- Nearly Edge-to-edge display, across the width, with black (or white) "chin" above and below the screen.
- Flat front face with rounded corners and a single button below the screen
- Metal wrap-around edge band

Haha, you are joking right?

Um factually the Galaxy line itself last year was way beat in terms of units sold by Same-sungs own devices DESPITE fire sale two for specials - seasonal discounting etc etc etc.. And that's after their Next Big Thing Campaign -- um reality check...

What? Please speak in coherent English.

So? He was referring to pixel density and nothing more. A pentile can still be 'retina', even with washed-out colors.

Not really. In order for pentile to be 'retina' it would have to be much greater than 300ppi due to the pixel layout. A pentile at 300ppi still has very visible pixels. I haven't seen one at over 400ppi, but I imagine it would need it be around 600ppi to achieve 'retina' quality.

No he's not.

Well because just because I want a bigger screen, it doesn't mean I want to throw everything else I love about the iPhone away:

Better design
Better build quality
Better OS
Better Apps
etc etc

Those are subjective, for example, I loved the 4/4S design but the 5 looks like a cheap piece of crap and feels like a fisher price toy. The GS3 (and I presume the GS4) have a better design and build quality. The plastic Samsung uses is a better quality build than the anodized aluminum apple does. The smaller bezel and less stretched look on the GS4 makes it the prettier phone too.

I don't see how you can say iOS6 is better than 4.2 JB. The list of major features missing in iOS 6 is staggering and it looks like a relic from last decade (which it is). There's already been lists posted in this thread of how Android is superior, but name one feature iOS has that Android doesn't. You can't say Android is a clone of iOS when iOS adds a subset of Android features years behind. Why can't I even hide garbage like newstand; that's not a missing feature but Apple actively working to make iOS worse (as you can see by their banning of apps that let you hide it).

Which Apps do you say are better on iOS? Go ahead, name a few major non-obscure apps that don't exist on Android? That you actually want to use. You may have had a point when the iPhone 4 / GS came out in 2010, but that was 3 years ago, and you need to open your eyes and look around.

You have so much hand-waving, it's amazing your hands haven't fallen off. So specifically what features of iOS6 are better than Android 4.2? Specifically what Apps aren't available for Android. Let's nail this down so it doesn't sound like a bag of hot air.

I was embarrassing to watch. Like a bad middle school play.

Then how would you characterize Steve Jobs performances? Kindergarten play? He started this cheesy trend. Samsung has just perfected it. In fact they made it a little entertaining (for non geeks).

And as gimmick as everything in the Galaxy 4 is... Siri is, too, extremely gimmick.

True. Let me just add that Google's Voice thingy is MUCH faster and gives more accurate results in cases than Siri while Siri gets stuff wrong. Siri is about as much a failure as Maps was. It's so bad, I don't even use Siri anymore -- it was just a gimmick.

For example, when creating reminders, lists or certain alarms (such as remind me everyday to...) -- something that I thought Apple would have anticipated from the get-go -- it just can't set certain things right at all.

Both iPhones and Android phones are not revolutionary. Maybe because there is nothing left to revolutionize with a phone. Or maybe because there is no one willing to go the extra mile instead of playing it safe. But it's hard to criticize Android without throwing a very similar complaint against Apple...

There are still plenty. But Apple should get its head out of its ass and start thinking ahead ... again ... with HOW consumers use their stuff rather than what GEEKS want.

Here are just a few things that can make the iPhone better (hopefully Samsung ain't taking note):

• Forums Manager -- something like Tapatalk, but that will work WITHOUT extension support etc from the sites. One good feature would be the ability to FLAG posts so that you can say, read through a few pages and flag the stuff you want to reply to... rather than reply to one post, find your way back to where you left off, read, reply to another... repeat...

I use forums a LOT. So do other people. When will the smartphone industry catch up?? It's all about making content EASIER to consume. Geez.

• Better Mail support -- Make smart folders really smart by creating and syncing folders between the mail app and the server. We have this already -- but what we dont have are local RULES that will automatically sort the mail for you so they go into the right folders! Desktop mail has this -- but again, creating the rules ain't for the average consumer. They CAN make it brain-dead easy. Apple has 'smart mailboxes' but they don't create a real folder on the server -- they're just customised search queries, not real mailboxes.

• Energy savings mode -- When your battery drops to a certain percentage, you can have it automatically change certain settings, so you don't have to manually (and all the time)!! If macs have these particular power savings (which people hardly ever use anyways!!) -- why not iPhones?? I REALLY think iPhones need this feature more! How many times have we all had to go into the settings to turn EVERYTHING off when we're in a pinch?? It's a human reaction... so where's Apple's?

• Merge REMINDERS with Calendar -- 'nuff said. Why not?

• Easier setting of points in Maps. Currently it's hard to set an EXACT position for your home if it's not in Apple's database. Instead it'll use the nearest point it has. This can be extremely inaccurate -- made worse in countries that don't use ENGLISH. Why can't it use more PRECISE GPS coordinates? How hard can it be? Assigning maps bookmarks to contacts is particularly messed up.

• Pressure sensitive pen on iPad. Samsung is already there, but it's crap. Their 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity (via Wacom technology) doesn't match my actual Wacom tablet's 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity. Now when will Apple catch up?

