or tablet yet with a touch technology as snappy as apples. OK we're all used to that now but its still one of the biggest selling points for me.

Meh. Saw the unpacked video. Horrible. S4...lackluster.

It's said copying is the best form of flattery. But you got to do it right.

S 4 failed on stage. Just a spec bump, which is not fully used.

Some of the replies in this thread are just what I expected. Apple is falling behind the competition, not just Samsung.

They are becoming like the US auto manufacturers in the 70's and 80's, they got fat and lazy and the Japanese came in and kicked their butts.

Apple is so smarmy and arrogant (Phil Schiller) and has such a brainwashed fan base they think they can just sit back.

The tides are turning...the company you devoted yourselves too doesn't care about what some of you want...

convenient toggles...nope

open up notification bar to other apps...nope

just the simple ability to make a different browser the default...nope

What are they copying?? The iPhone is a toy compared to the S4.

Notification bar?? Where did Apple get that from? They couldn't even make that worth while. It's gimped.

Yes, these few things make the iPhone so dated. You totally nailed it there.

The phone and the presentation. Failed on both counts.