... and much much more~!

I agree and was kinda my point. When I see Apples it just seems a little dull to me and not exciting listening to them talk. But Samsung's is entertaining and over the top, which I prefer. Guess its just my personality. Id rather watch a silly Adam Sandler movie then a drama

Are you for real?

Quit deluding yourself.

- 5" display, 1080p display in a package SMALLER than the original S3.
- World's first handset with an Octa-core CPU.
- Better camera, with features never seen in a phone.
- World's first handset with LTE Roaming.

Explain to me how this is an S progression?
Some of the camera features were available in apps on the iPhone before, like Couplett released over a year ago. And it works on 3 generations of iPhones, and the last 2 generations of every iOS device. Samsung may need the Octa-core just to keep the poor programming running smoothly. There is a reason they didn't allow the reviewers to run benchmark apps on it.
Other than a slightly larger screen the phone looks identical to the S3 and Apple's White 3Gs for that matter, or maybe an iPod touch.
Here are a few of the updates for the 4S:

Airplay Mirroring
7x faster graphics from a 2x faster CPU
Increased battery life to 8 hours talk time on 3G, 10 hours of video and 9 hours’
‘World Phone' and downloads are 2x faster thanks to its intelligent antenna that switches between signals
200 iOS features including a new slide-down iPhone notifications bar, deep Twitter integration, additional camera features, FaceTime over 3G, WiFi sync and a completely PC-free operation.
Siri voice assistant

So yes, I would call the S4 a S progression.

I was a big Apple fanboy from 2008-2012. 2013 I found myself building a high end PC because apple refuses to update the mac pro. Luckily for Apple I am considering this for home theater and gaming for now. But that might change. Once I start using it for studio audio and video then it's goodbye apple.

Also, still using the 4S. I will not buy another iphone unless the screen is wider. This galaxy phone is an option for me. I'm ready to leave the "ecosystem".

27.4 million during Q4 2012.

First result on Google. First. Please don't embarrass yourself.

I'm not embarrassed. You probably should have read the link, those are estimates by analysts.

“Apple’s iPhone 5 smartphone model shipped an estimated 27.4 million units worldwide during the fourth quarter of 2012,” Strategy Analytics analyst Neil Shah said. “The iPhone 5 captured an impressive 13 percent share of all smartphones shipped globally and it has become the world’s best-selling smartphone model for the first time ever.”

The firm estimates that Apple shipped an additional 17.4 million iPhone 4S models in the fourth quarter, representing 8% of total global smartphone shipments.

Do you feel embarrassed?

I had one of the first iPhones, and it was a thing of wonder. I got the iPhone 4, and the screen amazed me.

And then... nada.

Apple has done little except bore me for years now.

yeah that whole ipad thing, completely boring. sorry but the ipad changed the industry. and we're really digging the perfect size & weight of the ipad mini.

and have you used a rMBP? there is no finer laptop. it's a thing of wonder. but totally boring, right.

----------

The S III is a fraction of iPhone 5 sales? How do you know? (Well, it's clear to anyone that it's not a fraction...)

Please, can anyone tell me how many of the iPhone 5 model that Apple has sold? Apple hasn't released any actual sales numbers since we were told that 5 million was sold in the first three days.

Remember all those reports about Apple cutting orders for iPhone 5 screens a while ago? You know what Apple didn't release to refute those reports? Sales numbers.

yet analysts, often cited for Samsung since Samsung NEVER releases actual sales numbers, peg it at a very high number....making them the leader. if you trust analyst numbers for them, you gotta trust it for apple. read it and weep:

Too small as smartphone and I would like to avoid using 2 items.

I suppose I will wait for note 3 but it is still 6 months from now :/

I think you are probably mistaking the Padfone for the Fonepad. Different devices.

Easy to do :)

how so? i dont recall apple using lame actors to do stupid kitchy sketches. no, it's always been steve, phil, and others on stage talking about what they built. simple. classy.

Sure dude. Then when Apple releases one you'll be all like "Wow guys, I like all this space on my screen guys!"

:apple:

Then instead of "pop-up-play", they leapfrog Samsung with iClusterf%*K where there are OSX-like windows all over the place. :apple:

PS - the above rant comes after watching Engadget's hands on review, then reading it, then reading the comments then reading the comments on other S4 articles and finally this post at Macrumors. If the S4 didn't upgrade every single component of the S3 and manage to put it in a smaller form factor AND have industry leading specs in many areas (highest res screen, most storage available, highest ram, etc) then I would start believing all the trashing of it. But since it does, it makes me think we are dealing with rabid fanboyism and extreme hyperbole.

The S4 has the highest res screen? Really guy? What about the HTC One?
The S4 has the highest ram also? Really guy? What about the HTC One?
Your Damsung colors are showing.

I wanted to get excited while watching this last night, but I couldn't see anything past all the terrible acting.....which left me feeling really empty about the GS IV. The stage show was put on for nothing more than to give the phone something that it doesn't have....Substance. At this point in my life, I don't have any use for gimmicky. I need something that just does what I need it to. I will keep and be happy with my iPhone 5 which has never left me wanting.
